Chapter 9:
Chapter 9: Going to Investigate:
“I’d rather not trouble you. Thank you for your kindness,” Lin Fan replied calmly.
He had no intention of involving others in this matter. What he was about to investigate wasn’t something ordinary. Even the one who had secretly passed him the news had expressed fear. Lin Fan didn’t want to drag innocent people into this.
But Shen Wuxiao brushed it off with a smile. “That’s too formal. We caught a thief together—doesn’t that count as a bond?”
“Besides, I’m the kind of person who likes helping others. If there’s anything you need, just say the word and I’ll take care of it!”
His smile was warm and harmless, his tone genuine.
“Whether you’re looking for someone or need something done, I have a few connections here.”
Lin Fan hesitated for a moment. He wasn’t familiar with Zhonghai. Having a local assist him could make things easier. He could always repay the favor later.
“Alright then. Thank you, brother.”
Shen Wuxiao’s face lit up. “Now that’s more like it. It’s not that I have to help—I’m just incredibly bored most of the time. I actually enjoy finding things to do.”
Lin Fan was speechless.
It was obvious this man truly had too much time on his hands. He didn’t quite understand how these rich young masters thought. Maybe this was how they passed time when they had too much of it—sticking their noses into other people’s business just for fun.
But anyone who could afford to drive a luxury car like that had to come from a powerful background. His social connections in Zhonghai were probably far beyond anything Lin Fan had access to. If that kind of help was available, there was no reason not to use it.
The urgency came from the fear that the murderer might escape. If not for that, he wouldn’t have been in such a rush.
As for deeper secrets, they couldn’t be shared casually. Lin Fan was no fool. He didn’t trust people easily. So far, Shen Wuxiao just came across as a cheerful, idle young master who liked to get involved in random things.
“Brother, where were you going just now? Come on, hop in!”
Shen Wuxiao waved and strode over to his Bugatti Veyron. Lin Fan followed him silently.
Once inside, the sports car roared to life.
“You still haven’t told me where we’re going, bro.”
“Dragon Court Seven-Star Hotel,” Lin Fan said casually.
Shen Wuxiao didn’t ask questions. He hit the gas pedal, and the car surged forward with a deep roar.
The acceleration was intense—typical of a supercar.
Lin Fan instinctively gripped the door handle. The pushback was too strong.
As they sped down the road, Shen Wuxiao chatted as if nothing unusual was happening.
“Brother Lin Fan, you’ve got such a serious look on your face, and you’re heading to a luxury hotel. Don’t tell me… you’re going to catch someone in the act?”
“Is your wife cheating on you? Want me to call a few guys and deal with the scumbag? We’ll teach him a lesson he won’t forget!”
Lin Fan was speechless.
This guy really had a wild imagination.
But to be fair, from the outside, it did kind of look that way. A man heading to a hotel first thing in the morning with a grim expression—it wasn’t a far-off guess.
“Stop guessing.”
Lin Fan dismissed him with a wave, then casually asked, “Are you familiar with the Dragon Court Hotel?”
The real reason he’d accepted help from Shen Wuxiao was to take advantage of his local connections. As a typical rich playboy, he likely frequented high-end hotels. If he was familiar with the place, Lin Fan could use that to blend in without drawing attention.
Lin Fan was extremely cautious by nature.
That was why he had been able to become the legendary Border Wolf King.
The person who killed his brother was still unknown.
But according to the information he’d received, Lin Chen had died at the Dragon Court Hotel.
If that was true, then there had to be clues there.
However, the one who killed his brother was clearly someone powerful. Even the person who’d passed the information to him hadn’t dared to mention a name.
If Lin Fan went on his own, his intentions would be too obvious. It might alert the hotel and cause the culprit to flee.
But using Shen Wuxiao’s playboy image as a cover was perfect.
Upon hearing the question, Shen Wuxiao laughed. “Brother Lin, you underestimate me!”
“I practically live at the Dragon Court Hotel. It’s just a seven-star place—of course I know it!”
Lin Fan gave a faint smile. “That so?”
“Absolutely,” Shen Wuxiao nodded. “I’m even close with the hotel manager. If you feel embarrassed about anything, just leave it to me.”
“Just tell me which room your woman and her lover are in. I’ll have the entire hotel staff block every exit until we catch them red-handed!”
Lin Fan nearly choked.
Why did it still sound like he was being cheated on?
He couldn’t be bothered to explain. He simply smiled awkwardly and said nothing.
If he kept talking, this guy might come up with even more ridiculous theories.
Shen Wuxiao stopped joking after that. As they waited at a red light, he pulled out his phone and typed something quickly.
As for the hotel, there was no need to investigate from the outside.
Because the Dragon Court Hotel was actually owned by Shen Wuxiao’s family.
Letting Lin Fan wander in clueless? That was never going to happen.
After driving for over twenty minutes, the sports car came to a stop in front of the towering Dragon Court Seven-Star Hotel.
Lin Fan looked at the grand building with mixed emotions.
This was the place where his younger brother had died.
Now that he was here, he had to find out the truth.
He didn’t believe the killer could erase all traces. There had to be something left behind.
In reality, everyone who needed to know already knew—except for him.
Even Liu Ruyan, who was overseas, could find out easily.
After all, Shen Wuxiao hadn’t made any effort to hide it.
“Brother Lin Fan, what are you standing there for? Hurry up or that scumbag might already be finishing round one!”
Shen Wuxiao called out.
Lin Fan snapped out of his thoughts and followed him into the hotel.
These high-end places operated around the clock.
And since Shen Wuxiao had shown up in person, the hotel manager came out right away.
A middle-aged man in a suit greeted them. He looked refined, with a perfect professional smile.
Even before he got close, he extended his hand warmly. “Ah, Master Sikong! What a surprise!”
Shen Wuxiao grinned. “Eight-force gale!”
“Old Xie, no need to waste time. My buddy here, Brother Lin, just got cheated on. We’re here to catch the bastard in the act!”
Manager Xie almost couldn’t keep a straight face.
Young Master Shen was as shameless as ever.
Still, he was a professional. He immediately put on a serious expression.
“What? That’s outrageous!”
“We must uphold justice for Master Sikong’s friend!”
He turned to Lin Fan with a sincere expression. “Brother Lin, what’s your wife’s name? I’ll check if she or her lover booked a room.”
Lin Fan felt a surge of frustration rise in his chest.
But he held it in.
This was a mistake…
“Thank you, Manager Xie. But this is a matter of pride for a man. I’d rather not bother you too much.”
“If it’s possible, could I take a look at the security footage? Once I see the person, I’ll know right away.”
That was the only way he could steer the conversation.
Check the surveillance first.
Even if some of the footage had been erased, there were always clues left behind.
