Journey to become a God

Chapter 42: The Mysterious Female Police Officer

The scene of Ye Chen's battle was now flooded with police officers securing the area.

It all started when a driver reported an accident near the city border. Upon receiving the report, the police rushed to the location. However, what they found left them utterly shocked.

A massive crack split the road, surrounded by shattered bullet casings. The bullets, instead of being intact, were flattened and dented as if they had struck something incredibly hard. The officers immediately began cordoning off the area and questioning the driver who had reported the incident.

"When I was driving past, I saw a black car stopped in the middle of the road, with this enormous crack in front of it," the driver explained. "I pulled over to check it out. When I got closer, I noticed what looked like scattered coins, but when I picked one up, I realized it was a bullet—completely flattened."

The officer taking notes looked up. "You said the car was empty?"

"Yes," the driver confirmed. "The door was unlocked, and the key was still in the ignition. It didn't make sense."

"Did you see anyone around?" another officer asked.

"No," the driver replied, shaking his head. "But when I looked further ahead, I noticed something burning in the distance. It turned out to be another car—completely engulfed in flames. That's when I called you guys."

After hearing the driver's account, the police launched an investigation. Their findings only deepened the mystery. There were a total of eight victims—though how they had died was unclear.

Tire marks indicated that one of the vehicles had been heading toward the crack, but the tracks vanished abruptly. The burnt car was found several hundred meters from where the last tire marks ended. Yet, there was no sign of an explosion, ruling out any conventional detonation.

Realizing they were dealing with an unusual case, the local police called the central office for assistance. Shortly after, two vehicles arrived: a black Jeep and a sleek Lamborghini.

The Jeep's doors opened first, and four men in black suits stepped out, their expressions serious. From the Lamborghini, a woman emerged—tall, poised, and undeniably striking. She looked to be in her early twenties, with an air of authority that immediately commanded attention. Without a word, she walked straight past the local officers and toward the evidence, examining the scene with a keen eye.

One of the suited men approached the police and flashed his badge. "We'll take over from here. Your task is to secure a one-mile perimeter and ensure that no reporters or civilians get through."

The officers exchanged glances before nodding in agreement. With a salute, they began setting up the perimeter as ordered.

Meanwhile, the investigation team meticulously gathered evidence. After a thorough examination, one of the suited men compiled the findings and approached the woman.

"Miss Luo, these are our preliminary conclusions." He handed her the report.

Luo scanned the pages, her brows furrowing slightly. "Burnt bodies in the vehicle… A fist imprint found on the car door… The vehicle itself was thrown hundreds of meters… Multiple bullet casings, and three victims with crushed ribcages. This isn't the work of an ordinary human."

The suited man hesitated before nodding. "Everything about this case defies logic. It's impossible for a regular person to inflict this level of destruction."

Luo closed the file and pointed toward a pile of ashes near the black car. "You missed one."

The man turned to where she was pointing and frowned. "You think…?"

"I can smell the blood in those ashes," Luo confirmed. "That was the ninth victim."

The man's eyes widened. "But there aren't any bones…"

"That's because whoever did this was powerful—far beyond anything you're used to," Luo said. "Only a high-level cultivator, possibly one at the Sky Realm, could burn someone completely to ash."

The suited man swallowed hard. He had encountered cultivator-related cases before, but this was on another level. "What are your orders, ma'am?"

Luo exhaled, looking at the charred remains. "Retrieve the bodies and run background checks. Find out if these victims were criminals or civilians. I'll report to the organization and wait for their decision on how to proceed."

With that, she turned and strode back to her car. Moments later, the Lamborghini's engine roared to life, and she sped away, leaving the team to handle the rest.

The investigation was far from over. In fact, it had only just begun.
