Chapter 104: The 18-Year-Old Look
To protect Oscorp, the responsible board member immediately issued a gag order to the security department.
"Since Max Dillon has no family, no friends, and lived an obscure life, let him remain that way. That's what's best for the company."
For capitalists, money always comes first. Human lives are worthless to them. The only thing they see is whether someone is a tool that can create value; everything else is trash.
If a tool breaks, they simply replace it. As for tools that were never noticed or valued, they're discarded as trash.
All witnesses were silenced, either through company policy or a large payout. Anyone who dared to speak out risked never speaking again.
There's no doubt about it—never underestimate the ruthlessness of a capitalist.
The security staff wasn't the issue; the problem was the two interns, Su Ye and Gwen.
One was the police captain's daughter, and the other was one of the few people who could talk to Max Dillon—arguably his friend.
However, this "friend" was also a major shareholder of Oscorp. The board member, who recognized Su Ye, trusted that he wouldn't jeopardize the company's interests by revealing this incident.
After all, nobody goes against money.
But Gwen, the police captain's daughter, was a different story.
Max Dillon's "body" was dragged away to a morgue in an underground clinic, slated for immediate cremation. Meanwhile, the board member separately spoke with Gwen and Su Ye.
It was unclear what was said to Gwen, but on Su Ye's side, the board member's tone was a mix of sincerity and warning.
"Oscorp is an American company, and the deceased was an American employee. You're here from China to make money, not to cause trouble, right?"
"Don't believe in so-called justice. Trust me, without money, all the justice in the world is worthless!"
The board member, named McKen, had a balding head and a hooked nose, looking quite like Loki's father, Laufey, before makeup.
He was once Norman Osborn's right-hand man and now served as both Harry's assistant and overseer, representing Wall Street investors in Oscorp. He was deeply invested in the company's operations.
Su Ye had to admit the man was right. As a foreign board member, he had no need to involve himself in such matters—better to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Su Ye didn't plan to say much, but there was one thing he needed to make clear.
"Max Dillon is my friend."
"So what?" McKen frowned, his gaze turning hostile and wary as he looked at Su Ye.
"So, I won't agree to how you plan to handle Max Dillon, nor will I sign off on any documents. Also…"
Su Ye stood up and leaned over the table toward McKen.
"And your tone earlier? I didn't like it. I came to America to make money, not to deal with your smug American attitude, especially from a heartless capitalist like you."
"Director Su, mind your position and attitude," McKen said in a low, stern voice, his face darkening.
"My position? I've made it clear," Su Ye said, raising his hand and giving a light wave—a very light one.
Smack!
Five bright red fingerprints immediately appeared on McKen's face, and his mouth filled with the taste of blood.
"That's my attitude as Max's only friend!"
With that, Su Ye turned and walked out, saying as he went, "Feel free to sue me. My lawyer will be happy to have a chat with you."
Bang!
The door slammed shut, and Su Ye turned to see Gwen approaching.
"You hit him? I was just about to do the same. Max was a good guy—I think I've met him before."
Gwen whispered, a mix of glee and concern on her face. "But won't they give you trouble? You're Spider-Man, sure, but they're rich. And rich people are the hardest to deal with."
"No worries, Harry will handle it," Su Ye said dismissively.
"But there's not much more we can do for Max. He has no family or friends, and even winning a lawsuit wouldn't mean much. Forget it—let's ask Harry to get his yacht. We could use some sea air to clear our heads."
Taking Gwen out wasn't just about relaxation—it was primarily to establish Spider-Man's alibi.
Max Dillon wasn't dead; he would soon transform into Electro and cause havoc in Times Square.
If he wanted to cause chaos, so be it. Ideally, he'd destroy all of Times Square, turning the landmark into history—the bigger the scene, the better.
While Su Ye wouldn't be able to watch the drama unfold from the front row, he'd still thoroughly enjoy it.
As for how much damage Electro's chaos would cause to Oscorp's reputation, stock price, and market value? Su Ye couldn't care less.
Whether it was 10 billion or 5 billion dollars, it was all the same to him—enough to spend.
If Old Su didn't like it, he could fly over and deal with the mess himself.
Su Ye would be sure to cheer and applaud him when that happened.
Early the next morning, Su Ye and Gwen boarded Harry's yacht and set sail.
Harry was unaware of the situation with Max Dillon. He was simply thrilled that Su Ye accepted his invitation to go out to sea. However, since Gwen was aboard, Harry had to bring Mary Jane along, which made things feel a bit less free.
But having his bro around was enough—whether he got to "drive" or not didn't matter.
"Rare for you to join us! This time, we're staying out for three days and nights. We're not going back until we've had our fill of fun!"
Harry shouted, "Let's set sail!"
The yacht set off, but Su Ye still had plenty on his agenda.
At the bar, Sharon Carter had already left on her own. As a diligent secretary, she took care of the clean-up herself, leaving nothing for Su Ye to worry about.
Mai Shiranui and the others wouldn't be back for at least ten days, so there was no need to manage anything on that front for now.
Spider-Man's clone was still out practicing his Rasengan. With the foundation laid by Andy's Gale Fist, it was relatively easy to start learning, but perfecting the spinning and adding flair required more effort.
As for the Batcave, work on the new arc reactor core element needed to be prioritized.
By the way, now that the anti-Thor Bat-Shield was done, it was time to consider equipment tailored to counter other heroes.
For instance, an anti-Iron Man glove. The concept was to generate a magnetic and force field upon contact with Iron Man's suit, cutting off its external network and rendering J.A.R.V.I.S. unable to control the armor remotely.
Ideally, leveraging the new element's properties, they could develop an anti-Iron Man "heat patch." Slap it on his arc reactor, and it could instantly cut the power.
There was also the need for anti-Abomination and anti-Hulk mechanical arms. Using Dr. Octavius's tech as a base, they could design external arm extensions—similar to spirit bones—that would greatly enhance physical strength.
All these ideas were meant for the Batman persona. The gear had to be varied and comprehensive—nothing could tarnish the Bat's reputation as undefeated in any duel.
Beyond that, Su Ye had promised to accompany someone on a shopping trip.
"Brother Ye, why do you look so different?" At the entrance of Midtown High's affiliated middle school, young Hinata nearly failed to recognize Su Ye.
With spiky yellow hair, blue pupils, and three whisker-like marks on each cheek, was he cosplaying?
Hinata swore she'd never seen such an odd character before. If it weren't Brother Ye, she probably wouldn't be able to accept it.
Su Ye explained, "I've been practicing transformation techniques. Turns out, constantly maintaining the form helps improve mastery and even increases chakra reserves."
