Chapter 10
When Kirishima inserted the marked betting slip into the payout machine,
The words “Please wait a moment” appeared on the screen.
Shortly after, a staff member congratulated him and directed him to a manned counter.
Not again!!! he thought to himself—but kept that thought private.
“I-I-I-I actually won…!? I actually won…!!!”
While screaming internally, he tried to remain calm.
“H-Hello… uh, thank you,” he muttered, handing over the WIN5 ticket at the manned counter and receiving a claim ticket.
After waiting for his number to be called, Kirishima was led to a separate room.
Apparently, the winnings were too large to be processed at the regular counter.
“H-How much…?”
“Approximately 40 million yen. The payout for a single bet was around 20 million yen—it wasn’t an unusually chaotic race, but since you had two winning tickets, that totals 40 million yen. Congratulations.”
Kirishima was completely stunned.
The staff member then handed him 40 million yen in cash.
They also mentioned that many media outlets were requesting interviews, and asked if he wanted to accept any.
“I’m a university student, so I’d rather not draw too much attention.”
With that, he declined the interviews.
Since walking around with that much cash was out of the question, Kirishima requested a paper bag from the racecourse staff. He packed the stacks of bills into the bag and asked an employee to escort him to a taxi waiting at the back entrance.
During this process, the staff noticed he was carrying the same paper bag he had received on Satsuki Sho day.
“Wow, what a crazy day for you!” they laughed.
But that was another story.
Seated in the taxi, Kirishima gave the driver his next destination.
“Please take me to the nearest major bank.”
By the time he arrived, the bank’s counters had already closed. Left with no choice, he repeatedly deposited money into his account via the ATM.
It was a tedious process, but in the end, he managed to deposit most of it, keeping 5 million yen in cash for himself.
After settling back into the waiting taxi, he instructed the driver once again.
“Next, take me to Ginza, please.”
“Understood. By the way, sir… that was a crazy amount of cash. Even I was getting nervous just watching you.”
Now that the cash was safely stored away, the driver finally felt comfortable enough to speak freely.
“Yeah… honestly, I’ve never seen that much money in my life either. I was on edge the entire time.”
“Right? I bet…”
Engaging in this casual exchange, they arrived in Ginza about an hour later.
Feeling grateful to the driver for his patience, Kirishima tipped him generously.
Then, he set out on his next task: buying maintenance tools for his wristwatch.
Luckily, it was just past 7 PM, so the department stores were still open, though barely.
However, after browsing the selection, he realized that most of what was available leaned more toward repair tools rather than maintenance tools.
“This isn’t quite what I was looking for.”
So instead, he decided to purchase a watch storage case—something to keep his watch safe while he slept.
Because, well… what if someone stole it while he was asleep?
The case was fairly expensive, but Kirishima felt satisfied with his purchase.
With the shopping trip finished and the time still under 8 PM, he decided to buy something for himself.
It might seem sudden, but Kirishima had always had a complex about Louis Vuitton.
In fact, coming to Ginza was, in a way, his attempt to finally overcome that complex.
And so, he arrived at Louis Vuitton.
Security guards stood at the entrance, giving the store an intimidating air.
Trying to hide his nervousness, Kirishima straightened his posture and confidently stepped inside.
A store associate immediately approached him.
“Good evening, sir. What are you looking for today?”
For a moment, Kirishima wondered—Do I look so out of place that they feel the need to assist me right away?
“Uh, yes… I’d like to see wallets and bags—for myself.”
The staff member looked momentarily surprised.
But their expression quickly shifted into a professional sales smile.
“Understood. Let’s start with wallets—do you have a specific style in mind?”
“I’d like a long wallet. I’d like to see what you have available.”
It wasn’t exactly how he had intended to phrase it, but his message got across.
While mini wallets had become the trend in recent years, Kirishima disliked the idea of folding bills.
So, he had always known that his next wallet would be a long wallet.
His current wallet was a hand-me-down from his father, a well-worn bifold wallet without a coin compartment—one he had been using for over ten years.
On top of that, the 5 million yen he had kept on hand wouldn’t even fit in the wallet, so he had stuffed the bills loose into his jacket’s inner pocket and his jeans pockets.
After reviewing the store’s selection, Kirishima settled on a Portefeuille Brazza wallet, which had a generous amount of storage.
To match, he also purchased a Briefcase Explorer—a bag in the same design.
Together, they cost around 500,000 yen.
He was extremely satisfied with his purchase.
In addition to those, he picked up small accessories like a perfume and a cardholder, and even went for a necklace.
By the end of his shopping spree, he had spent nearly 1 million yen.
With this, my Louis Vuitton complex should finally be resolved.
By the time he finished checking out, the store had long since closed for the day.
Yet, they had allowed him to continue shopping in a near-private setting—a gesture for which he was truly grateful.
“Alright… time to head back to Osaka.”
“I got a new wallet. I got a new bag. And I crushed it at the races.”
Feeling victorious, Kirishima gathered his loot and made his way toward Tokyo Station.
