Chapter 226: A Cunning Dragonoid...?
"Are you ready, Ice Princess?"
A playful voice broke Memphis's strained train of thought, forcing her to turn her head up and look at the sight that lay beyond a simple door. Inside the wide auditorium lay more than a hundred high-quality chairs, each one seating a presence that by themselves felt overwhelmingly powerful. And with all of their immense auras coalesced together, an aura amalgamation beyond mortal comprehension filled the seemingly restricted space with its suffocating presence.
This marked the first time Memphis personally experienced something as fantastical as this since joining the Earth Crusaders.
It was a feeling like no other…
"QUIET!!"
A booming voice cut off the flow of conversations happening between the various S-Rank Hunters gathered in the room. Memphis and her two friends found their seats to the side, where they were able to clearly see a total of five figures standing on stage.
The one in the middle—also the one who spoke up—was the strongest of the lot.
He was an imposing old man with a rugged, battle-worn face, his deep-set eyes radiating a cold intensity. His weathered skin was marked by a network of scars, each telling a tale of violence and survival. A prominent gash ran diagonally across his cheek, a testament to a life of conflict. His silver-streaked hair was cropped short, and his wiry frame, though aged, exuded an air of unyielding strength. Dressed in dark, practical clothing, his presence alone commanded respect and wariness, as if he carried the weight of countless battles in his steely gaze.
His name?
John Adams—Rank 3 in the World—the Battlemonger.
The three standing on his right side were also characters of immense standing in both the U.S. and the world. The first was a thin man with a long, whirly mustache and a monocle—Rank 9—Gentlemanly Saint. His special ability: Rapier Savant (S+++ Rank).
The pretty middle-aged brunette posing beautifully beside the Gentlemanly Saint was a drop-dead gorgeous woman known far and wide for both her beauty and her unique ability to change her size at will.
Barla—Rank 8—Macro Mommy. Her special ability: Size Manager (S+++ Rank).
As for the last one standing to the right of the Battlemonger, he stood just over 5 feet tall and carried a cane just as short as him. His back was hunched, and his eyelids were squinted due to the passage of time. Overall, he appeared as though the slightest wind current would be enough to send him into the afterlife for good.
However, with an antiquated, tyrannical presence as powerful as his, none were foolish enough to judge this book by its cover.
He had but his title as his name after discarding his birth name long ago—Rank 5 in the World—Tasmanian Bladedevil.
His name was fitting, for he carried four thin swords on his back, each one containing a presence capable of bringing a weaker S-Rank Hunter to their knees.
Not many knew precisely what the Bladedevil was like in battle—or why he carried four swords—but it was rumored that so little was known about him simply because… all who saw him fight were no longer alive to tell the tale.
As for the lone blonde-haired man confidently standing on the Battlemonger's left side, it was none other than Victor Rapido—the fastest man alive!
—Three minutes later—
Once all the S-Rank Hunters in the Earth Crusaders Guild were seated in the massive auditorium, the Battlemonger's deep, gravelly voice once more reverberated:
"We've gathered you all here today—regardless of whether you were raiding a Gate or not—for the sole reason of the unknown silver-haired dragonoid's attack on Russia."
"!!!" "!!!" "!!!"
"That news was real!?"
"I thought it was all a hoax! But with those rumblings a few hours ago… everything makes so much more sense…"
"Has an extremely powerful humanoid Monster actually escaped the Gates!?"
"Is the Mage Lord actually dead!? But that means… a World-class Hunter has—"
"Yes." The Battlemonger's voice silenced every agitated fellow in the meeting room. "This silver-haired dragonoid has been confirmed to be an extremely powerful… and extremely intelligent Monster that somehow escaped from a Purple-rank Gate. Could've happened when Oblivion's Threshold exploded, or it could've happened elsewhere. But the fact is that it happened. An intelligent Monster of immense proportions has been set loose on our world."
*Achoo!*

That "extremely intelligent Monster" cutely rubbed her nose before resuming her chase of a group of scared sh*tless panda bears in a bamboo forest.
"Yimin shall catch the black and white floofers! Don't run, floofers!!"
"Now, as I'm sure everyone is aware by now, this threat is one that could very well bring about the end of the world," said the Battlemonger. "Right here on this screen you will see multiple photos recently captured in what used to be the country of Russia."
*Click, click.*
Memphis and the other S-Rank Hunters watched with rapt focus as a slideshow flipped between increasingly worse images. The whole nation had been turned into an apocalyptic icy wasteland. Clouds of gray smoke permeated the air for thousands of miles, raining ash on the very few living beings who survived the battle between gods. Craters were scattered everywhere, each one containing the bones and dried blood of millions of Russians and billions of other living organisms.
By the end of the slideshow, the atmosphere of the auditorium had turned grim. Even Memphis's usually indifferent expression now had a slight frown—not because of the graphic scenes but because of how familiar that silver-haired dragonoid seemed. All images of her were extremely blurry, so it was hard to tell, but there was definitely something familiar about her.
'Do I know that humanoid Monster? But who…?'
Interrupting her thoughts was the clicking off of the slideshow. The Battlemonger's voice sounded thereafter:
"From here on out, every single one of you are to keep a watchful eye out for this elusive and incredibly cunning dragonoid. Tell all of your subordinate A-Rank Hunters as well; have everyone on high alert. At any moment, this unknown creature could catch us by surprise and kill some of our own."
