Chapter 30: The Dragonoid's Wrath 2
Kai staggered to his feet, his body aching from the force of the explosion and the weight of the debris. The once-grand hall of Soma's palace was now a smoldering ruin, its opulent decorations reduced to ash and rubble. Smoke filled the air, stinging his eyes and lungs, but he forced himself to focus. He had to get out of here—fast.
As he pushed aside a chunk of broken stone, a sudden shift in the air made him freeze. The temperature dropped, and a low, guttural growl echoed through the ruins. Kai's instincts screamed at him to move, but his body refused to obey. He turned his head slowly, his eyes widening as he saw the source of the sound.
Standing amidst the chaos was a girl—or at least, she looked like a girl. Her petite frame was clad in a black dress adorned with intricate purple armor that shimmered faintly in the dim light. But it was her other features that sent a chill down Kai's spine. A single crimson horn protruded from her forehead, glowing faintly with an otherworldly light. Behind her, massive purple wings stretched out, their edges crackling with energy. Her eyes, a deep, molten gold, burned with a fury that seemed to set the very air on fire.
"Milim Nava," Kai whispered, the name slipping from his lips before he even realized it. He had heard the legends—tales of a dragonoid whose power rivaled that of the gods. But seeing her in person was something else entirely. She radiated an aura of raw, untamed energy, her very presence threatening to crush him where he stood.
Newton's voice echoed in his mind, calm but urgent.
\*\*\[Unique Skill: Newton is analyzing the target. Warning: Subject possesses an overwhelming concentration of magicules. Threat level: Catastrophic. Proceed with extreme caution.\]\*\*
Kai didn't need Newton to tell him how dangerous Milim was. The destruction around him was proof enough. The palace, the city—everything was being reduced to rubble as Milim rampaged through the streets. Her movements were erratic, her attacks indiscriminate. She wasn't just fighting; she was unleashing her rage on everything in sight.
Kai ducked behind a shattered pillar as a blast of energy tore through the air, obliterating what remained of the palace's eastern wing. The ground shook violently, and the sound of collapsing buildings echoed in the distance. He peeked out from his cover, his mind racing. What could he do against something like this? Even with all his skills, he was hopelessly outmatched.
Newton's voice interrupted his thoughts.
\*\*\[Analysis complete. Subject identified as Milim Nava, a True Dragonoid. Abilities include but are not limited to: Dragon's Breath, Energy Manipulation, and Enhanced Physical Capabilities. Threat level remains catastrophic. Recommendation: Evacuate immediately.\]\*\*
Kai clenched his fists, his frustration boiling over. "Evacuate? And leave everyone here to die? No. There has to be another way."
As if sensing his defiance, Milim turned her gaze toward him. Her golden eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, the world seemed to stand still. Then, with a roar that shook the heavens, she launched herself into the air, her wings carrying her high above the ruins. Kai barely had time to react before she unleashed a devastating blast of energy, aimed directly at him.
The explosion tore through the ground, sending shockwaves rippling through the city. Kai was thrown backward, his body slamming into the remnants of a wall. Pain shot through his limbs, but he forced himself to stand. He couldn't afford to stay down—not now.
As the dust settled, Kai caught a glimpse of Milim descending from the sky, her wings folding behind her as she landed with a ground-shaking impact. She tilted her head, her expression a mix of curiosity and fury. "You're still standing?" she said, her voice echoing with an unnatural resonance. "Interesting. Most humans would have been vaporized by now."
Kai wiped the blood from his lips, his mind racing. He had to buy time—time to think, time to plan. "Milim Nava," he said, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at him. "Why are you doing this? What do you want?"
Milim's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, she seemed to hesitate. But then her expression hardened, and she raised a hand, energy crackling around her fingertips. "I don't owe you an explanation, human. But if you're so eager to die, I'll oblige."
Before Kai could react, she unleashed another blast, this one even more powerful than the last. The energy tore through the air, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Kai barely managed to summon his **Molten Aegis**, the molten shield flaring to life just in time to absorb the brunt of the attack. But the force of the impact sent him skidding backward, his feet digging into the ground.
Newton's voice cut through the chaos.
\*\*\[Warning: Defensive capabilities insufficient against current threat. Immediate retreat advised.\]\*\*
Kai gritted his teeth. "Not an option."
Milim smirked, her wings spreading wide as she prepared for another attack. "You're persistent, I'll give you that. But persistence won't save you."
Kai's mind raced as he tried to come up with a plan. He couldn't fight her head-on—that much was clear. But maybe, just maybe, he could reason with her. If he could figure out what was driving her rampage, he might be able to stop her without getting himself killed.
But before he could say anything, Milim's expression shifted. Her eyes widened, and for a brief moment, she looked almost… vulnerable. Then, with a roar of pain, she clutched her head, her body convulsing as if fighting an internal battle.
Kai stared, bewildered. What was happening to her?
