Chapter 77 - A Gaze that Shakes the Soul!

Shin'ō Academy.

The basic Shunpo class had ended, marking the conclusion of the day's lessons. Gilgamesh, Renji, and Rukia were walking together toward the cafeteria.

On the way, Rukia noticed something odd and couldn't help but ask, "Gilgamesh, where is Yoruichi?"

Renji, hearing this, realized that the black cat usually held in Gilgamesh's arms was missing. "No wonder I felt something was off. Yoruichi's not here," he said.

Gilgamesh smiled and explained, "Yoruichi went to help me with something. She'll be back in a while."

Renji and Rukia didn't think much of it and started discussing what to eat for dinner. But just as they reached the cafeteria door, a calm voice called out, "Gilgamesh, please come with me. Captain-Commander Yamamoto wants to see you."

Gilgamesh, Renji, and Rukia turned to see a stern-looking middle-aged man with white hair and golden eyes, sporting a small black mustache and a somewhat Western appearance. He was wearing a Shihakushō with the First Division Vice-Captain insignia on his left arm.

Though Renji and Rukia didn't recognize the man, they quickly realized from his uniform and badge that he was someone important.

Others heading to the cafeteria also noticed the man, and murmurs quickly spread.

"That's Chōjirō Sasakibe, the Vice-Captain of the First Division!"

"Vice-Captain Sasakibe is Captain-Commander Yamamoto's right-hand man. What's he doing here?"

"It must be because of Gilgamesh."

"Didn't you hear? He said Captain-Commander Yamamoto wants to see Gilgamesh."

"Could it be that Gilgamesh's talent is so extraordinary that even Captain-Commander Yamamoto has taken notice?"

"Do you think Captain-Commander Yamamoto might take Gilgamesh as a disciple?"

"It's possible."

Ignoring the surrounding chatter, Gilgamesh turned to Renji and Rukia and said, "You two go ahead and eat. I'll be back soon."

Then, he nodded to Sasakibe and said, "Let's go."

Without a word, Sasakibe turned and led the way to the First Division.

Renji and Rukia couldn't shake the feeling that Sasakibe had a hostile demeanor. They exchanged glances and decided to follow Gilgamesh to see Captain-Commander Yamamoto.

Just as they were about to follow, Sasakibe suddenly stopped and cast a cold gaze at them, saying, "Know your place. Not everyone is qualified to meet the Captain-Commander."

Renji and Rukia had never experienced such an intimidating stare. They couldn't describe the feeling; it was as if an overwhelming pressure bore down on them, making their entire world tremble.

Cold sweat dripped down their faces, soaking their clothes.

But the pressure only lasted a moment, as Gilgamesh stepped between them and Sasakibe, allowing them to breathe again.

Sasakibe then turned his gaze to Gilgamesh, who looked back with his jewel-like red eyes.

Sasakibe was momentarily taken aback. Apart from Captain-Commander Yamamoto, no one had ever intimidated him with just a look, let alone a 12-year-old boy.

Although he was reluctant to admit it, Sasakibe felt an invisible pressure from Gilgamesh's gaze, as if he was being looked down upon by a sovereign ruler.

Grinding his teeth, Sasakibe's years of training with Captain-Commander Yamamoto helped him withstand the intimidation.

He resumed leading the way.

Gilgamesh reassured Renji and Rukia with a warm smile, "Don't worry about me. I'll be back."

Then he followed Sasakibe.

After a while, Gilgamesh, looking at the distant First Division quarters, suggested, "Walking will take too long. Let's use Shunpo."

Sasakibe hadn't expected Gilgamesh to suggest Shunpo.

He remembered that today was Gilgamesh's first day at the academy. Could he already use Shunpo?

Then Sasakibe realized Gilgamesh might be implying he should carry him using Shunpo, which would indeed save time.

Just as Sasakibe was about to offer, he saw Gilgamesh disappear in a flash, reappearing far ahead.

Sasakibe's eyes widened in shock. "He knows Shunpo? How is this possible?"

Without thinking further, Sasakibe quickly caught up to Gilgamesh.

With over two thousand years of experience, having served Captain-Commander Yamamoto for centuries, Shunpo was second nature to Sasakibe.

He easily overtook Gilgamesh.

Watching Gilgamesh keep pace behind him, Sasakibe silently increased his speed to test Gilgamesh's Shunpo capabilities.

As they neared the First Division quarters, Sasakibe was astounded. No matter how much he increased his speed, Gilgamesh always caught up quickly.

Sasakibe, with over two millennia of experience, saw that Gilgamesh's Shunpo technique was improving rapidly.

Though they arrived at the First Division quarters, Sasakibe's mind remained unsettled.

Looking at Gilgamesh, who seemed unfazed, Sasakibe couldn't help but think, "What kind of monster is this?"
