On Baron Islands.
"Alright, Kei, we can proceed on our own from here."
"Alright, I'll come here and wait for you when the agreed time arrives."
Kei watched as Tom departed, then turned to look at the forest in the distance where the beastly roars never ceased, and finally turned his gaze to Tina, whose legs were trembling.
"This is just the beginning, and your legs are already turning to jelly. When we actually get in there, won't you just pass out from fright?"
Kei spoke.
"I-I didn't expect it to be like this! I thought I was prepared, but I never imagined it would be this terrifying!"
"Those horrifying, deafening roars! Each one feels like it's pounding on my heart, making it hard to breathe."
"Manager, have you always been adventuring in places like this?"
Even though Tina's legs were trembling in fear, she didn't forget her duty. She opened the recorder and asked.
"Pretty much."
"These roars sound scary because your instincts are subconsciously dreading those powerful creatures. But once you spend enough time in this kind of environment, you get used to it."
Kei seemed to feel nothing at all. Maybe it was because he was strong enough, or perhaps he had already gotten used to it a long time ago.
"Here, spray this on yourself."
Kei took out a bottle of spray and applied it to himself. "This spray is made from a special type of flower."
"It effectively repels small insects, blood-sucking leeches, mosquitoes, and similar pests."
Kei explained.
"Uh, I have insect repellent spray."
"That thing's not good enough. You should never underestimate these little bugs. Precisely because they are small, they're nearly impossible to guard against."
"Hunters who die from poisonous insects are often more than those who die from ferocious beasts!"
Kei continued.
"Alright! I got it!"
Tina shuddered and quickly followed Kei's instructions, spraying the repellent all over her body.
...
The two of them moved through the forest, and every so often, Tina would let out a sharp scream.
"It's just an ordinary snake; there's no need to be so nervous."
Kei reached out and grabbed a giant python from Tina's body, then pressed on a specific part of the snake's body, causing it to calm down immediately.
"T-This is considered an ordinary snake?! Manager, you have nerves of steel!"
Tina's face was pale, and her voice trembled as she spoke.
"I've told you before, you're not cut out for this kind of environment. This island has over two hundred thousand species of creatures. This is their territory."
"What we need to do is blend in with them, to become part of the island!"
"By the way, if you give up on the interview, I won't refund your money."
Kei casually hung the python back on a nearby tree. He didn't kill it, just calmed it down.
As he said, their goal was not to conquer the island but to integrate into it.
"I-I won't give up! I'm the famous Tina the Journalist!"
Tina summoned her courage again, following closely behind Kei, not daring to fall behind even for a moment.
"Manager, what are you doing with that leaf? Does it have some special effect?"
Tina noticed that Kei picked two leaves from a tree and stuffed them into his mouth.
"It's nothing special, just tastes good. It's like mint-flavored chewing gum. Want to try it?"
"Um, yes."
Tina nodded. The tree was a bit tall, so she couldn't reach the leaves and had to ask Kei to pluck two for her.
The moment she put the leaves in her mouth, a strong minty flavor filled her mouth, instantly sweeping away the fatigue from her all-nighter last night.
"These leaves are amazing! I feel so energized now!"
Tina felt like her legs were no longer sore, her waist no longer hurt, and she was filled with courage. Baron Islands? Nothing to be afraid of!
"ROAR!"
"I was wrong! I shouldn't have been so arrogant. I'm sorry! Sumimasen!"
The sudden gigantic roar immediately made Tina revert to her frightened self.
Kei couldn't help but burst out laughing, seeing her reaction. Hearing his laughter made Tina feel even more embarrassed as she lowered her head and followed him closely, her face burning red.
...
While Kei and Tina were exploring the Baron Islands, Binchotan had already prepared her meal. She didn't cook any dishes, even though Kei had said she could freely use the shop's ingredients.
But Binchotan knew those things were expensive, so just eating rice was enough. Eating rice alone already made her feel satisfied.
"Alright, itadakimasu."
Binchotan put her hands together and glanced at the other two sets of chopsticks and bowls on the table, suddenly feeling so lonely.
"Manager, when are you coming back?"
"No, I can't keep feeling sad! Right, I should go clean the signboard outside and sweep the entrance."
After finishing her meal, Binchotan began cleaning the store. Only through work could she forget the feeling of loneliness.
Ring, ring, ring!
Suddenly, the phone rang.
Hearing the sound, Binchotan rushed back from outside, picked up the phone, and answered in her soft, adorable voice:
"Hello, how can I help you?"
"Eh? Is Mr. Kei not here?"
"The manager went out. May I ask if there's something you need?"
"My scheduled pickup day is today. Can I come to get it?"
"Of course, the manager told me about it before leaving. Binchotan knows what to do."
After setting up a time with the other party and waiting for them to hang up, Binchotan put the phone down and continued sweeping the floor.
"Must work hard, and wait for the customer to come and pick up their things."
Little Binchotan stood at the entrance, waiting for the guest to arrive.
...
Back on the Baron Islands.
Kei and Tina encountered their first opponent that couldn't be easily avoided — the Baron Saber-Toothed Tiger. This beast was classified with a Hunting Level of 3 and had a ferocious temperament.
Capturing a Level 1 Gourmet Beast would normally require ten trained soldiers armed with firearms.
Theoretically, the Baron Saber-Toothed Tiger would need thirty trained soldiers with guns to subdue. But in reality, the difficulty was far greater.
Because you needed to ensure your bullets could accurately hit the beast, and that it wouldn't disrupt your formation before then.
"W-What do we do now? S-Should we run?!"
Tina was terrified and instinctively clung to Kei's shirt, completely lost on how to respond to the danger.
"No need. This guy is going to be our lunch today!"
Kei's hand condensed with Ripple Sword Qi, instantly piercing the Saber-Toothed Tiger's head. The Ripple immediately destroyed the creature from within.
He skillfully started a fire, sharpened tree branches into spears, and then cut the Saber-Toothed Tiger into pieces and skewered them for roasting.
"Time to eat!"
Tina snapped out of her shock. The Saber-Toothed Tiger, which required thirty well-trained soldiers with firearms to defeat, was killed in an instant! The Manager was amazing!
"Manager, didn't you say you were just an ordinary person? How are you this strong?!"
"This is nothing. Taking care of a mere Level 3 cub is nothing."
Kei thought about the future where there would be Level 100, Level 1,000, and even Level 10,000 monsters. At this moment, he felt nothing.
"So delicious! The meat melts in your mouth, it's tender yet chewy!"
Tina's face filled with bliss as she ate the roasted Saber-Toothed Tiger. She sat close to Kei, feeling safer this way.
"I heard Galala Crocodile meat is even tastier!"
Kei's mouth was already watering. He couldn't wait to try the taste of the Galala Crocodile.
