Chapter 47:
Chapter 47:
“The position of the Lin family head belongs to the one who is most capable.”
Lin Qiandong did not directly respond to Lin Chuan’s accusations. Instead, he spoke with an air of righteousness. “I set up this fair competition for both of you. What’s wrong with that?”
Lin Chuan scoffed. “Fair competition? What a joke.”
“A truly fair competition, huh?”
“If this is so-called fairness, then tell me—why do you have the right to blame me now that I’ve used legitimate means to send him to detention?”
“You…”
Lin Qiandong was momentarily speechless.
If he were being completely honest, his previous actions had clearly shown favoritism toward Lin Hai.
And this time, there was no way to fault Lin Chuan for what he had done.
He hadn’t framed anyone. He hadn’t used his family’s influence to oppress others. His methods had been entirely legal and justified.
If anything, the only one to blame was Lin Hai himself—for being too foolish.
“I created this competition to select a worthy heir. I never wanted you brothers to turn against each other. You are bound by blood. Besides me, you are each other’s closest family. I hope you can compete without completely breaking your relationship as brothers.”
Lin Qiandong softened his tone, finally putting on the expression of a father.
Lin Chuan, however, simply laughed. “Do you really believe that? I don’t think you’re so naive as to not have considered what my fate would be once I lose my claim to inheritance. Do you think that after Lin Hai takes over the family, I’ll still have an easy life?”
“You know what kind of person Lin Hai is, don’t you?”
Lin Qiandong shook his head. “He wouldn’t do that. When I established this competition, I made it clear that no matter who inherits the family business, they must treat the other well. He even personally promised me that if he won, he wouldn’t drive you into a corner.”
Lin Chuan sneered. “And you actually believe that?”
“If he really gains control of the family, and the power is in his hands, who’s going to hold him accountable for that promise?”
“You have lived through so much—surely, you’re not foolish enough to ignore this possibility?”
Lin Qiandong fell silent.
Deep down, he knew Lin Chuan was right.
He understood Lin Hai’s character all too well. His illegitimate son was ruthless and unscrupulous, stopping at nothing to achieve his goals.
It was precisely this quality that made Lin Qiandong appreciate him.
Back in his own day, he had relied on similar ruthlessness to seize control of the Lin family and dominate Zhonghai for so many years.
To accomplish great things, one had to be merciless—not just to others, but to oneself.
And Lin Hai fit this mold perfectly.
People like them would crush all obstacles in their path.
With that in mind, it wasn’t difficult to guess who Lin Hai’s first target would be once he inherited the family’s power.
Lin Chuan.
It was unexpected that his supposedly useless son had also realized this.
Seeing the determination in Lin Qiandong’s eyes, Lin Chuan smirked. “So, let’s not pretend anymore.”
“You want to support Lin Hai? Fine. But I refuse to be someone else’s stepping stone.”
Straightening his clothes, he continued, “I will reclaim what is rightfully mine, in my own way.”
“I only hope that from now on, you stick to the competition rules and stop interfering between me and him. This is the first and last time.”
With that, Lin Chuan picked up the teacup from the table, drank its contents in one gulp, and turned to leave.
Lin Qiandong watched his son’s silhouette disappear beyond the grand doors, momentarily dazed.
This was the same son who used to be terrified of him, who once wouldn’t even dare to breathe too loudly in his presence.
Yet today, he had stood up to him, confronted him head-on, and spoken with clarity and conviction.
For a brief moment, he even felt like he had been overpowered by his son’s presence.
Was this really the same good-for-nothing son he had always looked down on?
For a few seconds, doubt flickered in his mind.
But soon, his usual cold sneer returned.
A leopard can’t change its spots.
He refused to believe that a worthless fool could undergo such a drastic transformation in such a short time.
Most likely, Lin Chuan was simply panicking now that he was about to lose his position as heir.
He had probably spent days rehearsing those words, just so he could make a grand speech in front of him today.
Heh.
A useless son will always be a useless son.
From what he had heard, Lin Hai had already managed to grow his initial ten million into nearly twenty times that amount.
Granted, much of it came from speculation and questionable dealings.
But still, the fact that he had turned ten million into nearly two hundred million in such a short time was proof of his capabilities.
Lin Hai already showed the potential of a true leader.
Meanwhile, what had Lin Chuan done?
Nothing.
Other than fighting and fooling around with women, he hadn’t made a single significant move.
Since the competition started, he had been spending money recklessly—on entertainment, women, and luxury.
By now, he had probably already squandered most of his initial ten million.
A complete disgrace.
…
As Lin Chuan stepped out of the room, the servants in the courtyard couldn’t help but steal cautious glances at him.
They had all heard the intense argument between him and his father.
It left them in shock.
In the past, Lin Chuan had been utterly submissive toward Lin Qiandong—he wouldn’t even dare to raise his voice, let alone talk back.
Yet today, he had erupted like a volcano, standing his ground and fiercely arguing with the family head.
It was beyond their imagination.
Had the young master lost his mind today?
How could he do something so outrageous?
Lin Chuan noticed the mixture of fear and awe in their eyes and found it amusing.
The original host of this body had always been friendly and polite toward the household staff. He had treated them kindly, speaking to them with respect.
Yet instead of appreciating his kindness, they had often mocked him behind his back.
But now, after witnessing him clash with Lin Qiandong, they were suddenly afraid of him.
Truly laughable.
Some people only understood power.
If you were gentle with them, they saw you as weak and easy to bully.
But the moment you revealed your strength, they would start showing you respect.
Indeed, the best way to manage people was with both the carrot and the stick.
Just as he was about to leave the Lin Estate and return to his villa, Chen Jirong rushed over.
“Xiao Chuan, what got into you today? I could hear you arguing with your father all the way from the back courtyard!”
The old butler looked at him in astonishment, as if he had just witnessed a supernatural event.
In front of the only person in the Lin family who genuinely cared for him, Lin Chuan didn’t bother putting on a facade.
With frustration in his voice, he recounted everything that had happened.
“Grandpa Chen, tell me—wasn’t he being completely biased? This was clearly Lin Hai’s fault, yet he blamed me! Is that fair?”
Chen Jirong sighed and shook his head with a wry smile. “Your father simply doesn’t want to see his sons turn against each other. It’s understandable.”
“Ha! ‘Brothers’?” Lin Chuan scoffed.
“If there’s anyone in this world hoping for my downfall the most, it’s probably that so-called ‘brother’ of mine.”
