chapter 1127
66. The Tactical Retreat, Foiled!
After an entire sleepless night, compounded by a full day of “what-ifs,” I could only reach one disheartening conclusion: the plans we’d concocted back at Glamorgan Castle were far too optimistic. It was only upon arriving in the Royal City of Britannia, and encountering the Moon Sprite, that I realized the “chaos” within the heart of Britannia’s power was far deeper than we’d imagined. Even those closest to the “chaos,” like Cefier and Louise, were unable to make any headway in shifting or even notifying her of her current state.
Directly confronting the “chaos” seemed utterly futile. I needed to explore other avenues, such as finding a way to extract Louise from the Royal City first.
Continuing to wait was merely a waste of precious time. The moment I reached this decision, I’d already leveraged the script’s guidance, along with the remaining functional sprite power within me, to somehow infiltrate the Royal City.
However, unlike my previous, brazen entrance to meet the Moon Sprite, this time my actions had to be far more surreptitious, akin to that of a common thief.
Now, under the cover of night, the scant moonlight afforded me a precious opportunity. Employing the script and sprite power for consecutive disguises, I managed, unnoticed, to locate Louise’s whereabouts.
“Your Majesty…”
The Moon Sprite’s warning hadn’t misled me. Louise wasn’t experiencing any overt injustice, nor had anything outwardly strange befallen her. However, the monotony of being “confined” day after day had etched a deeper melancholy upon her features. Turning from her vigil of the moon, she rushed toward me, her joy tinged with urgency.
“Master!”
Good thing no one was around; Louise’s words alone would have landed me in serious trouble.
The prospect of monotonously waiting for the “chaos” to spread proved too much even for Louise to bear. Even her repeated pecks on my lips, a moment later, couldn’t dispel the undercurrent of anxiety she radiated.
“I’m sorry. No matter how I phrased my arguments, that old woman simply wouldn’t show a shred of ‘awareness.’ If pressed too hard, she’d simply ignore me. Now, I can only… sit here, twiddling my thumbs.”
My strategy, upon deliberately returning, involved Louise utilizing her connection, through her identity and through the Moon Sprite, to try and “remind” the Moon Sprite, urging her toward clarity.
Of course, I trusted Louise’s ability to read situations. But… this evolution of “chaos” would yield only one result from simple “reminders.”
【Louise IV’s attempt to remind the Moon Sprite failed.】
The script appeared, its contents delivering the answer. It made sense, in a way: if everyone possessed Louise’s capacity to remain lucid regardless of their state, and even harness aberrant emotions, then the “Chaos” sprite might as well be unemployed, directly retiring out of the job.
Therefore, Louise was simply a “unique exception.” Certain “ideas” required swift action.
Louise regarded me with a hint of wistful sorrow, seemingly puzzled as to why I’d broken our agreement and appeared.
I shook off the wandering thoughts and stated, “Similar to the difficulties you’ve encountered, the plan has changed. There’s no point in us staying to persuade her. I’ll take you and then we will find Cefier, we’ll leave the Royal City together, and then we can make further plans.”
After a pause, I rephrased it in a way that was easier to grasp: “We’re bolting. Understand?”
However, before I could finish, Louise reacted even more “quickly” than I anticipated!
“Leave! That’s not like you…”
For a moment, Louise’s words caused my heart to skip a beat. Fortunately, the girl before me seemed to understand something, and the look of surprise gradually receded. Without further questioning, she simply nodded in agreement.
“I understand. Are we leaving now?”
“Ah, ah, infiltrating the Royal Citadel is no simple feat. Tonight, it’s just my luck holding. Waiting any longer, the chance will be gone. I’ll turn around, don’t look. Hurry and change your clothes, uh… the black one will do.”
I pointed towards the racks overflowing with dresses behind Louise. Cooped up here with nothing to do, she’s probably been playing a real-life ‘Miracle Nikki’ to pass the time.
Lucky for us, because… I actually found a “style” that could pass for the real deal.
I immediately turned my back. Soon after, the rustling of fabric filled the air. Before all of this, Louise would never have obediently changed clothes like this, agreeing to my requests. If I had turned around back then, I’d more likely see a scantily clad “maid” or some mewling “catgirl.”
But now, Louise understands the urgency and danger of our situation. She truly is just changing clothes as I asked. And… I truly won’t look.
My intention now is crystal clear, without a shred of doubt: to escape with Louise.
Whether this plan will succeed or not, I’ll worry about that later. Right now, there is no room for hesitation.
After all, what we are doing completely goes against the will of the Moon Sprite, who is currently in a state of “disarray”. Even if this “disarrayed” Moon Sprite initially held no malice towards us, merely intending to “confine us so she could take care of business,” after our series of “self-destructive” actions, it’s hard to say whether she will become displeased with us.
“Euclid, all done~ Looks like… I can’t bring anything with me. Just take me away.”
“Right!”
Just like… right now!
Just as Louise, having changed into a black dress, her braids unkempt, her crown forgotten, was about to “abscond” with me, either a link in the chain broke down, or perhaps my movements had been “discovered” from the start. In the distance, along the corridor outside Louise’s chambers, a familiar figure stood, as if waiting for us all along.
Seeing Louise and I in such a blatant state of escape, the figure shook her head and sighed.
“Euclid, Louise, I warned you before, didn’t I?”
It’s the Moon Sprite!
Her presence here clearly proves one thing!
[The Moon Sprite has read Euclid’s thoughts!]
[The Moon Sprite has read Louise’s thoughts!]
[The Moon Sprite has prevented Euclid’s escape!]
From now on, all our “thoughts” will be “pierced” by this sprite! Even our desire to escape is no exception!
Disguise? Lies? These things are useless in the face of the sprite before us!
So, the Moon Sprite must have sensed that deepest, most profound thought in my heart – to escape with Louise!
Having been “disrupted” by me time and time again, is it possible that she still bears me no ill will?
[The Annoyed Moon Sprite has killed Euclid!]
Disarray is driving her further and further!
