Chapter 90: Fighting against a Legendary Pokemon
Before Dante and the others even had the time to look in the direction where the voice came from, a rumbling sound came from above their heads. The ceiling began to vibrate, with cracks constantly forming.
Suddenly, the ceiling finally collapsed and a massive thunderbolt descended towards their position.
"I. CAN. DO. THIS!"
Pikachu forced his body to move even under the mountain of pressure and stand in front of his teammates.
Slowly, the tip of the thunder began to converge. Pikachu yelled as all the lightning from the attack started gathering in his body.
From the side, it was surreal to see a bolt of lightning half the room's size slowly being contained in the small body of a Pikachu. The massive pillar began to slowly thin before finally disappearing.
"*Burp~* Ugh, I think I have a stomachache."
Pikachu lay on the ground, his right hand on his belly as his face contorted into a frown.
Even though the Lightning Rod Ability can allow him to absorb electric-type moves and remain unaffected, just like how a Fairy-type Clefairy would still be defeated when faced with a Draco Meteor from Giratina, immunities are meaningless in the face of overwhelming power.
"You alright, bud?"
"Yeah, ugh, I'll just have to digest this for a while."
"Insolence!"
Dante didn't have enough time to care for Pikachu. Accompanied by a sonic boom, a Pokemon entered the room from the hole in the ceiling.
Flying above their heads, a bird-like Pokemon with yellow and black coloration could be seen. Its feathers exuded a razor-sharp look, with its eyes having a dangerous luster.
Dante's face became solemn. He recognized this Pokemon.
One of the three Legendary Birds, the Pokemon in charge of thunderstorms, Zapdos!
Standing before this Legendary Pokemon, Dante felt the pressure surrounding them intensify to a whole nother level.
Right now, it was as if their body was stuck in the middle of a swamp. Every movement required an unnatural amount of effort.
"Hey. You're angry because we disturbed your sleep, right?"
Dante stood in front of Pikachu's body, his face having a nervous smile as he tried to placate the being above them. At the same time, his eyes met with Azumarill for a brief moment before returning his gaze to Zapdos.
Zapdos looked below with a judging gaze, waiting for this mortal's next words before blasting them all to smithereens.
"Here, why don't you have a SLEEP SEED!!"
Dante swiftly took out something from the Item Menu and threw it above him.
Zapdos stared, unimpressed. Do these insects really think just a Sleep Seed has an effect on God? He eats dozens of them before going to bed!
He was about to flap his wings and blow the seed away when he noticed that- this wasn't a Sleep Seed at all!
*BANNGG*
A blinding white light erupted from the item right in front of Zapdos' face.
"KWAAA!"
Zapdos was forced to close his eyes, crying out in pain and anger as his vision turned white.
"It's now, Azumarill!"
Dante laughed in excitement-- his plan worked!
The item he threw was a Trainer-grade Flashbang. It's a cheap item that is very popular among Trainers exploring the Pokeportals for distraction and running away against powerful Pokemon.
Beside him, Azumarill had already looked at the ground when he saw the item Dante threw. After the flashbang exploded, he wasted no time and used Aqua Jet to jump above Zapdos.
Facing Zapdos at such a close range, Azumarill's body began to tremble from the huge sense of oppression. His mind began to be filled with doubts about Dante's strategy.
What if Dante's assumption wasn't correct? Can they hold on before Pikachu recovers? This Pokemon in front was blinded, wasn't that a perfect opportunity to use the Escape Orb?
...would he even be able to hurt such a powerful Pokemon?
Time was running out, and Azumarill forced himself to get rid of all distracting thoughts. He clenched his fist tighter than he had ever done in his whole life, his arms coated in ice as he used the downward momentum to punch Zapdos towards the ground. Unlike the time when he faced the other dungeon Pokemon, this time, Azumarilll made sure to use his full power.
As his fist made contact with Zapdos' body, Azumarill's eyes widened in surprise. It turns out…this guy's body is more fragile than expected.
"ACKKK!!!"
Zapdos let out a high-pitched, shrill cry. His huge body crashed towards the ground, causing the room to shake and dust to scatter from the impact.
With Ice-type being super effective against the Flying type Zapdos, coupled with Azumarill's Huge Power, Dante thought that this would have been enough to take Zapdos down. However, the next thing that happened proved him wrong.
"Impudent mortals! How dare you trick me?!"
Dante swallowed his saliva as the pressure around them further increased. At the place where Zapdos fell, sparks of electricity appeared from within the smoke.
Suddenly, a whirlwind swept past the whole room. The wind was so powerful Dante had to dig his foot into the ground just to not get blown away.
Unfortunately, Azumarill didn't have the same luxury.
His body which was still slowly falling from mid-air was violently blown towards the corner of the ceiling, his arms spread eagled. He was forced to close his eyes to prevent dust and other debris from entering.
Azumarill breathed a sigh of relief when the wind finally stopped. As he opened his eyes, however, he found himself face-to-face with the bird Pokemon from before.
"Azumarill!!"
Dante watched in horror as a blur of black and yellow flew straight from the crater and headed straight toward his partner.
He wanted to move, wanted to do something to delay him, but Zapdos was too fast. He only had the time to take a single step before Zapdos smashed into Azumarill.
"ARGH"
Azumarill spit out a mouthful of saliva, his eyes almost popping out.
"Hngh, pathetic."
Zapdos shook off Azumarill's limp body from his beak, his eyes showing anger and disgust from being seriously injured by such a weak Pokemon.
Without any support, Azumarill's body fell from mid-air. Dante sank into the shadows and hurriedly caught Azumarill before his body hit the ground, cushioning his fall and carefully laying him down.
"You alright, bud?"
"Urgh, what? Was I knocked out?"
Right after Azumarill was injured to the point of unconsciousness, a Reviver Seed from the inventory was automatically used. From the moment Zapdos let him go to Dante catching him, all the injuries Azumarill suffered had recovered.
"Yeah, you ready for round 2?"
"Definitely. You were right, Dan. He's not as strong as he feels."
Azumarill felt the energy in his body recovering and he energetically stood up. The fear in his eyes from before was gone. Instead, it was replaced with the burning desire to drag that oversized bird down from the sky.
"Hah! Count me in! I've finished charging up!"
From the wall where he was blown, Pikachu walked over beside Dante and Azumarill. Right now, his body was uncontrollably flickering from all the electricity he absorbed earlier.
Zapdos' injured body was hovering in the air, feeling confused after seeing the now energetic Azumarill.
What was going on? He had clearly knocked him out, how could he recover so quickly?
However, the confusion in his eyes turned into smoldering rage when he saw the three insects below look in his direction with the desire to fight. His curiosity quickly forgotten as he decided to let the three of them know what it meant to defy God!
Releasing a loud cry, Zapdos flapped his wings and summoned a Hurricane. With his high special attack, the Hurricane he summoned reached both sides of the room and quickly headed towards the trio's direction.
"Let me handle it, all this energy in my body is bursting to be released!"
Pikachu stepped forward in front of the two, a confident smile on his face. After absorbing all the electricity earlier that went even beyond his limits, Pikachu's Lightning Rod Ability was fully activated, boosting his special attack by double and reaching a whopping 193!
Right now, Pikachu feels invincible.
—
The moment Pikachu stepped forward, Zapdos' mind began to set off alarm bells. His hackles rose, his body's instincts warning him of an impending danger.
As he was looking around to find where this sense of crisis came from, he saw a yellow light flashing on the opposite side of the Hurricane. With his experience controlling the thunderstorm, he sensed a massive concentration of electrical energy beginning to gather in that direction.
'W-what? Is the danger I felt…coming from those three!?'
He wasn't given any more time to think as suddenly, a huge pillar of Thunder occupied his field of vision. This one was much larger than the one he had released at the beginning, easily exceeding the size of the room. It effortlessly tore through the Hurricane, heading straight in his direction.
Feeling the intensity of this attack, Zapdos knew it was bad to take it head-on. With his speed, as long as he used Agility, he could possibly have enough time to move through the hallways and escape the range of this move.
But he refused!
What kind of God of Thunderstorm would he be if he had to avoid an electric attack from a mortal!
As soon as the pillar of lightning reached Zapdos, a green barrier surrounded his body. Even through the barrier, he felt the immense power of this move, forcing him to constantly supply energy to keep it up.
From the outside, the attack can be seen going through the dungeon, tearing down all the walls and obstacles in its path, before exiting on one side of the mountain and heading further into the distance.
The Pokemon living in the forest at the foot of Mt. Thunder noticed the surroundings became brighter. Looking up, they trembled in fright when they saw a yellow beam of light extending into the night sky.
More than 10 seconds later, Pikachu's attack finally began to peter out.
Dante and Azumarill had their jaws dropped in shock. In front of them, a large circular hole appeared where walls once stood, extending in a straight line until they could see the outside.
"Are you alright, Pikachu?"
Dante recovered from his stupor and quickly ran to check up on Pikachu. After releasing such a powerful attack, he must have surely suffered some backlash.
"Ha, ha, I'm fine, Dan. I just used up all the energy in my body."
Pikachu sat on the floor, his whole body aching and exhausted. Looking up at the aftermath of his attack, Pikachu began to feel surreal. Just a few months ago, he even struggled in the beginner dungeon. But now…
"*Cough* *cough* For, for mere mortals, *cough* you are quite powerful."
A weak voice came from the front. Standing on the scorched path of Pikachu's attack, Zapdos can be seen, with injuries all over his body.
Even after using Protect, he wasn't able to hold on during the whole duration of the attack. He had to land on the ground and use Roost at the last moment to hang on.
Seeing the figure of their enemy still conscious, Dante and Azumarill quickly took on a fighting stance. As expected of a Legendary Pokemon, he could still survive after taking on such an attack.
"Wait a minute! I *cough* seek no further conflict. You have been deemed worthy by myself *cough*. Unless of course, you wish to fight further?"
After saying the last word, Zapdos' eyes sharpened and a familiar pressure descended upon their team.
A/N: Ugh, I had a hard time writing the fighting scene for this chapter, especially since they're up against their first Legendary boss fight. I think it turned up quite satisfactory, as for whether they'll continue fighting next chapter? hehe.
I also finally decided how strong I want the Legendaries to be. At first, I wanted them to have specific stats, such as all third tier Legendaries having 150 stats each at least. However, I felt that would be too boring, especially since some Legendaries are hyper specialized in some stats.
So after some thinking, I decided that Legendaries will just have a much higher HP than normal Pokemon, signifying their long lifespan and their endurance for being able to fight long battles.
For their base stats, I decided not to move them too much. However, since they do have a long life span, they would inevitably break through their racial limits countless times.
By the way, this is the stats of Zapdos, a Legendary who broke through their racial limit 8 times:
Zapdos stats:
Ability: Pressure/Static
HP: 200
Attack: 131 Defense: 126
Sp. Attack: 156 Sp. Defense: 131 Speed: 140
