In Naruto, the System Asks Me to Entrust Pokémon

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Old Feng

After Dragonite and Sarutobi Hiruzen left, Ryo sat back down again.

With Dragonite keeping an eye on things, he wasn't worried.

Even if Sarutobi Hiruzen hadn't aged, he still wouldn't stand a chance against Dragonite.

"Bu~yi!"

Just as Dragonite and Sarutobi Hiruzen left, Espeon looked toward Ryo.

"Alright, go ahead if you want to leave. I'm not forcing you to stay with me," Ryo said with an exaggerated eye roll.

Hearing this, Espeon didn't say anything further and quickly headed toward the backyard.

Watching Espeon's departing figure, Ryo shook his head helplessly. Judging by its eagerness, it was likely off to play somewhere again.

"Boss Ryo! Boss Ryo, are you here?"

Just as Espeon left, a voice sounded from the entrance.

Hearing it, Ryo stood up. "I'm here. Come on in."

Moments later, a middle-aged man entered.

Upon seeing Ryo, the man smiled. "Boss Ryo, do you still have any wild beast meat today?"

Ryo nodded. "Yes, follow me. But Old Feng, did you come here alone?"

Old Feng shook his head with a chuckle. "Of course not. Boss Ryo, with the amount of meat you supply, there's no way I could carry it all by myself."

Ryo smiled. "Call the others in. I'll go get it for you."

Old Feng nodded again. "Alright, thanks, Boss Ryo."

Ryo shook his head and turned toward the backyard.

This man, named Old Feng, was someone Ryo had met when he started selling wild beast meat.

Back then, Ryo noticed that the nearby mountain had plenty of wild beasts. Since he couldn't possibly eat them all, he decided to sell some of the meat regularly.

To save himself the trouble of going all the way to Konoha's market every day, Ryo asked Old Feng to come by daily to pick up the meat.

Of course, Old Feng was only willing to make the trip because Ryo offered him a generous deal. Otherwise, few people would bother traveling all the way to the outskirts of Konoha.

Ryo picked up a wild boar carcass and brought it back to the cabin.

By the time he returned, three muscular men had joined Old Feng inside the cabin.

"Boss Ryo, your supply is getting smaller and smaller. At this rate, I won't be coming anymore. It's too much trouble for such a small amount of meat—I can't make a profit," Old Feng complained, frowning at the single wild boar.

However, he wasn't surprised by Ryo's ability to lift the heavy carcass.

The first time they met, Ryo had carried two entire beasts by himself.

And without such strength, it would be impossible for him to hunt wild beasts daily.

After all, the beasts in this world were far stronger than those in Ryo's original world, thanks to the presence of chakra.

Hearing Old Feng's words, Ryo smiled. "Old Feng, this will be the last time. I won't be hunting wild beasts anymore."

In truth, Ryo had only resorted to hunting wild beasts because he had run out of money. Now that he had plenty of funds and had cleared the nearby mountains of dangerous beasts, there was no need for him to continue.

Surprised, Old Feng asked, "Boss Ryo, what happened? Why are you giving up such a good business?"

Ryo didn't answer directly. "Let's weigh the meat first."

Old Feng sighed and signaled the others to weigh the wild boar.

"Boss Ryo, it's 325 pounds. At the agreed price of 26 ryō per pound, that's a total of 8,450 ryō."

Indeed, wild boar meat was only 26 ryō per pound. Even in the market, it rarely sold for more than 30 ryō per pound.

In Ryo's previous world, such a price would be unimaginable.

But in the Naruto world, wild beasts were so abundant that anyone could find some with a bit of effort in the mountains.

Moreover, the beasts grew at an unusually fast rate. If a mountain was cleared of beasts, it wouldn't take more than a few months for new ones to appear.

For many ninja from humble backgrounds, selling wild beast meat was one of the few ways to earn a living early in their careers. With so many people selling meat, the price naturally remained low.

Ryo had always wondered why Naruto, despite being so poor, preferred eating ramen over buying meat, especially when a bowl of ramen cost 50 ryō.

Later, he realized it was because Naruto couldn't cook, and the meat vendors refused to sell to him.

Ryo nodded in response to Old Feng's calculation. "That's fine."

He wasn't too concerned about the money, and he knew Old Feng wouldn't dare pull any tricks.

Taking the money, Ryo didn't bother counting it and put it away directly.

"Ah—"

Old Feng sighed again. "Boss Ryo, are you sure you're not going to sell meat anymore?"

Although he had complained earlier about the low quantity, he was reluctant to give up such a profitable deal.

After all, he could earn over 1,000 ryō from just one wild boar.

Ryo shook his head. "I'm done."

Considering the fortune he had just made from that rich client earlier, there was no way he would continue this side business.

Besides, the wild beast trade wasn't sustainable in the long run. While the beasts grew quickly, it still took time for their population to recover.

Disappointed, Old Feng nodded. "Alright, then."

There was nothing he could do if Ryo refused. Forcing him was out of the question.

He was about to leave when Ryo suddenly stopped him. "Wait."

Old Feng turned back with a hopeful look. "What is it, Boss Ryo? Did you change your mind?"

Ryo gave him a strange look. "No, but while I won't be hunting wild beasts anymore, I can give you the ability to hunt them yourself."

"Huh?"

Old Feng's eyes lit up. "Boss Ryo, are you serious? You're not joking, right? Wild beasts aren't something ordinary people can handle."

For ordinary people, hunting wild beasts was a near-impossible task.

It would take several people with proper equipment, and even then, there was always a risk.

Ryo shook his head, his expression serious. "I'm not joking. I'm absolutely serious."

"Alright, Boss Ryo. What's your plan? Just so you know, I have no talent for becoming a ninja," Old Feng said cautiously.

Ryo rolled his eyes. "Become a ninja? Even if you had talent, no one would teach you."
