Chapter 14: Mysterious Letter
Ye Chen took the letter from Huang Bao and carefully opened it. Inside, he found a neatly folded sheet of paper. As he read its contents, a frown formed on his face. "Who sent this letter?" he asked.
Huang Bao sighed before explaining, "A few days ago, an elderly man came to the village looking for your grandfather. When I told him that Ye Hun had passed away, he seemed deeply shocked. He then asked to visit your grandfather's resting place, so I took him there. Once we arrived, he requested to be left alone."
Pausing for a moment, Huang Bao continued, "A few hours later, the man returned and asked if Ye Hun had any children. I told him that your grandfather never had a child but had a grandson—you. When he asked for a picture of you, I told him you used to visit every few months and might return soon. So, he left this letter for you."
Listening to this, Ye Chen suddenly understood why there was a fresh bouquet of flowers on his grandfather's grave.
Curious, Huang Bao leaned forward. "What does the letter say?"
Ye Chen hesitated before answering. "The sender wants me to visit him. He left his full address here."
"Oh, one more thing—I almost forgot!" Huang Bao exclaimed. "That man was incredibly wealthy. He arrived in a luxury car worth millions of dollars. You don't see that kind of car around here often! Even my annual salary as the village chief is just twenty thousand dollars. The villagers here barely make five thousand dollars a year, so seeing a car like that was a shock."
Ye Chen furrowed his brows. "Really? But my grandfather never mentioned having any wealthy friends or relatives."
"If you're curious, why not visit the address? You live in the same city now, after all," suggested Huang Bao.
Ye Chen nodded. "You're right. I might as well find out who this person is."
"Well, it's getting late, and I still have work to do," Huang Bao said, standing up. "Take care, Ye Chen."
After seeing Huang Bao off, Ye Chen returned to his bed and resumed cultivating. Initially, he had found it tedious, but over time, he grew accustomed to it. Though the longest he had cultivated was five days straight, it was still a significant achievement.
Aside from cultivation, Ye Chen dedicated time to training his body and perfecting combat techniques. He also studied how to forge spiritual equipment through a book gifted by Gu Xuan.
[Author's note: Forging spiritual equipment requires special materials. If the process fails, all materials are lost. Additionally, a forger must possess strong fire attributes and excellent control.]
As dawn broke, the sound of a rooster crowing signaled the start of a new day. Ye Chen opened his eyes and stretched. Before returning to the city, he decided to renovate his old home.
Much of the wooden structure had deteriorated with age, so Ye Chen ventured into the nearby mountain to gather fresh timber. Using his immense strength, he effortlessly cut down trees and carried the logs back. Since his house was isolated, there was little risk of anyone witnessing his extraordinary abilities.
The renovation took longer than expected, but when it was finished, the house looked almost new. To add a personal touch, Ye Chen carved intricate dragon motifs onto the pillars and walls.
By the time he completed his work, it was midday. Without wasting time, he set off for the city. Since he had no money on him, he decided to fly instead. It was both cost-efficient and faster.
What would have been a six-hour journey by road took him only fifteen minutes. Upon reaching the city, Ye Chen concealed himself with a protective shield to avoid drawing attention.
His first destination was his rented apartment. He hoped his belongings hadn't been discarded by the landlord. Landing quietly, he walked up to his door and tried to open it, only to find it locked. He knocked.
A moment later, a heavyset man answered. "Hello, can I help you?"
"Are you the new tenant?" Ye Chen asked.
"Yeah, I just moved in a few days ago," the man replied.
"I see. Sorry to disturb you." Without wasting any more time, Ye Chen decided to visit the landlord and inquire about his possessions.
The landlord's house was only a few hundred meters away. After a short walk, he arrived and knocked on the door.
"Just a moment!" came a voice from inside. After a brief wait, a middle-aged woman with heavy makeup and revealing clothes opened the door. She seemed surprised to see Ye Chen standing there.
Her eyes lit up as she scanned his face. She was notorious in the area for her promiscuity—often seducing young tenants who couldn't afford rent. For someone like her, the sight of Ye Chen was like a rare delicacy served on a silver platter.
