I Married the Beautiful Female Protagonist In Order To Survive

chapter 1102

42. This is the Food of Chaos (Part 1)

Lans’ Perspective.

Regarding the new…arrangement… of the great Queen of the British Empire—Lee, who wasn’t quite the “master” of her master, Lans found herself with little to truly complain about. He didn’t attempt to forcibly possess her, a fairy; he showed absolutely no interest in her, not even deigning to use her true form; and he seemed to wield incredible abilities. Just that day, Lans hadn’t even seen what he’d done, and the men Dio had ambushed them with lay on the ground like corpses.

It made sense, she supposed. After all, the man already possessed quite a few fairies; he hardly needed to “steal an honest fairy girl.” His wife was the Empire’s very own Cefyll, and rumour has it that the Queen herself was in his pocket. Why would he even look at a tomboy like her? And lastly, if he didn’t possess some sort of power and means, these two dream women of so many men wouldn’t have given him a second glance…

He was an undeniably excellent man, capable of personally resolving the Northern Ireland “troubles.” If, upon first encountering “Ashes Yanov,” Lans held some doubts, only wanting to exploit his connections, now she had no doubt at all: he truly came to resolve the “troubles,” and possessed the power to do so.

And so… Lans felt regret. If, after that woman was affected by the Chaos, she hadn’t taken the drastic step of dragging the other members along, sacrificing their lives to pave the way for her to eliminate the woman, but instead adopted a conservative approach, hunkering down and waiting for Lee’s arrival, would everything be different now?

Look at her; even with her aggressive tactics, she still relied on him to eliminate Arthur. And so it was now—because her Knightly Order had been utterly annihilated, causing unrest in the city, even… even Dio, who had previously had a decent relationship with Arthur, and lived peacefully alongside them, had been swept up in the “Chaos,” transformed into the crazed figure from earlier…

To say she didn’t regret it now? Impossible… But, Lans thought, at least she could use this opportunity to remind Dio. Although she held no further feelings for him, he was, at most, arrogant, but hardly a “bad man.” If she could just remind him, just get him to “calm down,” at least… she might salvage something!

With that thought, in the dead of night, Lans sought out the place where Dio was being held. After forcibly arresting Dio’s entire family as “traitors” that morning, Lee hadn’t directly “taken care of Dio,” likely knowing Dio had simply been affected by the Chaos, so he had him isolated somewhere.

However, should she have expected it? Lee was wary of her, someone “acquainted with Dio”—she didn’t have the authority to see him.

“Uh… so, I need to get permission from Lee?”

Lans frowned at the guards at the door. Fortunately, just as Lans was about to consider whether she had to resolve this situation with force, a figure appeared, bringing unexpected help.

“She doesn’t need permission. She’s with me.”

It was Felo, the black-haired fairy by Lee’s side!

She didn’t have any particular abilities; she was more of a “mascot.” Yet, this fairy could directly meet with Dio under the guise of “delivering food to Dio.” And this time, she was even choosing to help her, even though she was hiding from Lee that she wanted to secretly investigate Dio’s current state of “Chaos”!

“Lans… what are you still waiting for?”

There was no point in overthinking now. Lingering would only arouse the guards’ suspicion, not to mention that Felo had already taken the initiative to conceal her!

“Oh, oh! I’m coming!”

Lans didn’t dare be careless. She immediately met Felo’s gaze, then feigned taking the meal basket from her hands, and walked towards the room where Dio was being held! This was the first time Lans had experienced the emotion called tension. Her strength as a fairy wasn’t weak; she could even be considered a prodigy, instantly transforming into a master swordsman with the right tool, but this time… Lans felt a strange feeling towards the seemingly ordinary fairy maid beside her, and didn’t even dare to strike up a conversation!

The place where Dio and his retainers were being held was a separate building not far from the lord’s mansion. Lans knew very well that Lee was planning to “isolate” them.

But knowing this, why was Felo still allowed to come alone to deliver food!? Was she not afraid of being affected by the “Chaos”?

Too many strange thoughts swirled in her mind, but she swallowed them back down, and could only offer a simple thank you.

“Thank you just now. There are some things I need to confirm with Dio.”

Confirm whether he realized he had been affected by the “Chaos”; confirm whether he could still clear the “Chaos” on his own; confirm… whether those words he shouted at everyone during the “Chaos” that morning were his true feelings.

Because the behaviour of the victims of this “Chaos” was different from the last time. Lans couldn’t tell whether they were speaking insincere nonsense or “long-buried secrets” that they “never dared to say.”

So, Lans wanted to confirm with Dio, hoping that at least… the regret in her heart could be somewhat alleviated, so she could believe that her previous actions were not “meaningless.”

But…

“Felo, it’s dangerous for you to come here. Lee actually allowed you to come?”

“Mhm!”

It was rare for her to care about this fairy, but her reaction was surprisingly indifferent. Not that she had any objections to her, but… as if it were her nature, she was as wooden as a… child who would only listen to others and then learn.

“Because this is one of my ‘missions’. Lans… what is *your* ‘mission’?”

“Uh… well, this…”

Philo’s abrupt question threw Lance completely off-balance. With the Conquest Knights extinguished, what did she even *want* to do now? What *could* she do? Lance honestly hadn’t figured it out herself.

And in the next instant, amidst her stammering, the black-haired sprite’s even stranger reply reached her ears.

“You… you have to find your ‘purpose’ quickly, or else, maybe you too…”

“Wha… what?”

She too, would what?

A shiver ran down her spine, a sudden inexplicable fear. But just as Lance was about to ask what Philo meant, the creak of the door cut her thoughts short. Time was slipping away.

“It’s… nothing. We’re here, Lance. The one you want to see is in the room behind this door.”

“Going… to see him? I’ll wait here until your talk is over before I go in to ‘deliver his meal’, to fulfill my ‘purpose’.”

The black-haired girl’s gaze was intense, a kind of magic flickering in one of her eyes.

(Wrote too much for this chapter, so I’ll divide it into parts. Part two will be updated tomorrow.

Haven’t lost control like this in a long time, damn it.)
