Chapter 489: 489 Invincible: The New Guardian Force, The Grim Reality, Black Sansom, Rex Splode and Invincible On the Edge of Death and Worthy Opponent.

The sky was as clear as the afternoon sunset. The air felt heavy. The ground trembled slightly. Birds and animals moved away from the danger.

Inside the Machine Head's building, the screams of two men were carried by the wind to the ears of people nearby. The crowd knew it, as this was a common occurrence—nearby, some superhero was fighting a supervillain.

By the time the sounds of blows echoed against the walls and windows, the police and special units were already evacuating the closest civilians. The process was quick and silent, thanks to their constant practice of having to do so.

If it weren't for Allen's eyes and the Chat observing this as the battle between Invincible and Battle Beast unfolded, one might think there were no civilians at all. But there were. It's a city, a very big one, and there are definitely many people.

Allen turned his attention back to the fight. No, this couldn't be called a fight. Battle Beast hit Invincible a couple of times and defeated him, that was it.

...

MJ – The fight is different... the beating is similar but different...

Diana – It's natural. With Allen's existence, many things have changed.

Hestia – That lion has no mercy...

Antiope – No, on the contrary... he's holding back a lot.

Kratos – He's really strong...

...

Many in the Chat and several dolls noticed the strength of the lion without knowing who Battle Beast was. Allen remained silent as his gaze turned to the sky. Omni-Man must have thought he was hiding well behind the clouds, but that wasn't the case. Whether in the original story or in this world, he had no intention of helping Mark. There are theories about why. At first glance, one might think it's because he strongly disapproved of Mark helping Titan, and wanted to teach him a lesson. On the other hand, the Viltrumites' knowledge of Battle Beast is ambiguous. It's said the lion travels across the universe looking for worthy opponents, but it's unknown whether they have encountered the Viltrumites before.

Artoria – Are you thinking of intervening?

"Maybe..."

Battle Beast is a warrior with a strong sense of honor. He believes that to kill someone, that person must be worthy of being recognized as a warrior by him. That's why he hasn't killed Invincible, nor does he plan to, as long as Invincible doesn't show any intention to fight more. Because Battle Beast is also violent and savage, so even if he considers you unworthy he will kill you if you don't surrender when he gives you the chance. So, even if Allen doesn't intervene, Invincible will be saved, but...

...

Inside the building, Mark, his face bruised, crawled away from Battle Beast. Thokk only watched him silently. The kid had a bit of strength and resisted several attacks, but that was it. He wasn't even an entertainment for him.

Just when Invincible felt his life was in danger, Battle Beast's ears twitched, and Machine Head grabbed his own head.

The wall shattered, and the new Guardians entered. Robot, Rex Splode, Shrink-Ray, Dupli-Kate, Monster Girl, Black Samson, and even Atom Eve, who hadn't been in the original fight.

"Do you have any idea what a new wall of imported marble will cost?!" Machine Head became annoyed again at losing money, which was what he hated the most.

"Guys!" Mark was surprised.

"Cecil sent us to help you..."

Robot's response was simple, and his attention was fixed on his enemies.

"Be careful, they're as strong or stronger than the Lizard League..." Robot warned.

Dupli-Kate didn't waste time, splitting and attacking the electric man with her clones, but he was too fast.

His name was Kursk, a Russian supervillain who could control electricity. He had been an enemy of Red Rush, but after Red Rush's death, he ended up working as Machine Head's bodyguard. He has the power of Electrokinesis and Electric Transmutation, which allows him to turn his body into electricity.

"What a complicated opponent!" Kate felt helpless. As a superheroine who also relied on her fists, facing an intangible opponent was troublesome.

"Are these the new Guardians? They don't even come close to Red Rush!" Kursk mocked.

"Switch!" Eve appeared and trapped Kursk in a shield sphere.

"Wait, this is a trap!" The supervillain turned into electricity, but he couldn't escape Atom Eve.

"You stay here!"

"I won't thank you~," Kate smiled before running to the one that looked like a machine and, along with her clones, attacked him from different angles helping Robot in the process, who shot with his arms.

"He's very resilient..." Robot said, watching his shots hit the supervillain, who seemed like a mix of a robot and armor. His name was Furnace, and his strange condition made him a plasma-based body, forcing him to stay inside a power suit. The strength of his suit depended on his body's energy, making him which made it inexhaustible.

Kate attacked him, but he was too resilient, and his body was so hot that it burned the hands of several clones.

"Damn it! What's with these supervillains? Isn't there any big, muscular one with super strength, like always?!" Kate complained while still trying to hurt Furnace.

"Shut up. You wanna switch?" Rex and Black Samson were facing the lava villain, but as expected, their attacks weren't doing any damage.

His name was Magmaniac, and as the name suggests, his body was made of lava. He could shoot molten lava blasts from his hands. His body temperature ranged between 700°C and 1200°C (1292°F and 2192°F). He could also alter his body into any continuous shape he could imagine and enlarge himself by extending his arms and legs.

"SWITCH!" Monster Girl shouted, transforming into an ogre and punching Magmaniac, causing him to explode, but he quickly reformed.

"I think you made a mistake in choosing your opponent this time," Rex said incredulously, then pointed to Battle Beast, who hadn't been attacked until now. He was just observing in silence, but his eyes were darting in several directions, his nose trying to smell something, and his ears listening intently. "Fight with that cat!"

Monster Girl charged at the lion since he was the most suitable opponent for her.

'Don't attack him...'

...

Amanda stopped, hearing the familiar voice in her ears. 'Allen, is that you?!'

'Yeah, no one should attack the lion, its name is Battle Beast...'

'Why?...'

'Just be a good girl and don't attack him... He's not someone you can defeat. Trust me, fight Furnace, the big metal one, or the bald one.'

"..." Amanda was dissatisfied but turned her attention to the other villains.

The bald guy, who looked the most human among the supervillains, was Tether Tyrant. He was fighting Shrink-Ray, who was shrinking to dodge his attacks and growing to hit him.

Battle Beast narrowed his eyes, fixated on the ogre about to charge at him. But then he stopped and started acting as if he were speaking to someone.

"Who are you talking to?" Thokk growled.

Amanda stayed silent. The humanoid lion appeared as a warrior in her eyes. He didn't look like anything special, at least not like someone she couldn't defeat.

'Amanda, I know what you're thinking, and I agree. You and the Guardians became stronger after fighting me every day.'

Allen knew it well. The conditions were different from last time. Their strength, speed, agility, reaction time, decision-making, teamwork, and control of their powers; every aspect of the new Guardians had improved. They were between 50% and twice as strong as they should have been at this point in the story.

Shrink-Ray grabbed Tether Tyrant from behind while Kate kicked him in the head, knocking him out.

"Take that!"

Dupli-Kate and Shrink-Ray high-fived after defeating the villain.

Seeing he wasn't useful against Magmaniac, Rex switched targets to Furnace and attacked him with his enhanced explosions, breaking the power suit and releasing the plasma from Furnace before he fell.

"Take that, big metal guy!" Rex cheered.

Robot's arms turned into cannons, shooting a solution that coated Magmaniac and then solidified. "I must thank Mr. Walker. Thanks to his uncontrollable fire, I now have means to neutralize anyone with this type of ability..."

Atom Eve smiled, watching her teammates win. She had neutralized Kursk from the beginning, and he couldn't intervene anymore. It was a total victory for the Guardians. Only Battle Beast remained, still watching Monster Girl until she answered his question.

'I think we can beat him...' Amanda replied. She hadn't had much action and also wanted to show how strong she had become.

'No... girl, stop contradicting me. I'll say this only once: even if you were five times stronger, you'd still be killed by Battle Beast.'

"...!"

Machine Head stood up from his seat, but he was not nervous. "This is incredible, they've really become very strong! How about this? I'll pay you double, no, triple what Cecil Stedman would if you work for me!"

"Why don't you leave, you arrogant bastard!" Black Samson flew with the help of his suit and decided to attack Machine Head once and for all.

At that moment, something changed. Black Samson, who had vast experience fighting supervillains, didn't sense this as an easy victory.

"Something..."

That was all he could say before a golden mass appeared out of nowhere and struck him, shattering his armor, breaking his ribs, damaging his organs, and throwing him against the wall.

Everyone stood stunned, watching the sudden increase in speed from the humanoid lion.

His blood-red eyes glared fiercely at Monster Girl while behind her, Black Samson, now buried in the wall, coughed up blood, agonizing.

"Bastard!"

Rex launched explosive spheres at Battle Beast, who received them without taking any damage. He kicked a piece of rubble off the ground, sending it crashing into Rex, gutting him, and spilling his blood all over the floor.

"Rex!" Robot's eyes glowed, calculating, but this time Machine Head was faster.

"It's useless, you can't win..." said the villain in a white suit with a robot head arrogantly.

Battle Beast attacked Monster Girl. Eve, seeing this, created a shield between them, but Battle Beast broke it with little effort. He grabbed Monster Girl by the neck. She struck the lion to free herself but didn't even manage to scratch him.

Battle Beast hurled his golden mass at Atom Eve's sphere, breaking it. Kursk was released and attacked Eve, who barely managed to defend herself. Then he moved at high speed toward Magmaniac, used an electric charge to free him, and immediately attacked Robot to prevent him from capturing him again.

Magmaniac threw magma at Shrink-Ray and Dupli-Kate, who barely managed to escape to avoid being melted in the lava. For a moment, the entire situation was reversed, and this was only because Battle Beast decided to intervene.

"Amanda!" Eve screamed in concern and launched power beams from her hands to help Amanda but they hit the Lion without hurting it.

Battle Beast could have easily broken Amanda's neck, or so it seemed. However, the pendant that Allen had given her was still there, faintly glowing, ready to activate.

Thokk observed her calmly. "Little girl, tell me who you were talking to... depending on your answer, that will decide your fate..."

"Let her go!" Invincible got up and angrily attacked Battle Beast, but without his golden mass, he drew his sword, which had been discreetly attached to his back, and cut Invincible.

"Huh?"

Mark received a wound from his shoulder to his stomach, stunned for a moment, looking at Battle Beast. He didn't understand how a Viltrumite like him could be so easily defeated. Soon, blood gushed, and Mark's intestines spilled from his stomach. A normal human would be dead, but being a Viltrumite he was still alive but in pain.

"AAAHHHH!!!"

"You're not worthy, yet you still try to annoy me..."

Battle Beast's eyes were only filled with disappointment. For him, killing someone so weak was beneath him; there was no glory, no fun, no pride in doing such a thing. The blood of the weak did not deserve to stain his fur.

"Invincible!" Amanda hit Thokk harder, trying to break free, but he didn't even flinch as he wiped the blood off his sword with a wave of his hand... Monster Girl smiled bitterly, "I should've listened... he's going to punish me."

"Who are you talking about?"

Monster Girl reverted from her transformation and became a sixteen-year-old girl again. Being smaller now, she fell to the floor.

Battle Beast was about to say something but felt the room's temperature drop, and it wasn't due to Darkblood.

Battle Beast's sharp senses alerted him, and he looked in the direction of Magmaniac, only to see him completely frozen. Kate and Shrink-Ray stared in awe at the blue-haired woman standing next to the statue that used to be a supervillain. She had her arms crossed, looking bored.

Thokk felt the urge to fight for the first time, but the beautiful woman, exuding a deathly aura, closed her eyes, not responding to Thokk's intentions. It wasn't because she didn't want to fight him, but because the lion was her Master's.

*PUM*

A sound was heard, and everyone turned to see Kursk trapped by wires that seemed to prevent him from turning into electricity. Eve frowned, staring at the green-haired girl sitting on a couch.

"It wasn't necessary, Rebecca..."

"Maybe, but Allen already gave you the freedom to finish this, and you wasted it~" Rebecca mocked. "Really? Three months training with Allen, and you let your guard down like this?"

"I just got careless... I didn't expect that lion to be this strong..." Eve growled but didn't argue. She landed on the ground and fell silent as if the battle no longer had anything to do with her.

Machine Head slammed his desk. It didn't make sense. He had some sort of premonition or clairvoyance based on quantum calculations. Even when there were variables, they weren't usually too many, and thanks to that, he became the emperor of the underworld.

"What's going on? It's not possible that my quantum equations could be wrong... no, setting that aside, who are these women?!"

"They're my women."

Machine Head froze, as did Battle Beast, who turned to look at someone standing next to Machine Head.

"You—"

"Shut up..." Allen raised his hand, and with an instant burst, Machine Head's head disintegrated.

"I think this was inevitable..." murmured Allen with a still lazy look. Of course, Allen remained calm because the three girls he cared about protecting were relatively fine—slightly beaten and a little tired, but nothing that he didn't put them through every day in training.

...

Thokk's POV

I was born on a planet filled with almost constant wars and death. Every day, someone wanted someone else's head. Peace was not an option, because every time someone rose up to try to stop the wars, someone else started another.

That's fine. When I finally reached the age to fight, I went out into the world and took my first head. It was the first time I breathed. The satisfaction of clashing all the force I had cultivated for over a hundred years, the sensation of the danger of dying, the glory of the victor, the pain of an injury. Everything was perfect, and from that moment on, I became enraged. I let my life turn red and descended upon every continent of my world, killing anyone who dared to fight.

That's when I realized that I had been blessed with the fury of battle. With each encounter, my strength grew, to the point where they stopped being able to hurt me.

They stopped being able to pressure me. They stopped being worthy of facing me... I should have been satisfied because my actions created a utopia. No one dared to take a sword or a mace because I would appear to challenge them... that world became peaceful, but there was a problem.

MY WRATH DIDN'T CEASE!

I WAS SO ANGRY! WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GETS STRONGER?! WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESN'T GET HURT?! WHAT'S THE FUN IN A FIGHT IF THERE'S NO RISK OF DYING?!

From that day, I knew two things: my unique condition was not a blessing but a curse, and I needed to leave my planet, or I would destroy it.

I started wandering through space, looking for the strongest... that became my routine. I would arrive on a planet, challenge its champion... cut off their head, and take it as a trophy...

That's how I conquered... I don't remember the exact number, but it must be around a thousand worlds, a thousand champions slain, and not a single one was worthy... not one... I... I just wanted a fun fight and a glorious death, why is everyone so weak?

End of POV

The Lionine's pupils contracted, and his muscles tensed like never before, as if waking up from a dream. His fur stood, this had never happened before. His teeth gritted so hard that they could break diamonds like cotton candy. His senses sharpened to the limit, no, even more than that.

"ROOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRHHH!!!"

A thunderous roar erupted from Thokk, something he had never done before, maybe never would. However, it wasn't a roar to warn like a regular lion, but a roar of euphoria.

Thokk's body grew, and his claws seemed to sharpen. Without a trace of fear, a smile appeared on his face.

Allen returned the smile with a half-smile. "Are you happy, Lion?"

"YES!" Thokk's aura seemed to take a physical form, and everyone around him paled. "YOU'RE WORTHY!"

Allen squinted with a calm look, "I see..."

A/N: To clarify Battle Beast is the name he chose after leaving his planet, Thokk is his original name and Leonine is the name of his race.
