Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 205: 12th Royal Mistalore Princess

Randal hesitatingly responded, "The Capital is that-a-way, good sir. Around 25 days of walking, 10 days by carriage, or roughly 600 miles away."

He pointed to the North. And that was good enough for Cassius, who vanished in the next second, repeatedly dashing through the spooky forest at thousands of miles per hour.

"What a weird Devil he was," Randal incoherently murmured before turning around and heading back out the way he came in. "Hehe… I can't wait to tell everyone about what I saw this time! They'll definitely believe me!"

They won't.

—15 Minutes Later—

FWIP!

Now arriving at the highest point of a hill overlooking a vast and prosperous city, Cassius settled on an overhanging boulder. Surveying the area below, he saw innumerable acres of lush green fields. Some fields were yellow, and grazing on the grass that grew in those fields were animals the likes of which he had never seen before.

A mixture between a giant lizard and a cow—it couldn't be said for certain, but from appearances alone, it sure seemed like it. Nonetheless, they were well over ten meters in length, with some even reaching as much as thirty meters. Moreover, there also appeared to be people of the human variety riding in wooden pagodas latched to the tops of their large, scaly backs.

That was another thing—there were only humans everywhere Cassius looked.

'This is supposed to be some sort of Middle-Aged world in a fantasy setting, right? So then where are the beastpeople and whatnot?,' he thought. 'Is this a human-only kingdom or something?'

Cassius was correct.

The Kingdom of Mistalore was strictly populated by humans. Immigration of other species, such as the Devils, was strictly forbidden, which was why Randal the Peasant reacted as he did. Even those with trace amounts of certain Bloodlines in them were often harshly persecuted and treated unfairly.

In a way, one could say that having his Bloodlines restricted was a blessing in disguise.

"Either way, I need to get into that city and find the quickest way to become a Nightmare Slayer," said Cassius, his feet already fluttering off the ground as he started his descent down the cliff.

—The Royal City of Mistalore—

As the Capital of the Mistalore Kingdom, the Royal City served as the city with both the highest luxury of living and the highest cost of living. There were tens of thousands of buildings scattered across the city that spanned a distance of dozens of miles. Moreover, at the very center of the city lay the crown jewel of the Capital.

The Church of the Land of the Beginnings. And right beside it—the Nightmare Slayer Training Grounds.

The former was a massive gold and white marbled temple. At the top front of the temple was a magnificent pure-golden statue depicting a man holding a large chunk of floating stone land.

The God of Beginnings and the Land of Beginnings—that was what the man as the statue and the chunk of land in his hands represented.

And yes, this meant that the Land of Beginnings was not spherical like the planet known as Earth. Rather, it was said to be an extremely enormous continent that stretched in all directions for who knew how many miles.

As for the God of Beginnings—to devout followers of the primary religion in this realm—he was the one who created the world and planted the seed that brought about all life.

More than 95% of the population were passionate followers or believed in the existence of the God of Beginnings. Thus, as opposed to Christianity or any other religions on Earth, it was a religion that vastly dominated the religious field.

Coming in at around a third the size of the massive golden temple and half the size of the huge, mesmerizing palace that sat behind it was the Nightmare Slayer Training Grounds.

These training grounds were where all off-duty Nightmare Slayers stayed while they weren't fighting for glory in the Land of Nightmares. Furthermore, it was the place where any aspiring Nightmare Slayers went if they wished to become official Nightmare Slayers.

The Nightmare Slayer profession.

The pay was good, the respect was better, and the fame even better. But for the sake of a high status and a higher lifestyle, there naturally came a cost. That cost being the high fatality rate, both to become a Nightmare Slayer and to continue living as one.

Within the bustling streets outside the Nightmare Slayer Training Grounds, thousands of people had gathered around the colossal colosseum. The traffic was higher than normal today for two simple reasons.

One: the Annual Nightmare Slayer Admittance Examination was beginning today.

And two:

"Have you heard?? There's a rumor going around that the 12th Princess is going to be attempting the Nightmare Slayer Trials as a preparation ritual for her 19th birthday ceremony in a couple of days!"

"The prodigal Princess!? There's no way such a rumor holds any grounds! Why would a lady of such illustrious status even bother taking the Nightmare Slayer Trials??? It doesn't make any sense!"

"You really don't know? The 12th Royal Princess is notoriously known for her… 'unique' personality. The point being that she's incredibly strong-willed! Though, to the King and his 1st Wife, she's simply… rebellious…"

"Isn't that considered treason, what you just said!?"

"Bah! What do you know?? I'm a full-blooded patriot! Rahhh—!"

Slipping through crowds of people having similar conversations was a hooded man. He wore the Shadow Monarch's Cloak, but because of the restrictions imposed on this world, the prominent shadowy effect of the Cloak had all but been erased.

"Make way for her Highness, the 12th Royal Princess of the Mistalore Kingdom!"

A boisterous voice suddenly boomed, causing Cassius to slightly lift up his icy blue eyes. Observing the beautiful figure that just appeared, his expression drastically changed.

'She's not… human,' he thought.

Her appearance, or at least the appearance everyone else was able to see, was that of a stunningly pretty girl with long braided snowy white hair and lightly shaded red eyes. She possessed a petite frame, had modest—not too small, not too big—breasts, and wore a black and red, partially armored kimono.

But overall, she just looked like any other extremely gorgeous human girl.

When, in actuality, she was anything but…
