Chapter 289: Chapter 290
"The Ten-Tails Jinchuriki has returned once more."
Black Zetsu's gaze was complicated as he watched the two Gensou figures in the distance. Both were clad in white robes adorned with black tomoe, their white hair flowing to their waists, surrounded by floating Truth-Seeking Balls.
"If this were the real world, my mother's return would simply be a matter of time," he murmured.
But here, such a feat was impossible.
While the Infinite Tsukuyomi world mirrored reality in many aspects, it couldn't replicate certain entities—his mother, and even himself, among them.
On the Battlefield
As a partial Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, Gensou could feel the immense power coursing through him—a force that seemed to elevate him to a new level.
Yet as he tested it, he realized that while the sensation of power was overwhelming, the actual increase in strength was limited.
This disparity stemmed from the inherent restrictions of the Infinite Tsukuyomi world.
No matter how advanced the illusion, it couldn't replicate the true power of the Six Paths.
While he exhibited abilities associated with the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki—such as floating and mastery over Truth-Seeking Balls—his overall strength remained capped below the true Six Paths level.
"This explains why figures like the Sage of Six Paths, Kaguya, or even Black Zetsu likely don't fully exist here. Their essence is tied to the Six Paths level, and this world can't entirely replicate that. At most, they would be imperfect versions."
Nonetheless, the experience of becoming a Ten-Tails Jinchuriki and undergoing the physical, spiritual, and chakra transformations offered Gensou valuable insight for when he pursued the transformation in reality.
Turning his gaze to the other "Hagoromo Gensou," the real one could see that his counterpart had come to the same realization.
Seeing his real self's acknowledgment, the other Gensou chuckled wryly, shaking his head in resignation.
"What is illusion, and what is reality? When everything you see, hear, feel, and experience matches the real world, it might as well be reality," the counterpart said.
"While I hoped to take over your body and return to the real world, deep down, I wanted to believe this world was real. Otherwise, what would Haru, who keeps begging for ice pops, mean? Or Ruri, who's so earnest and responsible? Or all the people here, with their joys and sorrows?"
Gensou understood what his counterpart was trying to convey.
He too believed that Haru wasn't just a puppet of the illusion. Her genuine emotions had left a deep impression on him.
"Perhaps they weren't real before I arrived, but once I came here, they gained substance. Like me, they are individuals with their own emotions," Gensou replied sincerely.
Hearing this, the counterpart smiled bitterly and looked downcast.
"No matter how real it feels, when you leave, it all vanishes. Just like the power of the Ten-Tails—it's no more than an illusion in the end."
He had initially sought to use the Ten-Tails' power to defeat his real self, but mastering the power had only deepened his disillusionment.
This world was limited, and so was the Ten-Tails' power.
While he loathed admitting it, he now fully grasped the nature of this world.
His desire to fight dissipated.
Even if he wielded the full, albeit diminished, power of the Ten-Tails, he couldn't surpass his real self, let alone now, with half the Ten-Tails' chakra already stolen.
The counterpart sighed and retracted the power of the Ten-Tails, turning to his real self.
"You're also preparing to gather the Ten-Tails and become its Jinchuriki in the real world, aren't you? But that's not your ultimate goal. Kaguya on the moon is watching closely."
Gensou nodded.
His counterpart, understanding his thoughts without explanation, smirked.
"Infinite Tsukuyomi... to gather the chakra of the entire ninja world and achieve your own Kekkei Sōmō. It's a clever plan."
"Then, have you prepared your shadow?"
Gensou nodded again, acknowledging the foresight of his counterpart.
"Well," the counterpart said with a faint smile, "then let me help you. While I regret not being able to accomplish this myself, you are me. Helping you succeed is as good as achieving it myself. Let this be my final proof of existence."
With those words, the counterpart extracted the Ten-Tails from within himself.
At his direction, the remaining Ten-Tails chakra flowed into Gensou.
Gensou accepted the gift without hesitation. Already containing half the Ten-Tails' chakra, he effortlessly merged with the remaining portion.
In an instant, Gensou became the complete Ten-Tails Jinchuriki.
While still unable to cross into the true Six Paths level, he could now fully experience the state of being a complete Jinchuriki.
He quickly adapted to his new power.
Meanwhile, his counterpart, now devoid of the Ten-Tails, reverted to his original form. Though his injuries had healed thanks to the Ten-Tails, the extraction meant his life was now on a countdown.
He didn't look at Gensou again. Instead, he gazed up at the clear sky.
"What a beautiful world this is. Haru, Ruri, Hashirama, Madara... if only I didn't know the truth."
Gensou, noticing the situation, offered, "Do you need me to extend your life?"
The counterpart waved him off.
"There's no point. Use your time to deal with those two," he said, gesturing toward Obito and Black Zetsu in the distance. "Look, they've already fled far away."
