Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 864: Questions

The massive territory of the magical people seemed to have increased significantly. Rain's long run extended for a full day before he finally arrived at what once was their capital city, or what remained of it. The city lay concealed beneath a colossal layer of snow, nearly three hundred meters deep, shrouding and engulfing the once-vibrant metropolis.

As he surveyed the area, memories of the catastrophic event surged in Rain's mind even though he didn't see it. The landscape showed the scars of a cataclysmic eruptions thanks to the volcan dragons self destruction skills, evidence of the fierce battle that transpired. The city was now a desolate, frozen expanse adorned with craters and debris from the violent assault of numerous volcan dragons.

It was a haunting sight, reminiscent of the unparalleled devastation that had engulfed the capital, leaving behind an eerie and silent testament to the magnitude of the conflict that had taken place.

"It doesn't look like they tried to return even once," Rain thought.

Rain stopped a few times to check the dungeons along the way and he didn't see monsters that resembled magic people there… he didn't reach the final section of the dungeons, though, which was the same area where he found the beast people had turned into dungeon monsters. So, he wasn't one hundred percent sure that it was a fact.

"Did dungeons exist at your time?" Rain asked.

"I have already realized that you came from a similar period, so you don't have to pretend that. And yes, some people managed to create them, but they weren't complex like that. Some of us also tried to research reincarnation, but to fully test it, you had to die, so we can't say if they succeeded."

Rain could imagine someone inside the shield shrugging… that was a hard topic to discuss. In any case, Rain didn't research that and he was still reincarnated… he couldn't understand why. In his head, he imagined that the brainiacs from Earth from that period learned how to use magic fast and eventually they learned how to make dungeons.

He couldn't understand the reason for that since there was no system yet, most likely… so that only caused more issues than anything.

"When did you became aware of the existence of the system?" Rain asked. "I take it that you guys became relics before the system was created."

"Hmm, I wouldn't know,"

"You wouldn't know before or after I tossed you to the sun?" Rain asked.

"You have to help me here, buddy. Give and take, you understand that, right?"

"I am not going to help you on your revival, dumbass," Rain said.

"I guess that can't be helped, but as you should know, the dragons have others like me sealed and they can't destroy those relics, so you and your friends would benefit a lot from our powers."

Rain was very aware that the shield had the capability to read his thoughts while it was in his possession. This awareness forced him to be cautious and deliberate about his internal thinking process. While it was tempting to quickly maneuver the situation to his advantage, he was also mindful that disregarding the potential advantages the shield offered might lead to complications.

The shield's ability to access his immediate thoughts necessitated a strategic approach in his thinking. Rain needed to balance the impulse to immediately alter the circumstances in his favor with a thoughtful consideration of the inherent advantages the shield's insights might provide. It was really a troublesome situation… but not pain, no gains.

Rain realized that the relics, while not harnessing the corrupt magic associated with the sins, utilized a form of power that bore striking similarities. This realization forced Rain to exercise caution when dealing with these relics. Although they didn't directly tap into the malevolent magic of the sins, it still posed a potential threat that Rain couldn't afford to underestimate.

Additionally, Rain found something peculiar amidst this situation. According to the information provided by the shield, the dragons predated the creation of their current world. However, it appeared that the current dragons themselves were unaware of this historical truth. This inconsistency intrigued Rain and raised suspicions.

Even the relics, while potent and steeped in ancient power, seemed oblivious to the ancient origins of the dragons, a fact that left Rain contemplating the true extent of their knowledge and their motives.

The number of mysteries were piling up and Rain decided to write down his questions somewhere in order not to forget them. Each representing a piece of the intricate puzzle surrounding his world's mysteries:

Rain still was unaware of the enigmatic figure responsible for instigating the conflict between the humans, magic people , and beast people. Unveiling the identity and motives of this initiator held the potential to shed light on the origins of the strife that ravaged the world once more and led to its current situation. Another puzzle piece centered around the teleportation guy. Rain was intrigued by this individual's unique ability and sought to understand how they wielded such a remarkable power because he wanted to… that was probably why Rain will never awaken the contentment path.

The origins and genesis of the system itself remained covered in mystery. Rain was eager to delve into the intricate details surrounding the creation of this complex and all-encompassing system that governed their world.

Also, Rain was perturbed by the system's deliberate concealment of Earth's history. Why did it suppress the knowledge of their homeworld's past, and what possible reasons lay behind this secrecy?

Finally, Rain was particularly curious about the system's underlying motivations for trading knowledge and experiences for power. Understanding the system's intentions behind this exchange could potentially unveil deeper truths about its objectives and goals.

Those were the main questions… once he learn the answers to those questions, things will become less troublesome.

"My main goal now is to focus on why only the water dragons have been on the move for the past one hundred years," Rain thought.
