Chapter 10: Chapter 9: Shushu

Oliver had just struck Buggy, leaving every one of Buggy's pirates in shock.

"I think my arm is dislocated." He adjusted his arm and saw Zoro injured and Luffy trapped in the cage. "You guys look fine."

"Do you think I'm fine?!" Zoro shouted at him.

"Something like that."

Oliver was quite injured, with blood constantly dripping from his head.

"I don't think I can win like this," Oliver said, feeling a bit dizzy.

"Oliver! Get Zoro out of here!"

Buggy was trying to get up, but he was still stuck on the floor.

Oliver went to the cannon, grabbed it, and aimed it at the pirates.

"WAAAHHH!! THE CANNON IS POINTING THIS WAY!!"

The pirates started running, trying to escape while also attempting to free their captain.

"Zoro, go to Luffy and try to take the cage. You, light the fuse."

Zoro went to try and get Luffy out while Nami lit the fuse.

"WHO WAS THE ONE THAT HIT ME?!!"

The pirates managed to free their captain, and the first thing he saw was the cannon aimed right at him.

"GET DOWN!!" Buggy shouted.

The cannon fired the Buggy Ball, destroying a large part of the bar's upper section and creating a thick curtain of smoke.

"We need to get out of here. By the way, who are you?" Zoro asked.

"Me? A thief," Nami said.

"She'll be our navigator," Luffy said with a smile.

"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?! I already told you no! Instead of saying nonsense, think of a way to get out of there!" Nami yelled at him.

"Leave this to us."

Oliver and Zoro grabbed the cage, causing them to start losing more blood.

"Let's go already!"

The smoke curtain still lingered, so they ran and began jumping across the rooftops, getting as far from the bar as possible.

As they ran, they could hear the pirates yelling about how they had escaped.

They placed the cage on a rooftop, causing Luffy to hit his head.

"Damn it! If only I could get out of here," Luffy said, trying to break free.

"That Buggy is dangerous. If we meet again, I'll finish him off," Zoro said while holding his wound.

"Next time, we should hit him with our fists instead of a sword," Oliver said. "Was the cut deep?"

"Yeah. It won't stop bleeding," Zoro replied. "And what happened to you? You got lost and showed up like that."

"ME? LOST?!" Oliver said, slightly irritated.

Oliver was bleeding from his head, his clothes were torn, and he had a few burns.

"That bastard Buggy fired one of his cannonballs, and I was right in its path," Oliver said. 'I was lucky that the Gacha Machine worked as a shield.'

"We need to get farther away," Zoro said.

"Yeah. They might find us here," Oliver replied.

Once again, they grabbed Luffy's cage and carried it away.

They walked for several minutes until they were far enough from the bar.

"I hope they don't find us here," Zoro said.

"I agree with that," Oliver said.

Both of them were dragging the cage while Luffy tried to break it with his teeth.

"We need to get you out of there," Zoro said.

"Yeah. If I don't get out, I won't be able to do anything if they find us," Luffy said.

Just then, Zoro collapsed onto the ground.

"I can't keep walking. And this won't stop bleeding," Zoro said from the ground.

"Let me see if I can do something," Oliver said.

Just as Oliver was about to try stopping the bleeding with an improvised bandage, they noticed what looked like a statue of a dog.

'Shushu. He's a pretty cute dog,' Oliver thought.

"What's with this dog?" Zoro asked as he dragged himself over to lean against a house.

"Are you sure it's a dog?" Luffy asked. "It doesn't seem real. Look, it doesn't even move."

"How would I know? Leave the dog alone and figure out how to get out of there," Zoro said.

Oliver started bandaging him, but then Luffy put his fingers in the dog's eyes, causing it to bite him.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!"

Luffy started fighting with the dog, which kept biting him.

"ARE YOU EVEN AWARE OF YOUR SITUATION?! THIS ISN'T THE TIME TO BE FIGHTING A DOG!!" Zoro shouted angrily.

Oliver left them alone after realizing he couldn't stop Zoro's bleeding, while Luffy was exhausted from fighting Shushu.

Just then, Nami arrived and saw them resting in the middle of the street.

"Are you guys having fun? If you fall asleep in the middle of the road, they'll catch up to you in no time," Nami said.

"What's up, Navigator?" Luffy and Zoro said.

"THERE YOU GO AGAIN! I just came to return the favor," Nami said, throwing a key.

"Look! The key! Did you steal it for me?" Luffy asked excitedly.

"It was a stupid move. Because of this key, I couldn't get anything else," Nami said, a little frustrated.

"Awesome! I thought I'd never get out of here!" Luffy said happily.

"Great. Now get out," Zoro said.

And in a split second, Shushu grabbed the key with his mouth and swallowed it, leaving everyone except Oliver in shock.

"YOU DAMN DOG!! SPIT OUT THE DAMN KEY!! IT'S NOT FOOD!!" Luffy shouted.

"HAHAHAHA!!!" Oliver burst into laughter like a madman at the situation.

"STOP LAUGHING!!" The three of them yelled at him.

Suddenly, Oliver stopped laughing and collapsed onto the ground.

"Hey, are you okay?!"

Nami went to check on Oliver and realized that he was asleep.

"HOW CAN YOU FALL ASLEEP LIKE THIS?!" Nami shouted.

"YOU LOT!! LEAVE SHUSHU ALONE!!" an old man suddenly shouted.

"Shushu?" Luffy asked.

"Who are you?" Zoro asked.

"Me? I'm the mayor of this town. That's who I am," the old man replied.

The man said his name was Boodle and that he was the Mayor of Orange Town.

With Nami's help, he took Zoro and Oliver to his house so they could rest.

He saw Oliver's head while he slept, and Zoro asked him to just let him rest.

"Is the dog's name Shushu?" Luffy asked.

"Yes," Boodle replied.

"Then why is he always there?" Luffy asked again.

"He's guarding the store. I just feed him," Boodle said, giving him a plate of food.

"Is this a pet food store?" Nami asked.

"The store belongs to my best friend. Ten years ago, he and Shushu opened it. It's full of memories for him and for me as well," Boodle said, recalling moments with his friend when he used to feed Shushu.

"Shushu is pretty hurt, and it's all because of the pirates. He hasn't let them into the store," Boodle said.

"The store must be really important if Shushu is risking his life to protect it. Why doesn't his owner take him out of the city?" Nami asked.

"He can't. My friend passed away from an illness," Boodle told them. "Three months ago, he went to the hospital and never came back."

"So this dog… has been waiting here for three months?" Nami asked.

"That's what everyone says, but I don't believe that. Shushu is a very smart dog. I'm sure he knows his owner isn't coming back," Boodle said.

Luffy just listened to the conversation they were having.

"Then why is he still here?" Nami asked.

"I guess it's because this store is his treasure, as it reminds him of his beloved owner. That's what I think," Boodle said. "I've tried to leave this town many times, but I can't leave him here alone. It seems like he wants to stay there until his death."

Nami smiled upon hearing the story, but they couldn't continue their conversation peacefully because they heard a loud roar, making both Nami and Boodle run away.

"They found us. Spit out the key already," Luffy said, but only received a bark from Shushu in response.

"There's one here!"

The man who had just arrived looked half bear and half human, and he was also riding a large lion.

"I am Mohji, the Tamer, one of Buggy's pirates," Mohji introduced himself. "Hahaha! Were you abandoned here? I feel sorry for you, but Captain Buggy is really angry. You've gotten yourself into big trouble."

"Are you wearing a bear suit?" Luffy asked.

"How rude! This is my real fur!" Mohji shouted angrily.

"Well, that's some ugly fur," Luffy said.

"SHUT UP! Do you think you're safe in that cage? It looks like you have no idea how strong I am!"

Nami and Boodle were worried about Luffy, who seemed to be provoking Mohji.

Mohji started boasting that he could control any animal, so he tried to do the same with Shushu, but the dog bit his hand.

"I thought you could control any animal?" Luffy asked.

"I don't care about that. I just want to know where Zoro and the one who hit my Captain are," Mohji said.

"I won't tell you!" Luffy shouted.

"FINISH HIM, RICHIE!!"

The lion pounced on the cage, destroying it and, in the process, freeing Luffy. However, he couldn't enjoy it for long as he was immediately hit, sending him crashing through a house.

"Everyone who stands against me will end up like him. Richie, let's go find Roronoa Zoro and the other one."

The lion started sniffing the food from the store and got ready to eat everything, but Shushu stood in his way.

Luffy got up as if nothing had happened and adjusted his hat.

"What a scare. He sent me flying to the other side of the street, but I'm finally free. Now I'm going to give them what they deserve and then convince Nami to be our Navigator," Luffy said with a smile, ready for a fight.
