Chapter 28: Chapter 28
"Working on a construction site, huh? Not a bad job. Now that I think about it, my first bit of money was also earned from construction work back when I went to the Konosuba world."
Kei reminisced about how he earned his first earnings in the Konosuba world, working on a construction site. Unfortunately, it seemed like that simulation was part of a parallel world.
In that world, he never got to meet Aqua. What a pity.
"Manager, why is it so quiet around here?! This kind of silence is so unnerving!"
Tina looked around at the eerily calm surroundings, feeling that this kind of environment was even scarier than a noisy one.
"It means we're in the right place!"
"When high-level gourmet beasts reside in an area, other creatures instinctively avoid them. And on Baron Islands, the Galala Crocodile holds that kind of status."
Kei took a few more steps forward and soon found a river. As he approached, he noticed a dragging mark along the riverbank.
"What's this? Is it the trail of a snake?"
Tina stared at the enormous track, wide enough to fit several of her lying side by side, and asked in shock.
"No, that's the mark left by the Galala Crocodile's tail. Look over there. Aren't there some footprints too?"
Kei pointed to a spot in the distance where there were several footprints.
"This is the tail, and these are the feet! Just how big is this Galala Crocodile?!"
Tina stared at the marks on the ground, and after thinking about it for a moment, she realized that the Galala Crocodile must be frighteningly huge!
"It's called the Galala Crocodile because of its enormous size."
"Oh, I see."
The two looked at each other and then laughed. It was a silly joke, but for some reason, it felt so funny.
"So, what do we do next?"
"We wait here. The Galala Crocodile should show up again."
"How long do we have to wait?"
"No idea. One day, two days, three days... Maybe even longer. But hunting is all about patience."
"Wait patiently! And when the prey appears, strike immediately!"
Kei explained.
...
At the Gourmet Shop.
"Hello, little girl. I'm the one who called earlier. I'm here to pick up my ingredients."
A man in a black suit and sunglasses stepped out of a car and walked into the shop, speaking to Binchotan.
"Umm… Alright."
Binchotan thought for a moment, confirming that the man's voice matched the one she had heard over the phone. "Your items are ready. I'll take you to get them."
"Hey, you guys, go help the little girl bring the stuff out."
At the man's command, several of his underlings stepped forward, following Binchotan to the storage room at the back of the shop.
Inside.
"Hmm, fish, fish... Where is it?"
Binchotan was searching for the customer's goods, while the underlings looked around at the gourmet ingredients stored in the warehouse.
"Bread from the Bread Lion, a Level 3 hunting beast!"
"Meat from the Chakraden, a Level 4 hunting beast!"
"This... This is a Level 10 Boarbowl! Such high-quality ingredients!"
The underlings marveled at the contents of the warehouse. All these ingredients combined were worth billions!
"Found it."
"This is the one. You can take it away."
After searching for a while, Binchotan finally located the fish with crab-like claws.
"Oh, got it. Leave it to us!"
The underlings snapped out of their amazement and quickly split into two groups, lifting the massive fish and carrying it outside.
"The manager's goods are top-quality as always. I've already transferred the payment. If there are any issues later, feel free to contact me."
The man confirmed the freshness of the product and nodded with satisfaction.
"Okay."
Binchotan tried her best to remember the man's appearance, intending to inform Kei about this transaction when he returned.
After the man transferred the payment and drove away with the fish, Binchotan was once again left with nothing to do.
"When will the manager come back?"
Now that she had nothing to keep herself busy, loneliness crept back in.
...
Nightfall.
"Got it!"
"And not just one, but two! One Galala Crocodile and one Level 5 Swamp Snake. That thing doesn't taste bad either!"
Kei, who had been hiding in the bushes for a long time, saw the Swamp Snake and the Galala Crocodile emerging from the water and fighting each other. Without hesitation, he jumped out.
"Manager, you look so cool! Record it, hurry up and record it!"
"Huh? Where's my camera? Where did I put it?"
Tina looked at Kei, who had jumped out with a golden longsword already formed in his hand. His figure seemed so heroic, the golden sword lighting up the darkness of the night.
A mere human had rushed into a battle between giant beasts, but in an instant, the supposedly insignificant human had defeated both monsters.
"What a waste!"
By the time Tina finally dug her camera out from her backpack, Kei's battle was already over, and the golden sword had disappeared.
"Tina, tonight's dinner will be Swamp Snake. Let's grill it."
Kei cut the Swamp Snake into segments and started a fire to roast the meat. "The spices we collected along the way should be in your backpack. Hand them over."
"Okay."
Tina hurriedly brought her backpack over. Aside from her change of clothes, camera, batteries, and adventure tools, it was mostly filled with the spices they had collected.
Kei ground the spices into powder, mixed them, and sprinkled them over the roasting snake meat. Instantly, a delicious aroma filled the air.
"(╯▽╰) So good~~!"
Tina couldn't help but drool. Just smelling the fragrance made her mouth water uncontrollably. This was, after all, a Level 5 Gourmet Beast.
How delicious would it taste?!
When the meat was done roasting, Kei cut off a piece and handed it to Tina. "Try it."
"Thank you, Manager."
Tina placed the food into her mouth. As soon as it entered, she felt a smooth texture, almost like it was sliding down her throat by itself.
Then came a flavor similar to eel, complemented by the spiciness of the seasonings. It was absolutely delicious!
"So good!"
Tina exclaimed.
Kei started eating too, devouring the huge chunks of snake meat directly without even cutting them, finishing each big piece in just two or three bites.
The two spent the night on the island. The next day, they brought the Galala Crocodile to the agreed meeting spot.
Tom was already waiting for them. As they loaded the Galala Crocodile onto the boat, they started their journey back home.
"Amazing! I didn't think you'd actually manage to hunt down the Galala Crocodile. Huh? Did you get heavier?"
Tom keenly noticed that Kei seemed a bit heavier than before.
"Did I? I don't feel anything."
After hunting and feasting on the island, Kei had grown slightly stronger. Unfortunately, he couldn't quite tell what level he was at now.
But what did it matter? A mere Level 5 Galala Crocodile was nothing more than a one-hit kill to him.
"No mistake, I can tell at a glance how heavy something is."
Tom said as he continued steering the boat.
