Chapter 121: Chapter 121: Puerto Rico again
October 25th, 1992 – 8:00 AM
San Juan, Puerto Rico – Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport
As the warm Caribbean breeze drifted through the airport doors, Alex stretched his arms wide, inhaling deeply with a satisfied grin.
"Puerto Rico… I'm back again," he said, his voice carrying a hint of nostalgia.
Kimura glanced around the airport, nodding in mild approval. "Not bad. But I still think the Las Vegas airport was better."
Aoki scoffed. "Maybe, but I heard the views here are way better."
Ippo, who had been silently observing the surroundings, scratched his head. "I don't know about that… The U.S. was the first country I've ever traveled to. Las Vegas was incredible."
"Alright, let's go!" Takamura called out, waving his hand impatiently. "Coach is already in the car."
With that, the group walked outside, where a blue van was waiting for them. The moment they stepped out, the heat of Puerto Rico hit them, a stark contrast to the cool, air-conditioned airport. They loaded their luggage into the van before climbing in.
Once inside, Coach Kamogawa immediately turned to Aoki, his expression serious.
"Aoki, don't go to the beach yet," he warned. "The cut on your right eye might get infected."
Kimura smirked, taking the opportunity to gloat. "Well, that just means me and Takamura will go without you. I heard Puerto Rican women have some curves," he said, making exaggerated hand gestures.
Aoki's face fell, and Ippo, noticing his expression, smiled and offered, "Don't worry, I'll stay with you."
Aoki immediately turned away. "I don't need your pity, idiot."
Alex laughed at their antics, shaking his head. "Bunch of morons, talking about beaches and girls. I'm here to see the historical sites."
Coach Shinoda raised an eyebrow. "Didn't you already travel here with your girlfriend Mari? You even took pictures at most of the historical places."
Assistant Coach Yagi nodded, pointing at the silver cross pendant hanging from Alex's neck. "Yeah, and you even bought that couple's chain you're wearing right now."
Alex smirked. "It's different this time. You wouldn't get it."
Coach Kamogawa sighed and turned to the driver. "Let's head to the hotel."
Alex interjected, "By the way, he understands Japanese."
The driver, a stout man in his fifties with a noticeable beer belly, chuckled. "That's right. I understand Japanese," he replied in fluent Japanese. "I'll also be your translator for the entire trip here in Puerto Rico."
Ippo's eyes widened in amazement. "Wow! Can you teach me how to speak Puerto Rican?"
The driver laughed. "First, let's get you settled in at the hotel. Then we'll see."
30 Minutes Later The van pulled up to a luxurious five-star hotel, its towering structure overlooking the pristine beaches of San Juan. As they stepped out, the hotel staff immediately began unloading their luggage.
Takamura barely glanced around, having stayed in multiple high-end hotels before. Meanwhile, Aoki, Kimura, and Ippo looked around in awe.
"Wow… this place is on par with the Las Vegas hotel we stayed in," Aoki muttered, still in disbelief at their surroundings.
The group entered the grand lobby, where marble floors gleamed under the bright chandeliers. They took the elevator to the 57th floor, anticipation building as they reached their penthouse suite. Yagi swiped the keycard, and the massive double doors swung open, revealing an extravagant living space.
A huge flat-screen TV hung on the wall, plush sofas lined the room, and several doors led to private bedrooms. But what truly caught the attention of Aoki, Kimura, and Ippo was on the left side of the suite—a massive, square-shaped swimming poolinside the penthouse.
"Holy crap… a swimming pool inside the room?!" Aoki gasped.
Takamura, equally surprised, nodded. "This is new."
Alex smirked. "Looks like the money was worth it."
Aoki turned to him, his expression filled with excitement. "Worth it? This is definitely worth it! A pool inside the penthouse?! That's crazy!"
Yagi chuckled. "It's about ten feet deep."
Kimura, eager to test it, began pulling off his shirt.
Coach Kamogawa narrowed his eyes. "Don't even think about it."
Kimura froze, his shirt half-off. "Uh… why not?"
"Help us unpack first," Kamogawa ordered. "Then you can do whatever you want."
Kimura sighed, reluctantly putting his shirt back on. "Fine… Let's unload the bags first."
Coach Shinoda rubbed his forehead and sighed at their antics.
Alex leaned against the couch, smirking. "You three," he said, pointing at Ippo, Aoki, and Kimura, "are champions now. You should act like it. You should follow my example—I'm the perfect role model for the future generations."
Ippo blinked at him, unimpressed. "But we're both 19. Why are you acting like a 30-year-old man?"
Takamura, Aoki, and Kimura immediately burst into laughter.
Takamura slapped Alex on the back. "Never mind this guy!"
Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium, Puerto Rico
The sun shined brightly over the bustling stadium, where workers prepared for the upcoming mega-event. The camera panned across the front entrance, capturing the energy of the scene before settling on a news reporter.
"Hello, everyone! I'm David, reporting for Fox News, and we're here at the front of Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium, where one of the most anticipated boxing events of the year will take place on November 6th!" David announced with enthusiasm. "We have two special guests with us today, and let's meet them now!"
The camera switched to focus on Rafael Ruelas, a young Mexican fighter standing confidently in a stylish suit.
"This is Rafael Ruelas," David continued. "He is
currently ranked number 7 in the lightweight division and will be facing ranked number 4, Jorge Páez, on November 6th in what promises to be an electrifying bout!"
Rafael greeted the viewers in Spanish, saying, "Hola, muchas gracias por tenerme aquí!"
The translator quickly relayed his words in English: "Hello, thank you for having me!"
David nodded before turning to the next guest. "And now, our second guest—a Mexican fighter who needs no introduction. He is the current WBA Featherweight Champion and the number 3 pound-for-pound boxer in the world—Ricardo Martínez!"
The camera focused on Ricardo, who simply waved at the camera with a composed, almost regal presence.
David smiled and turned back to Rafael. "Alright, let's start with you, Rafael. What should boxing fans around the world expect from your fight against Jorge Páez on November 6th?"
The translator relayed the question in Spanish, and Rafael confidently responded in his native tongue:
"A todos mis fans en el mundo que estarán viendo, en noviembre 6 voy a ganar esta pelea y dar una gran actuación para todos ustedes!"
The translator immediately translated for the audience: "To my fans around the world watching this, on November 6th, I will win this fight and put on a great performance for everyone!"
David nodded. "I wish you the best, sir. Now, what are your thoughts on the main event—where the current WBC and WBA Lightweight Champion, Marcus Rosario, looks to defend his titles for the sixth time and unify the belts against the WBO Champion, Alex Makunouchi?"
The translator relayed the question, and Rafael took a momenkt before answering.
"He escuchado mucho revuelo sobre Alex últimamente. Dicen que es el mejor prodigio que el mundo del boxeo ha visto… mejor que Ricardo."
As Rafael finished speaking, he briefly pointed at Ricardo, a small smirk forming on his lips. The words "better than Ricardo" immediately caught everyone's attention.
The translator's voice echoed the statement in English: "I've heard tons of hype for Alex lately. They say he's the best prodigy the boxing world has ever seen—better than Ricardo."
Ricardo remained motionless, his expression unreadable.
Rafael continued, his voice carrying confidence. "Después de todo, Alex rompió el récord de Ricardo como el campeón mundial más joven a los 19 años."
The translator relayed: "After all, Alex broke Ricardo's record as the youngest world champion at just 19 years old."
A brief pause settled between them before Rafael finally added:
"Pero creo con todo mi corazón que Marcus derribará el tren de la exageración de Alex."
"But I believe with all my heart that Marcus will knock Alex's hype train down."
David's eyes widened, taken aback by the bold statement. "That's… a strong prediction against the WBO Champion, Alex Makunouchi."
He then turned to Ricardo Martínez, handing him the microphone. "Ricardo, are you here to support Rafael in his fight?"
The translator repeated the question, and Ricardo finally spoke in Spanish, his tone calm but firm.
"Sí, pero principalmente estoy aquí para ver al número 2 libra por libra del mundo, Marcus Rosario. Quiero ver si es mejor que yo o cuánto es la diferencia de nivel entre nosotros."
The translator's voice carried his words in English:
"Yes, but mainly, I'm here to see the number 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Marcus Rosario. I want to see if he's better than me or how much of a skill gap there is between us."
David raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "And what's your opinion on Marcus? Can he successfully defend his titles against Alex?"
After the translator relayed the question, Ricardo simply crossed his arms and responded coolly:
"Lo veremos el 6 de noviembre."
"We will see on November 6th."
David turned back to the camera, his voice full of excitement. "Well, there you have it, folks! Strong words from two of Mexico's finest fighters! Will Marcus Rosario solidify his legacy, or will Alex Makunouchi prove that he's the future of boxing? November 6th is set to be an unforgettable night! Stay tuned!"
The camera's red light flickered off, signaling the end of the segment.
Note: does any one of you know how to do a voting polls here?, because I've been thinking if i would include the boxer in this story I cannot I realize nerfed gaolang template forever. Instead i need to put some competition's, if there is some know how to create a voting polls comment it here so readers can decide if they would like to see alex have some real challenge or not.
I can even make aaron as the final boss thats fair fight 100% gaolang template (anime version) vs aaron tide wtf i cannot even imagine this shit. Since most of the comments wants alex to be heavyweight either way. I can make that work timeline wise, its 1992 now and i can make a scenario were few years later like 2010 age (37) to nerfed him or make it even earlier like 2000 alex peak age (27).
The division will be stacked by then but i do need help or suggestions tho if you want me to make the story like this because I forgot a lot of details and you can help me improve a lor by pointing it out.
