Chapter 467: 467 Invincible: Absolute Presence, The Interdimensional Aliens, A Lesson for Atom Eve and Omni-man Awakens.
A single step announces his arrival. Why is it always a step?
It's a curious question, but the answer is quite simple: upon his arrival, everything is destined to be absorbed by his presence, and it's the first step people will hear when they see him.
When he appears, he cannot be ignored; when he speaks, only his voice can be heard; when he looks at you, you cannot blink.
Robot – Impossible to analyze… impossible to predict his movements… impossible to measure his parameters…
Rex – I can't move… I feel like if I move, he'll kill me… what is he?
Dupli-Kate – He steals your breath… I feel like I need permission to breathe… even so, my eyes can't look away from him…
Eve – When did he arrive?... wasn't he already here from the beginning? Why is that army, which only moments ago seemed so overwhelming, now so small?...
With just his mere presence, the enemy army stopped its movements. With just a few words, the unchecked violence, the bloodlust, the thirst for war and conquest, all gave way and knelt.
These aliens are specifically interdimensional beings known as the Flaxans. They possess a highly militarized society, dedicated to conquering other worlds with their advanced technology.
They had done this before; they had attacked many worlds without hesitation. Earth wasn't special, just another world on the list, so they didn't bother to start a war or provide a reason. It was just extermination and conquest.
It's strange, isn't it?
It's very hard to accept for them…
One more invasion... one more conquest... that's it... but out of nowhere, everything went terribly wrong…
Far from Cecil and the new guardians' eyes, behind the portal, a devastating attack obliterated entire cities in an instant. Such an event paralyzed their society as civilians wondered what kind of race they had encountered. The answer was one single man, one so terrifying that, if they had known his story, they would have destroyed the portal, abandoned their world, and fled to the farthest reaches of the universe. Sadly, no one was there to tell them.
…
The Flaxans lost their leader in an instant, and although everyone was trained to take command, no one could do so. However, their opponent didn't attack; he simply remained silent in their midst, the origin of the first attack. Of course, they didn't yet understand the true power of that energy sphere, so they still didn't know what they were facing.
"What's the matter aren't you going to attack me?" sneered Allen with a slight smile and bright, intense eyes. The Flaxans, having regained their ability to think, exchanged glances.
"Ahh!"
With a scream and a shot, it all began. These Flaxans were soldiers used to war, and that's exactly what they did. Laser shots and cannons were aimed directly at Allen, but he remained still in his place.
The concentrated energy hit directly; it would have been enough to go through a building, but to their dismay, it didn't even harm Allen.
Allen slightly tilted his head and smiled, "Try again, this time make a greater effort~"
Feeling underestimated, they attacked more fiercely. With more hysteria than reason, they erupted, attacking Allen all at once. There was no pause or rest as if they all knew that the moment they stopped, their lives would be over.
Multiple explosions and loud shots filled Chicago. In front of the young heroes, Allen was being brutally attacked by an army; however, to everyone's surprise, he remained unscathed in the same spot. This reality left everyone speechless, while the rain of shots didn't stop at any point. But unlike at the beginning, it didn't carry bloodlust, but a desperate scream.
But for anyone watching, Allen was simply mocking them. However, his thoughts were much calmer than they could have imagined.
Regardless of Allen's knowledge of them, these beings were a military race with every intention of destroying everything in their path.
Makima declared with indifference – An invasion with the intent to conquer? The answer is clear… they are guilty...
They attacked civilians with weapons designed for total annihilation.
Esdeath smiled with disdain – No interest in taking hostages… and intending to end this with military power… they are guilty.
Strangely, they chose to attack Chicago and not some other place in the world.
2B showed its dissatisfaction – Clearly, they knew about this world, but they chose a city almost entirely populated by civilians… guilty, master.
Artoria added with indignation – There's an unwritten rule where there's an attempt at prior interaction before a war to see if there's a possibility for a truce, or if the enemy chooses to surrender to minimize bloodshed… they didn't, showing total disdain for humanity, guilty...
Following the principle of a Regulator, and listening to his jury, Allen smiled amid a constant attack from the Flaxans.
Albedo laughed with red cheeks. – Allen-sama, they disturbed your day off~ guilty!
Allen laughed, "It's true, Albedo~"
In the end, the final reason was the most important of all. At that moment, Allen traded his day off with his girls to see a bunch of interdimensional aliens with a great thirst for world domination; this definitely put him in a bad mood.
[Molecular Manipulation...]
There was no warning, no notice. The wait was over. The verdict had been given, and the sentence was obvious.
Like the whisper of death, a breeze swept across the chaotic battlefield.
His movements were graceful but commanding; his eyes flashed briefly with power, and no one looked away from Allen. He smiled and stomped the ground.
Transparent lines spread across the battlefield, freezing the Flaxans in place. The uncomfortable silence confused everyone. The Flaxans looked at Allen, not understanding why their comrades had stopped firing.
"You're very hypocritical beings. You travel to worlds to conquer them, yet you get scared as if I'm the monster," Allen glanced at the Flaxans who understood his words, "Remember this, you came here, don't complain…"
After Allen's words ended, all the soldiers, thousands of them who had managed to cross, didn't have to retreat like in the original story. Their weapons, their tanks, and of course, their bodies disintegrated into fragments of dust and light.
Everyone was in absolute shock. Allen's actions were chilling as he eliminated so many enemies without even moving.
"Haa… that's impossible…" Eve gasped in disbelief. The situation was even more absurd than her teammates thought. Eve, who had great sensitivity to subtle changes in the structure of matter and its most basic components, realized she was both terrified and fascinated, scared yet in a strange trance that left her marked and unable to look away.
She could see how Allen extended his powers through an invisible attack and how he proceeded to decompose, alter, and recombine the atomic structure of the invaders. This happened in a nanosecond—they were already dead by the time Allen began speaking to them.
Eve fell to her knees. That was her power but used at such an absurdly high level that it was like an apprentice watching Sebastian Bach, the father of music, compose a score.
Allen smiled at Eve, 'You don't need to be in awe, girl. It was just a small demonstration of how you should use your powers…'
Eve opened her eyes upon hearing Allen's telepathic message. That's right, he had used the molecular manipulation he acquired in "The Boys."
The reason Cecil had named these kids the new guardians long before in the canon was at Allen's recommendation, as one of the first things he did was advise him on that. Of course, this was in line with the potential of the four young superheroes.
Allen watched the portal to the Flaxans' dimension, extended his hand, and closed it as the portal deformed and shut.
This was no longer molecular manipulation but spatial alteration. Allen looked at Robot, who was recording each of his movements and actions, clearly intending to research his powers thoroughly.
...
Barbara – "It's like Batman... but more robotic."
Batman – ...
Barbara – "Sorry."
...
Allen turned around and began walking in the direction he had come from. Although he had made Cecil pay more attention to the upbringing of the New Guardians, he had no intention of being a babysitter in this world. Now, he just wanted to continue with his work as a Regulator. Unfortunately for him, he'd be sought after at least by Eve and Robot, for different reasons, but in a nearby future, both of them would be knocking on his door.
His actions had caught the attention not only of the new guardians, Cecil, and the GDA, but also of the world. Allen was too striking and imposing to simply go unnoticed. But all of this seemed of little importance to Allen, who returned to his calm gaze as if nothing in the world mattered more than returning to enjoy his day off.
Allen could feel the intense stares on his back from the New Guardians, but he didn't stop. Allen teleported to above a building and looked at the horizon. "It's a pity I couldn't fine them, though..."
Gwen – "Really, is that what's got you down?"
"I'm not down, but you know Gwen, it's a shame..."
MJ – "Come on, honey, haha."
Felicia – "You can't blame him, he has a big family, so he's working hard... isn't that right?"
"That's true, with a fine on an entire race for a large-scale invasion, that could definitely pay for two or three weddings..."
Natasha – "Allen, you can charge overtime to Cecil. He made you work today."
Allen opened his eyes and smiled. This sent a chill down Cecil's spine.
"..." One last thought on the matter crossed his mind.
The Flaxans came from a dimension where time passed much faster than on Earth. During their first invasion, they began to age rapidly, forcing them to retreat, but that didn't happen here...
[This might be our fault; don't you remember we use the temporal anchor every time we arrive in a world?]
'Time dilation is one of the most unpleasant things that has happened to me in my life. Time travel paradoxes, temporal alterations, all that is confusing, annoying, and difficult to deal with. That's why the Sis handles anchoring time every time we enter a world.'
[That must have neutralized the Flaxans' weakness. They were automatically anchored to this time when they invaded...]
Allen sighed, "Tsk, I guess I won't be able to fine Cecil anymore..."
Ten minutes later, Allen received an invitation from Cecil to have coffee and chat. The man didn't understand the extent of the power his visitor held. Allen, of course, declined. It was still his day off.
This time, Cecil wasn't bothered by the refusal and postponed the meeting until tomorrow. Instead, he went back to check on Mark, who was crying with his mother in front of Omni-Man's bed.
Cecil wasn't surprised. Going from worrying about exams and girls to alien invasions and pulverized people was something very difficult for any rookie superhero, and it didn't matter if it was the son of the world's strongest man.
...
Mark, kneeling, crying, and with blood on his suit, apologized to his father, "I'm sorry, I really tried, I tried to be like you, but..."
"Don't worry, Mark," said his mother, kneeling with him.
At that moment, Omni-Man extended his hand and placed it on his son's head.
"I see you've had a tough day, Invincible..." Nolan Grayson smiled, and both Mark and Debbie felt relief.
"Dad!"
"Honey!"
Cecil watched this from the doorway but didn't intervene. Omni-Man had woken up. This would have surprised Allen and many of his viewers in the Chat who knew the Invincible story, as Omni-Man woke up much earlier than he should have.
Cecil quietly withdrew. He knew he had to play his cards carefully. Allen had been a pleasant surprise to him, but Cecil didn't imagine that Allen was stronger than Nolan. The number of feats Nolan Grayson had accomplished as Omni-Man was mind-boggling, and Cecil Stedman had witnessed most of them. But no one can predict the future to come.
...
The next day, Allen arrived at the GDA. Even though technically they were on the same team, he hadn't been to this place before. It felt like entering a Star Trek ship, with so much technology. This organization was far more advanced than S.H.I.E.L.D., and that said a lot.
But it also had a lot to do with the fact that, unlike Nick Fury, who had to deal with arrogant bosses who complained about everything and demanded a lot, Cecil had greater authority and could do just about anything without restrictions.
Allen met with Cecil, who guided him to the elevator.
"Are you ready?" Cecil asked Allen.
Allen shrugged without showing the slightest concern. Inside a room with a comfortable table and two chairs, a man was sitting with a mustache and blue eyes, sturdy, with graying hair.
It was Omni-Man... he looked at Allen silently, then at Cecil, who withdrew. Allen sat down across from Omni-Man.
The first confrontation between the two came too soon. Now, how should the conversation begin?
"Good day, my name is Allen Walker, or if you prefer, call me the Regulator."
"It's a pleasure, I'm Nolan Grayson, but you can call me Omni-Man..."
They stared at each other in silence...
It was an intense situation where the two strongest people in the world were in the same place, facing each other. Of course, for the spectators, this situation could only have one outcome...
"I'll ask you directly, did you kill the guardians?" Just that question made the entire room's atmosphere freeze to absolute zero.
This was a tricky situation to handle. Depending on the answer to that question, this place could become a bloodbath. Of course, there would be an obvious winner, but Cecil and the people observing this situation wouldn't know that.
