I Suddenly Became Rich, But I Have No Idea How to Spend the Money

Chapter 18

“Ah, good morning, Akira-kun! Want to sit next to me?”

“Oh, good morning, Hitomi. Sure, I’ll sit next to you.”

The moment this exchange took place in the lecture hall, the students erupted into whispers.

Rumors spread—

“The last prime bachelor of Handai is taken.”

“The Madonna of Handai has found a suitor.”

“That bastard Kirishima…!”

Though it wasn’t quite chaos, the commotion was noticeable.

Hitomi, amused by the unexpected reaction, decided to take things up a notch. She grabbed my arm and leaned her head against my shoulder.

Several nearby students took the shock head-on, with some dropping to their knees on the spot. Others ran out of the lecture hall in tears.

“Hitomi, that’s too much.”

I called out to her, stunned by her bold move.

“I honestly didn’t expect this kind of reaction. But hey, Akira-kun, you should take more pride in having such a beautiful girlfriend.”

She could get away with saying things like that simply because of her looks.

“I am honored, Lady Hitomi.”

I played along, exaggerating my tone.

After class, since both of us had free time, we headed to the campus café to kill time.

The conversation was lighthearted and filled with trivial topics, but for Hitomi, having her first boyfriend made even the smallest conversations feel fresh and exciting. For me, every discussion with her allowed me to learn more about her, making the time spent together genuinely enjoyable.

We had lunch together before parting ways—me heading to my afternoon lectures, and Hitomi going to the university library.

We were both having the time of our lives, enjoying each day to the fullest. Nothing particularly special had happened, yet there was a deep sense of contentment as we went our separate ways.

After attending three afternoon lectures, I drove my pride and joy, my Lexus LX, to do some shopping.

I had invited Hitomi along, but she was at work and hadn’t replied. Feeling a slight pang of loneliness, I made my way to what was likely the largest automotive supply store in Osaka.

“The inside of my car feels a little plain.”

With that thought in mind, I browsed through the store and picked up a new air freshener, an upgraded rearview mirror, and a few other accessories to make my car’s interior more comfortable.

“That should do it.”

Satisfied with my purchases, I decided to take a drive toward Namba.

As I cruised around the Ebisu Bridge area, I suddenly remembered that there was a RIMOWA store nearby that sold suitcases. I parked my car around Shinsaibashi and headed toward the RIMOWA store.

“Welcome,” a store clerk greeted me as I entered.

“Please let us know if anything catches your eye,” they added before returning to their tasks.

The truth is, I’m a suitcase enthusiast.

Because of my obsession with suitcases, I appreciated the clerk leaving me alone to browse.

“I need something durable that will last for years. Something I can use long-term.”

Thinking about my current, nearly broken suitcase, I scanned the options.

Then, I found it—the Topas Stealth, 34L.

It was the perfect size for carry-on luggage while maintaining an air of luxury. More importantly, the Stealth series had a unique feature: the more you used it, the more the outer coating wore off, revealing the underlying material and giving it a seasoned look.

(Note: At the time of writing, RIMOWA’s product lineup was different from what it is now. The original wording has been preserved.)

“This is a must-buy.”

I decided to get the 34L Topas Stealth.

While I was at it, I also grabbed the larger 85L version for long trips.

And because I couldn’t stop myself, I fell in love with the vibrant red color of the Salsa Deluxe series and added a 58L polycarbonate suitcase to my cart as well.

Suitcases are expensive, but getting my hands on these long-coveted pieces filled me with satisfaction.

After completing the purchase, I told the store clerk that I would bring my car around to pick them up. I walked back to the parking lot, retrieved my car, and drove it in front of the store.

The clerk helped load the three suitcases into the back of my Lexus LX.

Thankfully, my LX was the two-row, five-seater model, which meant there was plenty of cargo space.

(Note: This was written before the release of the latest LX model, so the setup may differ. Please keep that in mind.)

By the time I was done, it was around 8 PM, so I decided to head home.

On the way, I stopped by a supermarket to stock up on groceries.

Carrying all my purchases up to my apartment was a serious struggle, but I managed to get everything inside.

Moments like this really make me think,

“I can’t wait to move into a bigger place…”

When I placed my newly purchased suitcases in my room, I quickly realized something—they took up an absurd amount of space.

Having three large suitcases in my room made the space feel cramped, almost suffocating.

It also felt like a terrible waste of space.

So, I decided to leave all three suitcases in my car for now.

After all, I didn’t plan on giving anyone else a ride besides Hitomi.

“What a hassle…”

Grumbling to myself, I took the three empty suitcases back to my car, packed them into the trunk, and returned to my apartment.

With that, another day came to an end.
