Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Swoosh, swoosh.
Someone pulled on Nahun’s sleeve. When Nahun slightly turned his head, there stood an angel with a wonderfully cute appearance that made him want to pinch her cheeks. The adorable looks were enhanced by the teddy bear she was tightly hugging.
Despite her appearance, few would expect that this was Seere von Debata, one of the 72 Demon Kings.
She tugged at Nahun’s sleeve and called out to him.
“Teacher, Teacher.”
“Yeah, Seere.”
“Cain is acting strange.”
“Hmm… it’s okay. It’s not something to worry about too much.”
The day after the letter arrived, Cain was nearly out of his mind. The previous day, he had read a letter stating that the 71st Demon King, Citri, would be coming, and he was frantic about tidying up the castle.
“But I heard someone is coming.”
“That’s right. It’s still a few days away, and we’ll have classes as usual even on the day the guest arrives.”
“Really?”
Seere’s eyes sparkled with excitement. Seeing her filled with anticipation and curiosity made Nahun smile instinctively.
“Today, we’re going to have a theoretical lesson. In the afternoon, you’ll train on your own, Seere.”
“Okay!”
Nodding her head, Seere responded enthusiastically—an endearing trait of children. Nahun set up a desk and chair for Seere to sit in.
“What we’ll learn today is the basics of magic power manipulation.”
“Okay?”
Seere blinked in confusion and then asked Nahun.
“Aren’t we studying math and demon world history?”
“Those kinds of things are of no use.”
Nahun explained to the tilting head of Seere.
“Of course, I’m not saying those subjects aren’t important. It’s just that in your current situation, they shouldn’t be the priority.”
“But Cain said magic power manipulation should be learned after the other basic subjects.”
“That’s because Cain is foolish.”
Cain, still spaced out, didn’t react to Nahun’s remark. Seere shook her head in disagreement.
“Cain isn’t stupid.”
“I meant his teaching method wasn’t intelligent. Seere, what do you think is most needed for you to protect your followers at such a young age?”
“Power?”
That was a really straightforward and accurate answer. Nahun didn’t argue against it.
“That’s right. Power. Do you need math and demon world history to build your strength now?”
“I guess not.”
“Exactly, so I plan to postpone those two subjects. Instead, I’m going to teach you subjects that will help you build your power.”
He would teach magic power manipulation, magic power utilization, martial arts, and also the essential ‘Royal Studies’ that every ruler must master to strengthen their power. Those would take priority in their lessons.
The other foundational subjects were things Seere had learned before Nahun came, so she wasn’t entirely clueless about them. In fact, the urgent matter was the Royal Studies, which she seemed quite unfamiliar with.
When Nahun mentioned the topics he planned to teach, Seere looked at him with bright, curious eyes.
“Don’t you like it?”
“Ah, no. I’ve already learned Royal Studies.”
“Really?”
Upon hearing that she had learned Royal Studies, Nahun’s eyes widened in surprise. Even if she was young, a Demon King learned Royal Studies… while carrying around a teddy bear?
Nahun felt somewhat confused. In the game, Seere also carried a teddy bear when meeting players, but that was due to a lack of training in the qualities of a ruler. In reality, one of the most important factors determining the branching paths in the game was whether or not one mastered Royal Studies.
“‘You’ve learned it?’”
Nahun was flustered but quickly accepted it more easily than expected. This wasn’t merely a game; it was reality.
“Right, that makes sense.”
Realistically, a previous Demon King wouldn’t have neglected to teach Royal Studies to their sole heir.
It was only natural to assume that Seere had started being taught as soon as she could read. The teddy bear was merely something she carried because she genuinely liked it.
“Then let’s skip the theoretical part of Royal Studies. Instead…”
“Instead?”
“That subject only has meaning when you put it into practice.”
Nahun began adding items to a training journal detailing Seere’s training regimen. Once he had finished writing everything down, he showed the journal to Seere.
“Teacher, what is this?”
“Those are assignments to help you practice Royal Studies.”
Seere looked at what Nahun had written with wide eyes, seemingly astonished. The items listed were so peculiar that even a young child like Seere would find them unusual.
“If you don’t complete your daily exercises, I won’t buy you a toy.”
“Yes, yes…”
“Alright, then shall we start learning the basics of magic power manipulation?”
Nahun approached the outdoor blackboard. Although there was a classroom for Seere’s lessons, Nahun had deliberately chosen to teach in the garden.
“In the game, doing this boosted concentration, increasing attribute bonuses.”
Though this world’s reality might be different from that of the game, an open space might still be easier for focusing than a cramped room.
The basics of magic power manipulation. Normally, someone like Nahun, who had lived in modern society, wouldn’t just be familiar with this but would also actually know nothing about it. But now was different.
He wasn’t reincarnated; he was transmigrated. In other words, he had taken over the body of an existing character. Thus, Nahun knew not only the memories of his former self but all of its knowledge.
“It was a little confusing, but….”
Thanks to organizing his thoughts last night, he could decide what to teach Seere. Nahun picked up chalk and began to write something on the blackboard.
“Do you want to read it, Seere?”
“‘Available Magic Power’ and ‘Retained Magic Power’.”
“Great reading. Well done.”
When Nahun praised Seere, she hugged her teddy bear tightly with a shy smile.
“Hehe.”
Deciding to give praise freely while seeing Seere’s delighted face, Nahun asked her.
“Do you know what both mean?”
“Retained Magic Power refers to the amount of magic power a person possesses, stored in the Mana Heart.”
“Correct. Then what about Available Magic Power?”
“It’s the amount of magic power that a person can use.”
Seeing Seere answer precisely and clearly, Nahun smiled in amazement. She was learning much better than expected. Smiling warmly, Nahun asked Seere.
“By what standard is Available Magic Power determined?”
“Umm…”
Seere tilted her head thoughtfully. Apparently, since she had never learned about magic power manipulation, she didn’t know this part.
“Uh…”
“You can honestly say you don’t know. No one will laugh at you for not knowing.”
After hearing those words, Seere hesitated but then cautiously said to Nahun.
“I don’t know.”
“Alright, then shall we learn from there?”
Nahun wrote another word next to ‘Available Magic Power’ on the blackboard. It was the word ‘Circuit’.
“Circuit. Have you heard of it?”
“Yes.”
“It is a special organ located in the bodies of our demon race, half-demons, and beings like demons and dragons with magical power. What does it do?”
“It allows us to use magic power.”
“Correct. More precisely, it’s the concept of a pathway through which magic power flows. If there are many circuits in your body that allow magic power to flow, what do you think will happen?”
“Then a lot of magic power can flow through.”
“So what will happen? Since there are many paths for magic to move around, naturally, the amount of magic power I can use at once will also increase, right?”
After listening to Nahun’s explanation, Seere had a look of realization on her face. Without even realizing it, she had lifted one arm of her teddy bear.
“Then Available Magic Power is determined by the number of circuits, right?”
“Smart! You grasp things quickly.”
“Hehe…”
There’s a saying that praise is crucial when teaching children, and it wasn’t for nothing. Seeing Seere, who was delighted after being praised, Nahun smiled contentedly. He pointed at the retained magic power he had written on the board with the chalk.
“Retained magic power is determined at birth.”
“Yes.”
“But circuits are different. The more you practice manipulating magic power, the more circuits will develop in your body.”
Nahun put down the chalk. He then opened his palm toward Seere.
“If you have enough retained magic power and create many circuits to increase your available magic power…”
Whoosh!
A tremendous surge of magical power erupted from Nahun’s palm. Even Cain, who was spaced out, flinched in shock at the sheer magnitude of the magic power.
“Then you can use this much magic power at once.”
“Wow~!”
Seere’s blue eyes sparkled brightly. She asked innocently.
“Can I do this too, teacher?”
“Of course! You just need to practice.”
“Wow!”
Seere honestly expressed her joy. It might seem like Nahun was just saying this to match the mood of young Seere, but he truly meant it.
Though she was still young, Seere was a Demon King. There were many reasons why a Demon King could reign over the Demon Race, but the most significant was the overwhelming difference in specs.
The lineage of a Demon King already had a far greater amount of ‘retained magic power’ from birth compared to regular demons. The difference was such that even a thousand ordinary demons would still be beneath the lowest retained magic power of a Demon King.
“That’s why we’re going to train to increase your circuits from now on.”
“How do we do that?”
“It will be easier to realize by doing it yourself, but for now, I’ll explain.”
Nahun pointed to the center of his chest.
“Here, you need to move the magic power that’s in your Mana Heart.”
“How do I do that?”
“Magic power moves according to a person’s heart and will. If you put your mind to it, you’ll be able to move it.”
To make it easier for Seere to understand, Nahun deliberately continued to point at his own body as he explained.
“When you want to move your magic power, the magic power gathered in your chest will spread throughout your body. Then from that point, controlling it will be important.”
Nods.
The way she nodded showed how much attention Seere was paying to Nahun’s words. Nahun gently patted her head and said.
“This training is also written in the training journal, and once you finish today’s training, I’ll treat you to some delicious pudding.”
“…Pudding!”
Before today’s lesson, Nahun had asked Cain about Seere’s favorite foods, likes, and favorite items. While he had already heard that she liked toys, he wondered if there were other things she liked as well.
The findings were quite plentiful. He learned that Seere loved pudding and cake, enjoyed being praised and having her head stroked, and, along with her dolls, liked soft and fluffy things.
Nahun planned to actively utilize these insights. While he hoped Seere would keep up with the lessons…
“I’ve got to earn the Demon King’s favor.”
In Ebel Queen Maker, affection levels were a crucial aspect. If the affection level was too low, there was a possibility that Seere, upon growing up, would fire the player as an ending.
Yet, if the affection level was too moderate, even if Seere became a great success, the player might not achieve a significant success ending.
“The affection level must be MAX.”
If Seere grew successfully, he would be able to live comfortably afterwards. Nahun thought to himself as he smiled contentedly.
Unaware of what consequences his choices would bring.
