Chapter 42: Chapter 36: “only wizards, fool”
(A particularly long chapter (7400), I hope it was worth the delay)
-OOO year 85-
Several months have passed since the incident in which Moe and Blanche were attacked by missiles, since Moe's arrival and his presentation to the human leaders
All the islands entered a frenzy of technological development under the guidance of Moe who was in charge of teaching the main scientists of humanity
Although the first advance they made unanimously was to develop technologies that would help them solve the scarcity of resources
While everyone was busy in the technological frenzy Blanche was in charge of writing into the schools' database everything he memorized in Moe's library, that only took a few months of time
He left everything necessary to ensure that they almost reach Moe's level, maybe more if someone talented is born among the new generations.
Finally Blanche felt that he did everything he could to help humanity, that it was time to move on after ensuring the survival of his loved ones
So today he prepared to set sail while a reluctant Tomas was in charge of preparing the ship while he relaxed in his house for the last time before leaving
All he needed to take was his clothes, his weapons and the enchiridion, the house would remain practically the same once he left and would be passed down from generation to generation to Chemy's family to do with as they wish
-Blanche pov-
"Yes thanks Tomas, I'll see you at the dock in a bit, I just need to take care of a couple of things before we set sail, yeah yeah see you."
After confirming that everything was ready at the dock I ended the call and left my handbag at the entrance of the house, I just had to pack my clothes and the enchiridion that had been locked in the basement for years.
I couldn't help but sigh as I looked around, today everything I built with Tom, Marcy and Chemy would be left behind me taking only memories of this warm home with me
But my thoughts were interrupted by a yawn and the sound of wheels scraping the wooden floor upstairs.
Looking up I met Marcy's sleepy eyes, it's been months since I woke her up but she still had a constant feeling of tiredness, I theorized it could be due to depression but she doesn't want to talk about it
I still remember the day I woke her up, opened the sarcophagus and found her dreaming with tears in her eyes, murmuring her mother's name, Simon's and Chemy's.
When she regained consciousness she tried to pretend that nothing was wrong and whenever I tried to talk to her about the subject she cuts off the conversation or diverts it
It seems that she still needs more time to recover from the emotional blow, it seems that the loss also unearthed old unpleasant memories
Even when I told her about my adventures in OOO she still remained equally disconnected, I expected her to get irritated even a little for not sharing the adventure but her reaction was flat
Seeing her so dull made me consider simply freezing her and forcing her to talk, but my trust in her after more than 70 years together stopped me, I trusted that she would improve on her own and the moment she wants to talk to me, I will be there
"[yawn] hey Blanchie, hold this for me"
My memories were interrupted by a suitcase flying at high speed towards my face, it seems that I was wrong, I did irritate her a little in the end.
Luckily I have something very useful called telekinesis
"I'm glad to see you're in a good mood, are you sure you have everything you need?"
"Super safe and you?"
"You know I always liked to travel light"
Marceline finally floated to the entrance and together we looked at the place one last time in silence
"I'm really going to miss... everything, Blanchie"
"...…me too"
-founders' dock-
Marcy and I were in front of the boat surrounded by several old people and Tomas accompanied by the oldest guardians of the islands, everyone had come to say goodbye.
The first to step forward was Tomas
"I just want to tell you that without you our species might not exist anymore and for that we will be eternally grateful, you will always have a home among humans when you want to come back"
"Take care of your health little robot"
"If I were you I would retire child"
We warned Tomas with a smile and hugged him like when he was a little boy, the old man was trying to maintain his dignity by holding back his tears
Then one by one the old men of the first generation who needed the help of the guardians to move said goodbye one by one in tears
Finally the guardians greeted us with a nod in sync as a sign of respect
So with a last goodbye we entered the ship and set sail towards OOO in search of a new home
-35 years later-
-OOO year 120-
Inside a canyon were ruins that seemed to be millions of years old, half-destroyed solid stone buildings adorned the surroundings.
They looked like the ruins of an ancient city that was abandoned and then destroyed by the passage of time.
The stillness of these dusty, lifeless ruins was interrupted by a portal that appeared out of nowhere in the air, the portal flickered and seemed so unstable that it would disappear at any moment
But before this unstable portal could close, 4 hooded figures came out and crashed to the ground, letting out a grunt of pain and filling their robes with dust.
When the 4 were able to recover from the blow and hurriedly stood up, they could only watch with disappointment as the portal disappeared into the air.
-abandoned cabin near the apple forest-
"Did you feel that?"
"Yeah I think you farted, maybe you should cut back on the animal blood Blanchie"
Marceline Abadeer and Blanche Petrikov were in an abandoned cabin they found, huddled together watching an old pre-war movie.
After leaving the human island they decided to slowly explore the mainland as they didn't really have a goal in mind when they left
After spending some time with Moe they just wandered on foot from place to place visiting beautiful landscapes and killing mutants that were still active
They decided to take their time with each step they took and left little marks everywhere with their initials just for fun
Several months ago they decided to take a break from wandering so upon finding a large apple grove and an abandoned cabin they decided to settle down temporarily.
They woke up, had breakfast, played, talked, fought a little to keep from rusting, Blanche went out to collect animal blood and apples in the forest and they slept
That's how the days went by, today luckily Blanche found some old movies while he went hunting so they decided to have a nice afternoon at the movies
Also, Marceline's mood improved completely several years ago, but she still had a hard time talking about Chemy.
But in general, they were both enjoying the solitude they shared
-Blanche pov-
"Some days I wonder why I keep you alive."
"Because you love me."
"[sigh] you're lucky that's true"
"So, what did you notice if it wasn't a gas?"
I almost forgot, that feeling of plenitude in my soul that I felt for a second, I felt complete but for some reason the feeling faded as quickly as it came
Something started to prevent the magic from spreading across the planet, I could feel it starting to expand with my spiritual sense but something started to absorb it uncontrollably towards a place not far from here
"Do you remember that lesson I gave you about magical energy?"
"Nope"
"[sigh] Why did I bother, something diverted the magic that was expanding towards a place not far away"
"So...good luck, I'll stay watching movies"
"Really?"
"Shhhh this is the best part".
So I ventured alone towards this mystery.
I guided myself using my spiritual sense towards what seemed like a black hole that absorbed all the magic around it was a huge beacon impossible to ignore.
Flying at low altitude I entered a canyon and stopped in front of a large stone wall with a circular entrance and behind it I could see some ruined stone buildings.
I recognized this place almost instantly, wizard city, the tomb of Cocontepi, my curiosity about what the city founded millions of years ago looked like prompted me to cross the entrance but my spiritual sense made me notice something.
There were 4 presences hiding with sticks in their hands waiting behind the entrance, I guess they were planning to ambush me when I passed through the door, the strange thing is that I couldn't feel hostility or malice
Rather a mix of fear and nervousness, plus their bodies contained magic residues but every time they tried to channel it, perhaps in an attempt to attack me with spells, everything went into the black hole that continued to absorb the magic in the environment
Now I'm sure what the problem was, something that could absorb magic and that was in wizard city, it wasn't hard to guess.
The heart of Cocontepi
I only had to find out the identity of these 4 unknown magicians
-behind the entrance-
The 4 hooded men spoke to each other in whispers
"remember the plan, when we pass through the door we attack at the same time, I will lead the charge, just follow me"
"and who made you our leader stupid lion, obviously it is better to hide in the ruins and watch him"
"don't talk so loud, especially you slippery snake, I would suggest placing traps but they would be of no use, if he gets here it means he can sense magic, he is a magician"
"always so eloquent pretentious bird and don't tell me slippery, if he can sense us then why hasn't he attacked"
"Guys, why don't we try to talk to him?" Maybe he's not our enemy"
"I say we listen to the little badger boys, that handsome stranger looks friendly"
A fifth voice interrupted the discussion between the 4 hooded men and left them paralyzed, they could swear there wasn't a fifth member in the group
The 4 of them simultaneously turned towards the fifth person, a white-haired young man, dressed elegantly, his eyes although covered by round blue glasses shone slightly as he examined them closely
"Nice to meet you, my name is Blanche, Blanche Petrikov"
-Blanche pov-
I must confess that I never expected to meet 4 talking humanoid animals, it was a real surprise for a few seconds until I remembered what kind of world I'm in
A lion, a snake, a crow and a badger, what a strange combination, I didn't know how to get their attention so I just joined in the conversation
"I say we listen to the little badger boys, that handsome stranger looks friendly"
That froze them in place, Should I have been less abrupt? Maybe if I introduce myself they won't be hostile
"Nice to meet you, my name is Blanche, Blanche Petrikov"
The 4 hooded animals still confused by my sudden appearance behind them were awakened by my brief introduction
The first to react was the lion who stood in front of his companions without hesitation with his branch ready to attack
"Listen to me, I'm going to hold him back as long as I can while you run away!"
Next was the snake who seemed offended
"I'll stay stupid lion, we both know I'm stronger"
Then the little badger who seemed scared but advanced with a firm step
"My friends, we'll attack the 3 of us while Rav thinks of a solution"
The crow who was apparently called Rav stood up next to his companions
"If you think I'll leave my destiny in the hands of 3 empty heads, you're wrong"
Although their relationship didn't seem very harmonious based on their words, their actions showed their true feelings better
If this were a story where the power of friendship was something real I would be shaking in my shoes, it's a shame
-5 minutes later-
4 pretty ice statues were looking at me aggressively at this moment
Maybe I went a little too far, well, after a little chat they'll surely forgive me.
I accurately thawed the ice that enclosed their heads while the rest of the ice kept them immobilized
At first they seemed disoriented but when they noticed the ice they quickly understood the situation, obviously they were not happy
"I demand that you free me, you strange hairless creature!"
"My fangs will end up in your albino neck!" (ironic)
"What do you want? Since we are not dead there is room for negotiation"
"Please do not hurt us! We can all work together"
I quickly knew who I needed to talk to, so I silenced the lion and the snake with ice
The raven and the badger looked at me nervously but remained silent
I created a small ice chair in front of them and sat comfortably
"I think we started off on the wrong foot, I'll introduce myself again, I'm Blanche Petrikov, resident of OOO and I'm a simple traveler, now it's your turn"
"My name is Rav, the wise wizard of the raven clan, resident of dimension 32B".
"My name is Huf, wizard cook of the badger clan, resident of dimension 32B"
"Nice to meet you, now, let's play a game, one question for one question, do you know how to play?"
"Who do you think you're talking to? I obviously know how it works"
"I'm talking to Rav, okay, now it's my turn to ask"
"Damn hairless creature, that doesn't count!"
Let's ignore that
"How did you get here?"
"Through a portal, sir, while we were researching ancient writings of our ancestors from the time they came to the dimensions where we were all born."
"That damn portal! We couldn't react as it has been inactive since the time of our ancestors."
The raven lost his eloquent tone when talking about the incident, it seems he didn't like losing control of his surroundings and curiously the badger Huf who seemed the least wise or strong among the 4 kept his calm quite well.
I was able to come to some conclusions from this information, the founding wizards of Wizard City traveled to other dimensions and most likely got trapped when magic left the planet
One of the portals they used to travel here must have been activated the moment magic returned to earth swallowing these 4
Also with Cocontepi's heart absorbing all the magic nearby, they lost the ability to cast spells and the portal closed
"very well, now it's your turn to ask a question, both of you agree on what to ask"
The two looked into each other's eyes for a few seconds in silence, they seemed to be communicating with their gaze, after a few seconds they both turned to me and spoke simultaneously
"why did you dye your hair white?"
"-_-".
"its.not.dyed, understood?
They both looked at me suspiciously
"[sigh] I feel like this is going to be a recurring thing"
"okay, my turn, what are the names of your two friends, the popsicles
"oh right, I almost forgot about them"
"their names are Gry warrior mage from the lion clan and Sly scientist mage from the snake clan, it seems that they don't get along very well with each other because their personalities clash, but deep down they are good friends"
"okay it seems that I have all the information I needed, now I'm going to free them so we can all talk together in peace, remind your friends".
I quickly unfroze Gry and Sly's heads so I could finish this conversation and I really needed to start looking for a way to solve the problem that is Cocontepi
"Damn you cowardly animal! Stop freezing me and fight like a real lion!"
"if you freeze me again I swear I will poison you while you sleep!"
I held my hand back so as not to freeze their heads directly as I watched as the badger and the raven quickly covered the mouths of their companions
After a few minutes of whispering they managed to convince them that I was not an enemy and although reluctantly, they finally introduced themselves when I completely unfroze them
"Greetings bald animal, my name is Gry great warrior magician of the lion clan, protector of the weak, storm of the lion legions, the best magician of all-"
"Silence presumptuous lion! Pure lies, I the great Sly scientific magician of the snake clan am the most powerful among all, the creator of miracles and great teacher of the academy-"
"-_-"
Both wanted to continue arguing but when they noticed small ice crystals slowly rising through their legs they quickly fell silent
""It is a pleasure indeed""
Surprisingly synchronized in surrendering
-a while later-
After the appropriate conversations I came to know that these 4 magicians had no idea why they lost their magic, it seems that their ancestors kept Cocontepi a secret, it was a good decision
I knew exactly where the heart was, but until we solved the problem of where these 4 characters were going to live I couldn't set out to explore
So we decided to rebuild the central part of the city together so they could live until they found a way to return home and regain their magic
Obviously I didn't tell them anything about Cocontepi, it's too dangerous for them to even come near without their magic, I prefer to keep them in the dark for their own good.
-dusk-
We all sat on logs together around a campfire, several tents that I went to get from the cabin were already set up nearby, they would have to serve until we rebuild some houses
Also, it turns out that they hadn't eaten anything since they arrived on the planet, none of them knew how to hunt despite having animal features, what a surprise
But considering that they were wizards it made sense, why learn to hunt if they could use spells
So a quick trip to the forest and I came back with a two-headed deer, I could see their expectant and hungry faces turn into absolute horror when they saw what I had hunted.
"My God! It looks like Steve!"
"I think I'm going to throw up!
"Why are his limbs so weird!?"
Needless to say, I had to give them a long explanation about how the animals on the planet weren't like them, but they still refused to eat something that looked like their species, completely understandable
So it was a night of sautéed vegetables on the campfire, if I described the situation to someone else it would sound ridiculous, a vampire with ice powers next to 4 humanoid animals, magicians and vegetarians
When everyone finished eating voraciously the crow was the first to notice a certain detail that everyone ignored and that I hoped to be able to hide.
"Why haven't you eaten a single bite, traveler?"
"I'm not hungry"
"You should eat more traveler, you're skinny"
"I think you should let him starve"
"Have some of mine, I wouldn't mind, we're like partners now"
Huf came over with some vegetables and pushed the plate towards my face with his little paws, I looked into his honest and kind eyes
I couldn't lie to the little one
So after another wave of horror at knowing that I fed on animal blood and another long explanation of what a vampire was, everyone calmed down
They didn't seem surprised by immortality, it seems that living a long time is something common among wizards
"This world really is fascinating, I wish my students were here to study it with me"
"All those weak crows wouldn't stand a chance against the lion clan warrior apprentices, they'd love to look for strong opponents around here"
"Tch, my brothers could help me create a chemical-based portal if they were here"
"I wonder if all the children of the clan will be eating well"
Everyone looked at the fire remembering their loved ones
"and you traveler, why don't you tell us your story? Were you born a vampire? Who taught you magic?"
Surprisingly Sly was the first to break the silence, I don't know if he wanted to gather information or was just genuinely curious
"Me? I was born 126 years ago in a civilization that was already destroyed, they destroyed each other, my powers or magic manifested when I was a baby, I theorized that an artifact gave me some of its magic but I never really knew the specific reason"
"I became a vampire after exterminating almost all of them, now me and my partner are the last of that species, although she is also part demon, it is a curious story"
-several months later-
"and that is how with a single spell I saved that damsel in distress! After that she thanked me generously with a huge banquet!"
"That doesn't compare to that time I found a cure for the plague that was ravaging the frog village using only mushrooms with two broken legs!"
"Oh yeah? Well I killed a dragon with two broken legs and two broken arms!"
"None of you two airheads can compare to my impressive achievement of translating over a thousand books written in a language forgotten by the gods!"
"Well I cooked a dragon, after curing it of a plague using a recipe I translated from a 10,000 year old book!"
It's been several months since my new friends from another dimension arrived at the ancient ruins of Wizard City, at first they still felt a little uncomfortable and nervous due to their lack of magic
But if there's one thing that prevailed it was their pride and self-esteem, I could have helped them rebuild everything in a few days but they wouldn't let me
They only let me bring them the materials and with their own hands they slowly rebuilt the city center. I wonder if that pride is characteristic of all the wizards in that dimension or if those 4 are special. As the days went by I developed a friendship with the peculiar group, although I get along better with some of them, Sly still looks at me suspiciously and Rav looks at me as if he wanted to dissect me sometimes
Gry is perhaps the friendliest among the 4, once you get past that booming voice and his brazen attitude he is a good friend who always tries to lend a hand, although his characteristic bravery or rather recklessness has led me to get him out of fights with huge mutant animals more times than I would like
As for Huf, that adorable little guy reminds me of BMO sometimes, he is the most supportive among the 4, a great enthusiast for plants and gastronomy, although due to his diet being so different I could not learn recipes from him
So time passed until they managed to rebuild everything they wanted, that is why we were celebrating sitting around the same campfire that we lit the day we met
Also, due to my curiosity, I brought them some alcoholic drinks from more than 120 years ago that I found around there to see how they reacted, it turns out that when wizards get drunk they tend to brag and exaggerate their feats.
So here I sit laughing listening to 4 drunk wizards yelling at each other to see who had the greatest feat
But every good moment has to end to make way for another, that's what I thought when it slowly started to get dark marking my time to leave for my home
I said goodbye to the 4 who obviously ignored me and continued arguing, surely when the hangover hits they will remember me, it would be interesting to see it
I flew away slowly while enjoying the breezes and the noises of conversation disappeared in the distance, I couldn't help but let out a sigh
Now that they had finished building, it was time to take care of the heart of Cocontepi, a problem that I honestly didn't feel like facing
Cocontepi, a monster that existed before time itself, just that concept sounds terrifying, the worst thing is that I don't know how to get rid of it or rather, it can't be done.
These monsters from before time are like pure energy and like energy, they cannot be destroyed, only transformed, these entities existed before the very concept of life or death
My best chance would be to seal it or get it off the planet.
-wizard city-
After a wild night, the bonfire was surrounded by empty bottles and a small otter slept under all the bottles, the snoring of a lion sleeping on its back on a tree echoed in the ruins
A crow slept peacefully in its bed covered up to its head and a snake was passed out against the huge entrance gate of the city, with its hands stained with red paint and the huge words "ONLY WIZARDS, FOOLS" painted on the wall
The first to wake up was Sly who slowly opened his eyes only to close them instantly in annoyance
"I will never drink again in my life"
Sly looked in confusion at his paint-stained hands and at the words he wrote in that strange state of confusion that the traveling wizard called "drunkenness"
"come" (whisper)
"who?"
Sly was startled by a spectral whisper that seemed to come from a small cave that strangely neither he nor his companions had ever noticed
Sly approached cautiously, perhaps the answer to the mysterious disappearance of his magic was in that cave, perhaps he could finally return to his family
"come" (whisper)
There it was again, this time much clearer to his ears, each step he took brought him closer to the mysterious voice
After walking a few minutes underground with the voice growing louder and louder Sly entered a damp, dark stone chamber supported by several curved white pillars
The strangest thing was a huge mass of flesh that pulsated and was held up by several thin ligaments of flesh attached to the last white pillars and a huge circular skull with two long holes on each side
Sly slowly approached with his mind flooded with whispers preventing him from noticing the danger of the situation he was in, he approached step by step with his cloudy eyes until he was a few centimeters from the strange mass of flesh.
"Accept me, I can help you get home" (whisper)
"Home? Yes, home, my brothers, my beloved"
Sly slowly stretched out his hand until his fingers were a centimeter from the strange mass of living flesh that pulsed faster and faster
"Medusa, my love, wait for me"
Then his fingers touched the heart
-Blanche pov-
I was awakened by a static sound coming from my radio communicator that was on the table next to my bed, who could be calling at this hour? Only Moe, humans and wizards knew the frequency.
I was brought out of my ramblings by Marcy's sleepy voice, who had her arm over my face
"could you turn that damn thing off, I need to keep my 15 hour beauty sleep"
"yeah yeah I'm coming"
I grabbed the radio and put it to my ear expecting it to be BMO with one of his impromptu greetings but what I heard made me jump out of bed
"zzzz- Banche! We need your help! Zzzzz- it's Sly, we don't know what happened to him! Zzzz"
"Huff? Are you there!?"
I tried to communicate but only got static as a response so I quickly got dressed and grabbed my axe before teleporting to the entrance of wizard city.
Could it be Cocontepi? I don't remember him having the ability to act on his own in the future
I could see smoke rising everywhere covering the city, the only thing I could hear with my enhanced senses was the sound of buildings collapsing in the distance
I covered the city with my spiritual sense to know exactly what was going on within the smoke and dust, the horrible realization hit me as I visualized a huge monster covered in yellow and orange hair with scales sticking out, four arms, a snake head and two pairs of glowing yellow eyes
The monster was destroying everything the 4 wizards had built and stomping on the ancient ruins, leveling the entire terrain
My chest felt tight, I underestimated Cocontepi and he managed to possess Sly, the alcohol I gave them must have given him the chance, I gritted my teeth, my head thinking about how to fix this, how to save Sly.
Although the weight of my mistake distracted me I didn't forget to search with my spiritual sense for the other wizards, I needed to get them to safety, I couldn't fail again.
I found them.
They were hiding in an underground basement beneath Sly's lab that looked relatively complete, it seems that Sly's subconscious was still slightly affecting Cocontepi's actions.
I instantly teleported, startling them, I checked them with my senses to see if they were hurt, luckily they were okay but they looked sad and confused, Sly's transformation must have horrified them
When they noticed me, the first to speak was Huf, who was still holding the radio he used to call me. He quickly approached and spoke anxiously.
"Blanche! I'm glad you got here so quickly. We need your help. We don't know what happened to Sly. Something must have cursed him!"
"But how could something like that happen? Sly was a renowned expert in curses. It's impossible for him to be so stupid as to approach a cursed object."
"I hate to admit it, but the crow is right! That snake was always cunning and competent in black magic. We don't understand the reason for its transformation!"
"I'm sorry to say that I know the reason, so I need you to listen to me"
They looked at me in confusion, but remained silent waiting for me to give them an answer
"I don't have time to explain the whole story, but a monster, before creation, Cocontepi, he is the reason for all this, when he "died" in prehistory, your ancestors founded this city on his corpse"
"I thought he was inactive and I wanted to get rid of him when you were settled, I underestimated him and due to my mistake, Sly was possessed by Cocontepi, so I apologize and you can scold me later, because the most important thing right now is to save our friend, that's why I need you to leave the city, I noticed that part of Sly's consciousness still remains in him, that's why he didn't attack the laboratory, it means that I still have time to save him, it's my responsibility to take care of him"
Their faces went from doubt, confusion, to annoyance, finally to determination and hope when they heard that maybe their friend had Salvation
"Maybe you made a mistake my hairless friend, but nobody is perfect, I'm sorry I can't help you in this battle, I would only get in your way"
Gry put his huge claw on my shoulder and for the first time I heard him speak calmly
"You will have my forgiveness when you save our companion, that's why I wish you luck traveler"
Rav turned his back on me but I still felt that he sincerely hoped I would save his friend
"Please save him Blanche and don't get hurt"
Huf hugged my legs with his little paws wishing me good luck
"Thank you, I promise I won't fail".
-center of wizard city-
Cocontepi was destroying everything in his path at will, trying to crush the ants hiding in the ruins
Once he finished off his host's companions, there would be no one left to warn the others of his arrival, then he could conquer this arid planet before moving on to the next dimension
When he finished leveling all the buildings in his former prison, the only thing left was a building that his body refused to destroy, his host was fighting with all his might to stop him, but every second the resistance decreased more and more. That's where the ants must be hiding. Cocontepi approached step by step, making the earth rumble, and when he was in front of the building, he slowly raised his enormous foot, but stopped when he noticed a huge shadow growing beneath him.
He only had time to look up and see the base of a huge iceberg the size of a building falling towards him, burying him under huge pieces of ice and impacting the ground, shaking the entire terrain and creating a large crater.
Watching the remains of the iceberg in the sky was Blanche. He had his axe in his hand and his eyes covered by his blue glasses hiding his expression. The wind caused by the impact moved his clothes as he observed the remains in search of movement.
He knew that he only shook the deity a little; he needed to subdue him long enough to extract the ichor from Sly's body.
"ROAAAAR!!"
A roar followed by blue waves that came out from the center of the ruins disintegrated all the ice that was pressing down on Cocontepi
Once he stood up straight he stared at his attacker, the traveler with ice magic from his host's memories, Cocontepi couldn't understand why he could still use magic in his presence
"ROAAAAAAAR!!"
Another attack of anti-magic waves covered most of the sky but missed completely as he disappeared into the air appearing behind Cocontepi swinging his axe surrounded by frost towards the monster's back only for the attack to do no damage to it, the frost deflected towards Blanche the moment it touched the huge back and the cut, even with all his superhuman strength he only managed to cut some of the monster's fur
The rebound of the impact left the vampire paralyzed for a second
That was all Cocontepi needed to turn around and deliver a punch that sent him flying towards the laboratory crossing the entire place and finally landing painfully creating a crater in the ground
-Blanche Pov-
As I slowly got up from the crater I tried to remember when was the last time someone hit me that hard, maybe the Vampire King
This damn monster is more resilient than I thought, I knew that magic wouldn't work, to tell the truth I still don't know why I'm able to use my ice in the presence of Cocontepi, but that doesn't mean that I could affect him in the end
Besides I put all my strength into that cut but I only managed to be his barber for free, how am I supposed to defeat this guy, I haven't used that ability yet, maybe that will work
"ROAAAAAR!"
My racing thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a rapidly approaching roar, of course the bastard wasn't going to give me a break
Before I even saw him I felt his anti-magic waves approaching me, if that thing touched me maybe it would disintegrate me directly
I needed the aerial advantage
I teleported to the sky and hid in the clouds before the blue waves reached me, now looking down I saw him searching for me in the crater with a smile on his face, which quickly turned into a frown when he didn't find me
I didn't want to give him time for another attack so I focused on invoking my vampiric ability, after defeating the Vampire King, apart from stealing some of his abilities, I also awakened my own ability like the rest of the court when they transformed.
According to my experiments with it, it allowed me to interact with the souls of other beings, perhaps my reincarnation influenced that, from the little I tested, it allowed me to damage and touch souls, even expel them from their bodies, but only from creatures much weaker than me.
I really didn't see much use for it since I could cut most monsters and I never needed to interact with souls. But hopefully this will help, I firmly took the axe and little by little a mist surrounded the head of the axe creating a longer blade of energy, once ready I simply let myself fall pointing directly at Cocontepi who was still looking for me while growling and stomping the ground in frustration
Every time I got closer and closer plummeting straight towards his ugly face (sorry Sly) when he finally noticed me it was too late for him
I could see his four trusting eyes as my axe got closer and closer to one of his eyes until it hit without causing any damage
I can swear I heard him let out a chuckle before the blade of energy from the axe went through everything and sank deep into his facial cavity. causing a jet of dark blood to stain my clothes and face as he roared in pain and confusion
Cocontepi in panic shook his head so hard that I unexpectedly propelled myself at high speed towards one of the canyon walls embedding myself and my axe in a crater
It's a shame that I didn't bring blood due to the rush since the impact broke one of my arms in several places and I can feel how my body loses more and more energy
I sat inside the crater covered in black blood breathing with difficulty looking at Cocontepi who roared with rage, it seems that he had never been hurt before like that
Taking one of his eyes took away almost half of my soul energy, that means that I can hurt him only one more time if he lets his guard down
But now he knows that I can hurt him, he won't let me get close again, plus I only have one useful arm left, it really is a bad situation
My head was spinning trying to think of a way to win, but nothing seemed to work, I could easily run away but that would leave a free monster that was reborn due to my mistakes causing destruction, I couldn't live with the guilt.
Cocontepi finally stopped roaring and stared at me with rage using his 3 remaining eyes, half of his face covered in his own blood.
I already tried to read his thoughts, nothing useful, he only thinks about causing destruction, his emotions are cravings for destruction and conquest, nothing useful there
Also my ice powers become useless near him, not even the enchiridion rituals would work since there is not even a gram of magic here
My hopes of victory faded with every step that Cocontepi took towards me, it seems that I have to travel through the void again, I don't think I'll be so lucky next time, I know Marcy will be fine, Simon too, I can accept this kind of ending
"zzzz- Blanche, are you there? Zzzz"
A static sound and a familiar voice took me out of my "final" thoughts
I took out the radio that I kept in my pocket
"Is that you Huf? I'm glad you called but I'm trying to have one last monologue here, I would recommend you run away, [sigh] I'm sorry I can't keep my promise"
"zzzz- yes I'm sorry too Blanche, you won't be able to keep your promise, that's true, but you will survive, I know you will, because we are going to win you one last chance zzzz"
"What do you mean?"
I asked urgently but the radio went silent
Cocontepi had already stopped at a safe distance to disintegrate me with his energy waves looking at me with a smile on his face, I could see how he slowly accumulated energy in his mouth full of sharp teeth.
Then I could feel them, 3 presences entered my detection zone flying through the sky directly towards Cocontepi who confused stopped his attack when he saw Rav carrying Gry and Huf on his back
The 3 headed directly towards Cocontepi's face while shouting insults at him.
"Sly you have smaller fangs than average!"
"Everyone knows you're half lizard!"
"Open that mouth you fangless lizard!"
Confused, Cocontepi tried to catch them in his hands but realized that his body couldn't move and even his mouth opened against his will
His host body, out of pure rage, took control by keeping his mouth open to let them enter his heart and thus insult them personally
-Blanche pov-
I watched in horror and confusion as the 3 of them entered directly through Cocontepi's mouth and moments later the huge monster began to convulse and transform
They had reached the heart and had merged with it voluntarily
Cocontepi's body grew in size until it looked like a building, it grew crow wings, lion claws and an otter tail
""BLANCHE! IT'S TIME!""
From the mouth of this new monstrosity came an amalgam of the voices of the 4 magicians, their combined consciousnesses had temporarily taken control
That meant, a cut without restrictions
I got up with difficulty using my good arm and pulled out Leviathan that had been stuck in stone when it hit the wall
"Thanks guys, I'm going to make it count"
I gathered all the energy of my soul into the edge of the axe and shot out with all my strength using a telekinetic push
I flew closer at such speed that my skin was torn in several places due to the tension my body was subjected to
When I arrived in front of Cocontepi's ribcage with all the strength I could muster and the accumulated momentum I swung Leviathan almost splitting Cocontepi's body in half leaving his heart exposed but in the process breaking my only healthy arm left.
So we both finally fell to the ground, me falling next to the heart that now hung freely between the two lower and upper halves of Cocontepi's body
Once the dust settled and neither of us moved again I let out a sigh as I looked up at the sky, I had used everything I had and now I could save-
""Blanche""
The amalgam of voices sounded again, this time it almost seemed like a whisper coming out of Cocontepi's jaws
"don't worry guys, I'm just...catching my breath"
""we're sorry Blanche, but it's too late""
My heart skipped a beat when those words reached my ears
"what do you mean…..I….won, I can.....save you guys, this is no time for….telling jokes"
""Cocontepi is healing now Blanche, you must finish the job or you will die, we can't hold it back for long, please do it""
"you're lying….."
But my only response was one of Cocontepi's arms moving with difficulty and bringing me closer to the heart, by the movement of its other limbs I could notice how little by little Cocontepi regained control, I had no other option left
""Please, free us""
"I'm sorry"
With pain in my heart, I crawled closer to the heart that was beating erratically as if warning me not to come closer.
"your families will know what you did....I'm going to make sure of that"
And I sank my fangs into the heart of a deity
I drank every last drop of nauseating blood until the heart stopped beating and its power transferred to me, although monsters couldn't die, they could transform and change
Now Cocontepi was part of me, its power was mine, I guess it was a victory
"but in the end I failed"

A/N: nice to see you again, comment a lot and wait for the next episode, I'm not good at writing action and stuff like that but I hope it was fun to read, and yes, now the protagonist has more abilities that I will explain in the next episode
