"...You're a princess, right? Do you know what we should do next? For this Examination?"

Hearing Cassius's nonchalant question, Yuna shifted her serene red eyes toward his icy blues. "My status means nothing when it comes to the Nightmare Slayers. I know just as much as you do," she said calmly. "But if I were to make a guess, then I'd assume we just have to—"

Her figure blurred as she unsheathed a short blue wakizashi mid-air. Slashing out in a spinning motion, she lunged downward.

SHING!

"Esceeetch!!!"

A jagged black vine was viciously dissected, causing the large face of one of the trees to scream out in excruciating agony, its ugly expression twisting in anger and pain.

"—Kill them, don't we?" Yuna finished where she left off. Looking behind her shoulder, her stunning beauty shone under the moonlight glow—a sight which left Cassius momentarily breathless.

*Ding~!*

[You have a hard-on, dear Host~? I can see that little garden snake rising—]

The moment was instantly ruined by the annoying voice of the Idle Evolution System. Cassius clicked his tongue before resonating with the badass sword tattoo on his arm. A brilliant light flashed, and a sword as tall as an average human appeared. This meant the sword was at least six feet in length.

Yuna's eyes flashed with surprise when she saw Lilith. "You have a Slayer weapon?" she asked while dozens of young men and women were being shredded to bits by the Nightmare Treants. Both she and the man she was talking to seemed to treat everything around them with indifference.

In response to her question, Cassius said:

"Slayer weapon? Is that some way to refer to a bonded weapon?"

Yuna: "..."

Walking away from the tree monster she had made cry, she approached him. Once close enough to feel his breath mingle with hers, she looked him up and down a couple of times, then said, "You… you aren't from the Land of Beginnings, are you?"

"Arggh–! My arm!! Someone, please fetch my arm!!!"

"Is it your right one???"

"Nooo!!!"

"Then you don't need it!"

Ignoring the crazed ramblings of the screaming people around them, Cassius said to Yuna, "I have no idea what you mean. The Land of Beginnings has always been my home, same as everyone else. I just come from a very secluded area, thus some gaps in knowledge are present."

Yuna scrutinized his serious expression in silence. After a couple of seconds of listening to more blood-curdling screams, she nodded. "I don't believe you. But we all have our secrets."

Cassius didn't respond. He just stared at her until she turned away from him. She started to walk in a certain direction, and he walked in a direction adjacent to hers. They effortlessly dodged flying limbs and blood splatters while making their way toward two different Nightmare Treants.

*Fwoooop—!*

Their bodies sped up. Dodging jagged black vine after vine, they dashed. Once making it a certain distance away from the hideous tree faces, Yuna slashed her small katana one way and then did the same thing in the opposite direction, creating a blue flaming x-mark that hovered in front of her. Pushing forward with the small katana, the flaming x-mark shot forward.

SHINK!

The x-mark sheared through dozens of the black vines before colliding with the hideous face of the Nightmare Treant she was targeting. The x-mark attack was blocked by a blackish barrier that protected the face of the crying tree monster, but the barrier only held up for two seconds before cracking and shattering. Then, without anything obstructing it, the x-mark attack cut into the face of the Treant, cleaving it into four evenly cut pieces. The rest of the massive tree was also badly damaged.

After the kill was confirmed, a light black smoky substance leaked out from the desecrated Treant. The smoky substance zipped through the air at an extremely fast speed before entering the body of the apathetic 12th princess. She didn't resist.

OOOM…!

A slight fluctuation in her aura occurred as her progress in the 7th Apprentice Slayer Stage advanced by a small degree.

Following the acquisition of her gains from killing a Nightmare Treant, she shifted her curious eyes over to the Nightmare Treant sitting parallel to hers. Almost immediately, her brows raised as she saw a tree similar in size to hers—one that she couldn't even tremendously damage—tip over and knock against a different Nightmare Treant.

A handsome hooded man with a gaze as cold as the tundra sat where the tree was sliced in two. A black smoky substance, like what Yuna absorbed, also flowed into his body. However, unlike what happened with her, this absorption of the black smoke made Cassius's once non-existent aura rapidly form and emanate outward.

This event left Yuna feeling dumbfounded. If anyone else had been focusing on them instead of fighting for their lives, they, too, would have been at a loss for words.

"A Slayer awakening… But how is that possible?"

No matter how the 12th Princess thought about it, she just couldn't wrap her head around how someone as seemingly strong as him had yet to even undergo his Slayer awakening.

Hell, everyone here—and even the participants from previous years—had all undergone their Slayer Awakenings prior to taking the Examination! Whether through family funds or their own efforts, they were able to acquire weak or chained Nightmares to progress their Slayer Realm!

None in the history of the Mistalore Kingdom had been daring or stupid enough to take part in the Nightmare Slayer Examination Trials without first stepping onto the path of a Slayer!

It was simply preposterous to even consider such a ludicrous thing!

And yet…

What Yuna was seeing was unmistakable. There was no known way to replicate a Slayer Awakening, and there was no reason to do so in this perilous predicament. But then that begged the question:

How the hell was someone so strong not yet a Slayer!?

What was going on here!??
