Chapter 544: Extracting Antimatter
"It's open, it really opened!" Sanchez said in utter astonishment.
The alchemists present were also beside themselves with excitement; they had actually managed to separate the elements, which meant that from tonight onwards, theories about the internal structure of elements would no longer be mere speculation but now had solid evidence to back them up.
Lynn had closed his eyes for a long while, manipulating his domain in an attempt to capture the microscopic particles from the explosion, and only after about half a minute did he reopen his eyes.
"How is it, Chairman Lynn? Did you capture those particles?" Sanchez quickly asked.
He was very curious about what was inside an element? Whether it was composed of atomic nuclei and charged protons as they had anticipated.
Lynn shook his head with a hint of helplessness. "No, too fast, I couldn't catch them!"
The hydrogen atoms had been blasted apart by a particle beam that reached one-tenth the speed of light, and the 'remnants' scattered by the violent impact were equally fast, almost instantly disappearing from his perception.
The most critical issue was that, even though he had advanced to become a legendary wizard and had even used the computing power of the Magic Net System just now, he still couldn't directly manipulate the microscopic elements that burst from the atom.
Lynn's eyebrows were tightly knitted; it seemed that perhaps only by stepping into the true Divine Domain could he freely control them.
While magic power base stations had been established across the continent, most wizards, apprentices, and even many civilians with a great talent for math, physics, and chemistry had joined the Magic Net System.
But due to the short time, the brain's decoding of their spiritual power was not high; on average, the computing power they could mobilize was only about five percent, leaving much room for improvement.
If he didn't have sufficient spiritual power and magic power reserves, Lynn did not dare to rashly attempt to break through to a higher realm, as that was a method of advancement he had guessed and conjectured based on the few words of the Star Messenger and the strange quantum state of the Elemental Controller Altoc, which might not be one hundred percent reliable.
Therefore, Lynn planned to first produce antimatter, which would also be an additional ace up his sleeve against the Lord of the Undead.
"How about we construct a reverse electromagnetic field on the outside?" Sanchez suggested.
If they could use an electromagnetic field to bind and accelerate elements, why not the opposite: use a magnetic field to decelerate and capture these microparticles?
Lynn pondered for a moment, then shook his head. "Relying solely on electromagnetic fields might not be sufficient to capture all of the microparticles."
For example, fundamental particles like neutrons, which are uncharged, are not affected by magnetic fields, but they could certainly be bound by gravity fields instead.
Twisting space-time is equivalent to deflecting the path of particles. All that's needed is to create a circular area where these particles keep circling!
Thinking along these lines, Lynn instructed the alchemists to continue the particle collider experiment.
This time they were much luckier than before; after only nine collisions, there were results. This time numerous target elements were shattered, and the cloud chamber once again displayed dazzling fog blossoms...
Lynn was naturally prepared, with invisible gravity fields already covering the entire laboratory. With the substantial computing power of the Magic Net, he could barely perceive the trajectories left by the microparticles as they passed through the force fields.
"How is it?" Sanchez asked nervously.
"Very good, got them!" Lynn opened his eyes, a look of joy appearing on his face, then reached out his hand, and the expansive gravity field blanketing the whole area disappeared instantly, leaving only a small section in front of him.
The space-time here had twisted into a ring, with particles scattered from the core of atoms all confined within this circle.
What delighted Lynn most was that he had actually captured an antiproton, it's known that high-speed particle collisions could produce antimatter, but it was not a guaranteed phenomenon...
All that was needed next was to continue the experiments, gather the remaining antimatter particles, and then attempt to create true anti-elements!
...
While Lynn was busy searching for and capturing antimatter, on the other side of the Space-Time Gate, in the dark, chaotic otherworld, Rafael and others found themselves in the thick of a hard battle.
In the span of half a month, they had used Arrays that absorbed magic power to simulate the magic power loss when the Space-Time Gate was opened, attracting most of the undead to this mountain range.
Even with the cover of these mountains, their presence had been revealed, and they were trapped inside a steep mountain.
This place was originally the lair of a cave-dwelling magical beast, and when they found it, the lair's owner was nowhere to be found, probably long dead.
Therefore, Rafael chose this location as their final stronghold, where the elevation difference allowed them to avoid the undead that couldn't fly.
Even so, little had improved as countless hideous Screaming Demons poured in non-stop from the widely open lair entrance.
These were low-level monsters over one meter tall with two pairs of bat wings that could emit illusion-inducing sound waves from their mouths. Now transformed into undead, they exuded a stench of rot and decay.
The ones to greet them were streams of scorching fire!
Tic, Yoland, and others attacked almost simultaneously, engulfing the flying Screaming Demons in torrents of fire flowing through the passageway. Still, their numbers were too many, and having been turned into undead, they showed no fear of death, braving the flames as they rapidly closed in.
Rafael furrowed his brow and conjured a spell, temporarily sealing the only entrance, but this was clearly a temporary fix; he could already hear the scratching sounds of the mountain walls being damaged.
"It looks like they can't wait any longer," Rafael sighed, taking out the nuclear warhead Vittorio had given him before they entered the Space-Time Gate. It was clear now was the time to use it.
"I will try to break out and draw away these undead to clear them. You all might have a chance to survive the explosion with the mountain's cover!" Rafael looked at those present and spoke seriously.
However, Yoland shook his head with a wry smile, "Even if we survive, it's pointless. The Space-Time Gate is fifty kilometers from here, and the likelihood of us making it back is slim."
"Rather, it would be better for us to act as bait and cast Sky Vaulting," Ivina proposed.
As a sixth-ring Wizard who could also use Force Field Magic to fly, Rafael had a much greater chance of escaping back to the Space-Time Gate alone than they did.
Rafael sighed again but didn't accept the proposal, not because he was too noble to accept the sacrifice of others, but because Ivina and the others were too weak to undertake the task.
Ivina and the others fell silent as well, bracing themselves for the worst.
"How about I act as the bait?" Suddenly, a voice echoed in everyone's ears.
The sudden voice changed Rafael's already tense expression dramatically, but then the secret ring on his right hand lit up, and Lynn's figure quickly materialized in front of the group from a state of translucency.
