Chapter 27: [27] Methods for Breaking Up Couples
Chapter 27: Methods for Breaking Up Couples
Although Shuchiin Academy's rules prohibit inappropriate relationships between male and female students, such restrictions are hardly enough to stop teenagers experiencing their first stirrings of romance.
During lunch breaks or after school, countless couples could be seen walking side by side.
The more reserved ones would sit on park benches and chat, while the less restrained would feed each other or even rest their heads on their partner's lap.
Of course, some went even further—kissing in the corners of the school buildings.
Such blatant violations of school decorum greatly infuriated Miko. Every time she stepped in to stop them, she was met with eye-rolls. Some of the more temperamental students would even push her aside, telling her to mind her own business.
Despite being a member of the Public Morals Committee, Miko was far from popular—at least among the first-years.
And that was understandable. After all, why would couples happily accept an interfering busybody ruining their moments together?
These violations were nearly impossible to stamp out. However, things changed dramatically after Ronan joined the Public Morals Committee.
"Excuse me, you two."
"Huh?"
A boy and a girl, just about to kiss, froze and turned toward the voice with clear annoyance.
"Who the hell are you?"
"Ronan Yao. First-year. Member of the Public Morals Committee."
"Tch, a Public Morals Committee member, huh?"
As soon as they heard his title, the girl visibly lost patience, while the boy stepped forward arrogantly.
"Hey, freshman. Shouldn't you be using honorifics when speaking to an upperclassman?"
Ronan remained unfazed. "Senpai, school rules prohibit dating. If you want to engage in such shameless acts, at least wait until after school. Why the rush?"
"You Public Morals Committee guys really like sticking your noses where they don't belong, huh?"
"Why, thank you for the compliment."
"That wasn't a compliment!"
"Ugh, just get rid of him already." The girl urged impatiently.
"Freshman, get lost. This has nothing to do with you."
Hearing the boy's irritated tone, Ronan suddenly dropped his polite demeanor.
"You two filthy lovebirds, I was being nice and giving you some face, but now you're acting all high and mighty?"
"..."
The sudden shift in Ronan's tone left both of them momentarily stunned.
"Break up. Right now. Otherwise, you're done for. Got it?"
"W-What? How dare you talk like that? I'm never breaking up!"
"This guy is insane!"
"Oh? Refusing to back down? Good. I love dealing with stubborn people."
Ronan nodded, then casually reached into his pocket, pulled out his phone, and flipped through a few pictures before handing it to the girl.
"Congratulations. Here's a lovely picture of your boyfriend shopping with a girl from the girls' school next to Shuchiin Academy. Do you happen to know her, senpai?"
The photo clearly showed the boy walking closely with a stylishly dressed high school girl on a bustling shopping street.
"This…"
The girl's face twisted with fury as she turned to glare at her boyfriend.
"What the hell is this?!"
"I can explain—"
"Oh, by the way," Ronan cut in, "I also caught them visiting a jewelry store together."
"..."
"N-Noriko, I can explain this too—"
"And then, they went to a hotel." Ronan flipped to another picture.
"W-Wait—"
"Here's the receipt."
"Hey—!"
SMACK!
With tears streaming down her face, the girl slapped the boy hard across his right cheek before covering her face and running away, sobbing.
"Noriko!!!"
The boy fell to his knees, clutching his slapped right cheek, shouting after his girlfriend—but it was no use. She was gone.
"You brought this upon yourself."
Ronan stood off to the side, looking completely indifferent.
"You… you…!"
"Hmm? Got something to say?"
"You bastard!!!"
The boy shot up from the ground, seething with rage, grabbing Ronan by the collar and raising his fist to strike.
SMACK!
Ronan reacted instantly—his hand whipped out in a sharp slap across the boy's left cheek. The force was so strong that the boy collapsed, knocked out cold.
"Hmph. Going against the Public Morals Committee leads only to ruin."
Pulling out a small notebook, Ronan calmly drew a diagonal line through a name on the list.
Another couple successfully eliminated today.
...
"Ronan, don't you think you're going a bit too far?"
"How is this my fault? If these people were clean, do you think I'd even have the chance to do this?"
Inside the Public Morals Committee Office, Kobachi wiped a bit of sweat from her brow as she looked at Ronan.
He had only been at Shuchiin Academy for a week, yet he had already forcibly broken up seven couples.
"They're the ones cheating. What am I supposed to do about it?"
"I mean, you're not wrong… but why do you even have this kind of information on them?"
"I have my sources."
"That's exactly why people are going to resent you…"
"Then let them hate me. Ever since I joined the Public Morals Committee, I stopped caring about that." Ronan shrugged, completely unfazed.
"…"
Kobachi adjusted her thick-rimmed glasses, which were nearly slipping off her nose.
This foreign student had already made quite a name for himself at Shuchiin Academy with his baffling behavior.
With his good looks, if he acted even slightly normal, he could have been somewhat popular—even among the "Mixed Students". But instead, he insisted on making bizarre moves that no one could understand. At this point, just about everyone treated him like a plague god.
"Let's set that aside for now… Do you even know what the students think the Public Morals Committee office is for these days?"
"What?"
"A detective agency." Kobachi sighed. "Any student in a relationship who feels insecure about their partner is now coming to us, asking for investigations. And that's not even our job."
"Then just tell them, 'Your boyfriend or girlfriend is cheating.' That'll create a trust crisis. Once that happens, the 'Shuchiin Couple Eradication Plan' will unfold naturally."
"What kind of terrifying plan is that?! Are you completely abandoning all morals?!"
"Of course. Efficiency should always be prioritized when achieving a goal."
"…"
This guy was beyond saving.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Come in." Ronan called out from inside.
Hearing the knock, Kobachi let out a sigh.
"It's probably another student wanting us to investigate cheating…"
"Just tell them, 'You guessed right.'"
"That's way too irresponsible!!"
Click!
The office door swung open, and in walked a familiar face—one of their classmates.
"Uh…"
"Ishigami? You came here too?"
Ronan raised an eyebrow in surprise.
He had never heard of his bro having a girlfriend.
"Well… there's something I wanted to ask you about—"
"Hold on."
Before Ishigami could finish, Ronan cut him off, stood up, and casually threw an arm around his shoulder, leading him out of the Public Morals Committee Office.
