Chapter 97.1
Stage 4-4. Notable Changes
The saint announcement in the royal capital went smoothly, and two weeks have already passed.
Then, a noticeable change came to my daily life.
“…Alice. What is this?”
Due to the injury on my right arm, I was spending a leisurely time with Mashiro and the others after a long while when Alice, who had been called by Molina, returned carrying two boxes.
On the table, there were envelopes that couldn’t be held with both hands.
“First, the letters in this box are marriage proposals for you, Ouga-sama.”
“Marriage proposals!? Ouga-kun, are you going to get married!? No, don’t get married~!”
“Technically, I’m also Ouga’s fiancée, though…”
Mashiro clung to me with great force, misunderstanding something.
Beside her, Karen, who was already engaged to me, was smiling wryly.
“Mostly love calls from the daughters of barons and viscounts. The new nobles are particularly noticeable.”
Reina picked up a few envelopes and checked the senders.
As Frone’s disciple, she had various interactions, so it wouldn’t be strange if she had memorized a list of nobles.
The reaction was mostly as expected and not particularly interesting.
“Probably. They want to connect with the four great ducal houses here.”
“The counts are still watching. They can’t easily approach a different faction than before.”
“Besides, I already have Karen, my ducal fiancée. Since they can’t expect to be the first wife, it’s understandable they’re hesitant.”
Only a princess with the king’s blood could surpass Karen as the first wife among the four great ducal houses.
“So, what are you going to do, Ouga-kun? As your sister, I want you to choose your marriage partner carefully…”
“I intend to refuse all of them.”
“Oh, is that so?”
“Of course. I have a battle with Frone coming up, and I don’t want to get involved in unnecessary entanglements. I can’t afford to be distracted by other things.”
I knew she expected this answer, but I played along, understanding her intentions.
“Besides, my left, right, front, and back are already occupied by four people. There’s no room for anyone else.”
As I said this, Mashiro, who had been pressing her head against my stomach, looked up.
“O-Ouga-kun! D-does that mean…!?”
“Now, Alice. What’s in the other box?”
“This one contains letters of encouragement for Ouga-sama.”
“Muu…!”
I cut off Mashiro’s pursuit by turning to Alice.
Sorry, Mashiro. It’s not the right time yet.
When I talk about it, I want to do it properly, on my own terms. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime important matter, after all.
“Encouragement? For me?”
“Yes. Ouga-sama’s achievements have finally started to be accurately conveyed to the people! Since your recognition as the Saint, the rumors have gained credibility and spread rapidly! Finally, there are people who can understand your greatness, and my joy is immeasurable!”
Alice’s excitement mode was back, and I was relieved to see her in good spirits again.
She had been quite down when I injured my right arm.
Good, good. I’m relieved.
“We’ve censored all the contents, so you can rest assured.”
The amount of envelopes packed in the box showed the level of enthusiasm.
Even though the paper and envelopes weren’t cheap, they went out of their way to prepare these for encouragement, so I must be carrying quite some expectations.
“Hmm… Let’s see what’s written…”
The letter I took from the top envelope was on a worn-out piece of paper with a faint earthy smell.
