I'm Definitely Not Overpowered in Another World

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Should I Be Surprised?

I've transmigrated—

Nangong Xiao thought to himself. But that was all it was: just a thought.

Surprise? Shock? Fear? Or perhaps excitement bordering on ecstasy? None of these emotions existed.

His reaction to everything happening in front of him was as calm as when the old lady at the orphanage called him back for dinner.

Even when he suddenly found himself standing on a vast, endless grassland, even when there was nothing around him but the sky, clouds, and the plain—aside from a sword-wielding, armored person standing before him—his response remained indifferent.

This person, wearing a silver light armor with red trim that blended elements of both Japanese and Western fantasy, had the appearance of a beautiful girl in a short skirt and white stockings. Her chestnut-brown hair flowed down to her waist, and her delicate features were as captivating as a lotus flower blooming from water.

From her appearance, she looked to be around sixteen or seventeen years old, standing about 160 centimeters tall, with a well-proportioned figure.

Initially, her face held a hint of a smile, but soon it showed a trace of surprise, as if something unexpected had occurred.

After a moment of silence between the two, the girl seemed unable to contain herself.

"Umm... aren't you even a little surprised?"

Her voice was clear and pleasant, the kind that would stick in your mind after hearing it.

By the way, she spoke in Japanese, but that wasn't an issue for Nangong Xiao, who was used to consuming raw, untranslated media.

"Should I be surprised?" Nangong Xiao responded in fluent Japanese, then began to survey his surroundings.

This was indeed a grassland. There was no doubt about that. The sky was blue, and clouds drifted lazily above. A breeze swept through the grass, but there were no cattle or sheep in sight. Instead, off in the distance, a group of small, jelly-like creatures resembling jelly beans were hopping along.

The smaller ones were about ten centimeters in diameter, while the larger ones were over a meter. As they bounced, they let out cute cries of "Poring~ Poring~," and their adorable appearance was enough to melt anyone's heart.

This confirmed it for Nangong Xiao: this was definitely not Earth.

These creatures looked exactly like the super-popular monsters from the game Ragnarok X, the Poring. And Earth certainly didn't have anything like them.

Nangong Xiao casually observed the Porings in the distance, leaving the girl standing there feeling a bit awkward, her expression twitching as if she were being ignored.

Still, in her gentle way, she asked, "Aren't you even a little curious about your situation?"

Her second question prompted Nangong Xiao to shift his gaze from the Porings back to her.

He gave the girl, who seemed somewhat perplexed, a glance before pulling out a pair of glasses from who knows where and placing them on the bridge of his nose. He lightly adjusted the frame with his right index finger, causing the lenses to glint sharply in the sunlight.

"As someone who's spent years hanging around forums like Ouk, End Point, and Wasted Land—places that essentially serve as training centers for transmigrators—I don't find suddenly being transported to another world all that surprising."

"Tra-transmigrator training centers?" The girl's mouth opened slightly, a hint of shock flashing in her eyes.

Nangong Xiao paused for a moment, realizing that the girl was either a native of this other world or a fellow transmigrator from Japan. It wasn't unusual for her to not get the joke.

Without dwelling on it, he asked, "That's not important. So, can you tell me your name, gender, age, place of origin, occupation, hobbies, and so on?"

"Oh, I'm Asuna. Female. This year I'm... wait a second! Why is this starting to feel like an interrogation?!"

Perhaps it was Nangong Xiao's sudden shift in demeanor, or maybe it was something else, but Asuna had unconsciously been answering his questions before snapping out of it. She quickly glared at him in annoyance.

"I was just gathering basic information. If I offended you, I apologize."

A vein appeared on Asuna's forehead. His apology lacked sincerity, and his emotionless tone only made her angrier. But just as she was about to retort, Nangong Xiao spoke again.

"Oh, right. I should introduce myself first. My name is Nangong Xiao."

"..."

"..."

"....."

The two stared at each other for a long time in silence before Asuna's face stiffened. "A-and then?"

"And then?"

"Like... your age or hobbies?"

"Don't you know it's important to keep personal information private when dealing with strangers?"

"Then why did you ask me?!"

"I learned it from the Meme King."

"The... Meme King?"

"Don't worry about it." Sensing her confusion, Nangong Xiao brushed it off and shifted the conversation. "Asuna, right? Is that the correct pronunciation?"

As he spoke, he turned away, once again watching the jelly creatures play in the distance, hands behind his back like some sort of big shot. The sight made Asuna twitch in exasperation.

"Ah, yes, that's the correct pronunciation. Though your Japanese has a bit of a unique accent, it's not wrong," she responded, her expression shifting to one of mild frustration.

"I was walking home from school when suddenly I found myself here. My thinking seems clear, and my senses feel normal. Yes, it's confirmed—I've transmigrated. The first person I saw after arriving here was you—Asuna. Could you explain what role you play in all this?"

Listening to his flat, emotionless voice and strange phrasing, Asuna felt somewhat uncomfortable. Still, his summary of the situation gave her some clarity.

This boy, with his youthful face, was likely about sixteen or seventeen years old. He stood close to 180 centimeters tall and was most likely a student—a high schooler, to be exact.

Looking at his attire, he wore a light blue tracksuit, and his mention of walking home from school reminded Asuna of something she'd heard before: apparently, most high school students in China wear tracksuits as school uniforms, regardless of gender.

In that case, this new arrival must be Chinese.

Nangong... wasn't that a surname in China?

"What? Is there something wrong with what I said?" Nangong Xiao asked, noticing her silence.

"No, it's nothing." Asuna cleared her throat and, adopting a more official tone, said, "As I mentioned, my name is Asuna. I'm your guide, and for the next week, I'll help you adjust to life in this other world. The details should have already been implanted in your memory by Him. There, you'll find the answers you seek. Though the information might not be thorough, it will give you insight into the key questions."

Nangong Xiao raised an eyebrow and began to reflect. Soon, unfamiliar memories surfaced in his mind.

After a moment of sorting through them, he roughly understood his situation.

In short, he'd been selected by some unfathomable, great being as one of the chosen to be transported to this nameless other world to carry out a clichéd mission—defeating the Demon King.

Beyond that, there wasn't much more useful information.
