Infinite Potential System

Chapter 493: They're Here?!

The Professor continued, "Normally I'd test everyone at once to see how much their Mana Circuits have improved, but the Cultivator's Induction Tournament coming up in a few weeks, I don't want to ruin the surprise for whoever you're up against.

If you'd like me to evaluate your Mana Circuits, come see me after class today and I'll test you privately." he said before turning around to face the chalkboard.

A floating piece of chalk appeared and drew an elaborate diagram in a matter of seconds, the chalk returning to its original position when it was done. It was the same human figure that the Professor showed off on the first day, albeit slightly more detailed.

The Professor reached forward with both palms facing the chalkboard, then slowly increased the space between his hands while the diagram enlarged and zoomed in on the palm of the drawn human's right hand.

"I've already told you about Mana Points and Mana Veins, but to better understand your own Mana Circuits, you must break it down piece by piece." Professor Tenningbrew turned around to face the class, his body becoming increasingly transparent until one could barely make out his figure.

He raised his own right hand and faced its palm outwards, a series of blue lights appearing on his illusory hand in the form of tiny dots with thin lines connecting them to one another. They perfectly matched that of the drawn human's hand.

William's eyes widened in surprise not at the dots, but at the Professor's body itself. He recognized the Illusion Element at a glance, since both he and Atticus possessed the same Affinity. Not only this, but William could tell that Professor Tenningbrew's mastery of the Illusion Element almost matched his own!

"These are my Mana Points, and the lines connecting them are my Mana Veins. If you take a closer look, you'll see that the intensity of the light changes over time. That's because I am currently manipulating my Mana to cast this Spell." Tenningbrew said.

He continued, "Using what I taught you in the previous class, even if you can't manipulate all of your Mana Circuits, limiting the scope to just your hand should be achievable."

In the back row of the class, Jonathan Irisa raised his hand. "Professor, I don't understand. You said before that manipulating our Mana Circuits is very dangerous. If the Mana Circuits in our hands are different from the rest of our body, won't that cause a huge problem when we manipulate our Mana?"

The Professor nodded in satisfaction, "Good question, I'm glad you asked!"

He raised his hand slightly higher and additional lights appeared across his forearm, but they were dimmer than the rest. Additionally, the Mana Veins that connected the Mana Points to one another didn't reach the Professor's hand.

"These are my old Mana Circuits before I modified them. When I was a student just like all of you, I learned to cut off my connection from my hand to the rest of my body, supplying the necessary Mana for my Spells and storing it in my hand.

If you do this when modifying your Mana Circuits, even if something goes horribly wrong you will at most lose a hand. Does that answer your question?" the Professor finished his explanation while tossing a Tenningbuck to Jonathan.

The student nodded.

"Good. Now even if you've completely modified your Mana Circuits, I'd still recommend you try this method out. If you're lucky, you might discover an even better arrangement of your Mana Points. Some of my best students have even raised their comprehension of the Elements by doing this."

Everyone continued listening while Tenningbrew explained a few specifics of modifying Mana Circuits. Once he was done, he walked around the class while the students manipulated the Mana Points on their hands.

William was just about to start practicing himself when the System interrupted his train of thought.

-The Heavens have arrived in this Plane and are searching for you.

What?! I thought you said I had a month! There should still be more than three weeks left on your Quest!

William responded while anxiety welled up in his stomach.

There was no way he could deal with the Heavens in his current state. If he compared his strength among Cultivators in the Slightveil Plane, he probably was in the bottom ninety percent. There were countless individuals above the Ascension Realm, and who knew how many above that.

-Someone or something must have interfered with my estimate. Whether they did it on purpose, I don't know.

William started to panic, but he intentionally slowed his breathing to calm himself down.

Is there anything we can do? What are the chances that they find me?

-The fact that you're in the school's Dimension is probably the only reason they haven't already found you. Since I'm only A-Rank, I only know that someone is tracking you. I don't know who it is or how powerful they are.

Can you find out?

-The moment I know the answer, they'll have also found us. It's too risky to try. The only thing we can do is hope that they sent an incompetent tracker. No matter what you do, do not leave the school's Dimension.

William looked at the clock. There were three hours left until class ended, which would also mark the end of the school day. Three hours was nothing even to a Nascent Soul Cultivator; he doubted that someone infinitely stronger would feel that pressed for time.

Damn it! I never thought I'd be wishing for school to last longer!

William complained inwardly. He scrolled through his Status, searching for something that might help his situation, but it was fruitless.

Being inside the Dimension was both a blessing and a curse. He was hidden from the Heavens, but most of his Talents were useless!

While the rest of the class was focusing on improving their Mana Circuits, William spent the remainder of class thinking about how to hide from one of the most powerful forces in the Celestial Planes.
