Chapter 297: Corruption
[Chapter 296 Comments.]
[Keltic_Spirit: It seems her research isn't complete yet. There still seems to be a major breakthrough missing.]
[Adam_Balch_7324: Well you might as well get it set as before you read it it hasn't been set for certain]
…
Two days later.
Theo entered the Crimson Witch, where she was treated. The doctor and the Darkness Witch were visiting her as usual.
"Oh, Mr. Theo! Are you planning to leave soon?" The Darkness Witch asked.
"Indeed." Theo nodded, but this time his expression was more serious than it was supposed to be.
"Is there something wrong? Is the reward not satisfactory?" The Darkness Witch furrowed her eyebrows.
"It's not that. It's just…" Theo paused for a moment, causing the doctor to panic out of misunderstanding. She thought that there was another treatment because of a problem she didn't know about. However, Theo's gaze shifted to the Crimson Witch as he said, "I hope that everyone can vacate this room. I have something to talk about before I go back."
The doctor frowned. That was a rather rude request.
However, the queen looked a bit interested. She never thought Theo would discuss something to the point where he requested the queen leave.
After some thought, the Darkness Witch said, "Alright. In the meantime, I'll be preparing the witch and carriage that will bring you to the gate."
"Thank you." Theo closed his eyes as a sign of gratitude for her understanding.
Once everyone left the room, Theo moved closer to the bed, looking at the Crimson Witch. Her face's complexion had improved drastically, and it seemed that it wouldn't be that long for her to start going back to her normal activity again.
The Crimson Witch put her right hand on her chest while politely lowering her head. "Thank you for helping me, Mr. Theo. I've heard that it's because of you that I'm still able to survive this ordeal."
"How are you? Do you feel any discomfort?"
"No. Tomorrow, I'll be starting the therapy to fully control my body again." She paused for a moment before asking, "May I know how I can help you?"
Theo took out her notebook from his pocket and gave it to her. "Is the information you've written here true?"
"This is…" The Crimson Witch's face turned solemn. "I see. That's what you'd like to talk about. The short answer is…80% true and 20% false."
"Is that coming from your experience?" Theo crossed his arms.
"Indeed." The Crimson Witch nodded before raising two fingers. "There are two points that I need to correct. The first point is that this corruption is not pure energy. It has a body. As for the second point, it appears not two years ago, but three."
Theo pinched the bridge of his nose.
"By the looks of it, it seems that Mr. Theo has understood the entire concept. That must mean Mr. Theo has figured out the identity of this corruption."
"Yeah." Theo let out a long sigh. "A monster that is born when ten worlds are connected to each other."
Once Theo revealed the identity of the corruption, the room became silent once again. The Crimson Witch smiled. "Indeed. I have heard a few things about Mr. Theo from Her Majesty. You are a great teacher, one that I hope to have had when I was young. Your insight into combining the power of other worlds is extremely great.
"But Mr. Theo should have realized that the combination of the worlds' powers is not merely about spiritual energy, qi, knight links, or even potion."
Theo's expression turned dark. "Yeah. It's also the combination of the 'enemy' of that world."
"Indeed. For this world, it'll be the great 'sins.' For the Modern Realm where the academy is located, it will be monsters. For the Mythical Realm, it will be Madness, and so on." The Crimson Witch raised her hand. "If that's the case, just like you, who are able to wield powers from other worlds, all these sources of corruption are also fusing with each other. If everything is about pros and cons, you are the very example of the pros, while this corruption is the example of the cons."
"It seems that you haven't finished your research." Theo bit his lips. He had underestimated the author. From the beginning, he was already a strong individual with all his talents, abilities, and experiences. He could be considered one of the top people, but with all that he had, he didn't have to reach the top of his power to contend with the top powerhouses in all worlds. In that case, what kind of gap could bridge such a thing? The answer had just appeared.
"While I haven't finished my research, I think I should add something to it. If I were to divide the danger level based on the corruption, I'm thinking about…" The Crimson Witch raised all her fingers. "Five levels."
"2 powers interval or 1-4-7-9-10?" Theo speculated.
"No. It'll be 1-2-3-6-10." The Crimson Witch shook her head.
"Hoh?" Theo frowned. Considering this was a novel, he thought that it would be the usual situation where the gap of a high-level threat would be extremely vast. But it seemed to be the other way around. "May I know your reasoning?"
"Certainly. What corrupted me was the power of two worlds. My world, which contains the 'Pride' and the Mythical Realm's Madness. Those two combined and created a source of pollution that took me by surprise. If I knew about it beforehand, I would be able to free myself from them.
"And from that experience, I noticed something, which I also need to confirm from Mr. Theo." The witch paused. "When you learn other world powers, are you adding them like 10+10=20 or is your power multiplying like 10x10=100?"
"!!!" Theo sighed. "It seems that you have gotten your answer."
"I see, the former, huh?" The Crimson Witch sighed.
"Yes. One world's power system can solve a certain weakness from another world. That is to say, it's not mystically turning it into an overpowered ability." Theo also understood her reasoning.
If he compared the gap between ten and twenty, he could say that the jump was twofold. On the other hand, if he thought about sixty to a hundred, the jump was merely two-thirds of the original.
"A corruption that is only originated from a single world, which is what we are already aware of, is called Crisis Grade. A corruption that is generated from two worlds will be called Dangerous Grade.
"As for the one with three sources and six sources, they'll be called Disaster Grade and Calamity Grade. Meanwhile, the last one will be classified as Cataclysm.
"Their names should reflect the danger it poses to living beings without any further explanation. This is currently what I believe is true without any further research.
"I'm thinking about forwarding this information to the queen. And, if possible, let everyone know about it. With my current level, I should easily stop Dangerous Grade, but I'll have a hard time fighting the Disaster Grade. If I learn other world's powers, I might even be able to overcome the Disaster Grade."
"I see." Theo closed his eyes while muttering inwardly, 'So the author is planning to create a terrifying monster with ten worlds' enemies as a last boss? Is this some sort of spoiler? But knowing this, I can finally formulate a plan to meet the author since crushing this last foe will result in meeting him in one way or another.'
