Chapter 52: Episode 52: The Light Guardians’ Wrath
The next morning, Ren, Sakayanagi, and Shigan stood at the gates of the Light King's castle, their hearts pounding with a mix of anticipation and dread. After days of grueling training and unlocking new abilities, they were finally prepared to face the ultimate challenge: the Light Guardians who protected the stone. These guardians were not like any they had faced before—they were intelligent, powerful, and well-prepared.
The air in the Light City was thick with tension. The sun shone brightly, reflecting off the white marble streets and golden rooftops, but the brightness of the day couldn't dispel the dark undertone of the battle they were about to face. Ren tightened his grip on his sword, the shadows around him stirring in response. Sakayanagi's blue flames flickered at her fingertips, while Shigan's ki energy pulsed, ready for release.
As they passed through the massive gates and entered the inner courtyard of the castle, the trio was greeted by an eerie silence. The grand, crystalline structure of the Light King's castle towered over them, its walls shimmering with an ethereal glow. In the center of the courtyard, standing in front of a large, ornate door, were the Light Guardians.
There were three of them, each dressed in gleaming white armor etched with golden runes. Their eyes glowed with an inner light, and their presence radiated power. Unlike the other guardians they had faced, these were not mere soldiers—they were entities forged from light itself, bound to the protection of the stone.
One of the guardians, the tallest of the three, stepped forward. His voice was deep and resonant, carrying a weight that made Ren, Sakayanagi, and Shigan freeze in place.
"So," the guardian said, his voice calm but authoritative, "you have come for the Stone of Light."
Ren stepped forward, his expression hardening. "We've come too far to back down now. We need that stone to save everything."
The guardian narrowed his glowing eyes, but there was no malice in them—only a cold sense of duty. "Many have come seeking the stone, but few have earned the right to claim it. You will not succeed where others have failed."
Without another word, the guardians began to move, their forms glowing brighter as they summoned their powers.
The battle began with blinding speed. The second guardian, a lithe figure who moved like the wind, raised his hand toward the sky. "Divine Arrow!" he shouted, and a spear of pure light formed in the air above him. With a swift motion, he hurled it toward Ren.
Ren reacted instinctively, summoning a wave of darkness to shield himself. "Obsidian Wall!" he called out, raising his hand as shadows surged up from the ground to form a protective barrier. The light arrow struck the wall with a deafening crash, piercing through the shadows but losing enough force to miss Ren by a hair's breadth.
Sakayanagi, not wasting any time, summoned her flames, her eyes glowing with blue fire. "Inferno Burst!" she cried, sending a torrent of searing blue flames toward the third guardian, a towering figure with an air of command about him. The flames engulfed the guardian, but when the fire cleared, he was unscathed.
The guardian raised his hand, his expression cold and unyielding. "Hand of the Emperor." A massive, glowing hand materialized above him, shimmering with golden energy. It descended toward Sakayanagi with terrifying speed and force.
Sakayanagi dodged just in time, the ground where she had been standing erupting in a shockwave of light and energy. "Damn," she muttered, her eyes narrowing. These guardians were on a completely different level than anything they had faced before.
Shigan, meanwhile, focused his energy into his fists. His body glowed with a radiant aura as he launched himself at the first guardian. "Ki Blast Barrage!" he yelled, sending a series of rapid energy blasts toward his target. The blasts hit the guardian, but he barely flinched.
With a wave of his hand, the guardian countered. "Wrath of the Lord." A beam of pure, concentrated light shot from his palm, slamming into Shigan and sending him flying backward.
Ren gritted his teeth, feeling the pressure of the battle closing in around them. The guardians were faster, stronger, and more coordinated than they had anticipated. He had to think of a way to turn the tide.
But before he could strategize, the second guardian appeared in front of him, moving at blinding speed. "Light Speed Destroyer," the guardian intoned, and in an instant, Ren felt a barrage of rapid, light-infused strikes pummeling his body. Each hit felt like being struck by a bolt of lightning.
Ren staggered back, trying to catch his breath. He could feel the bruises forming under his skin, his body screaming in pain. But he couldn't give up. He wouldn't.
"Rise!" Ren shouted, summoning his shadow army. Dozens of shadowy figures rose from the ground, their forms twisting and writhing as they surrounded him. He directed them toward the guardians, hoping to overwhelm them with numbers.
But the guardians were unfazed.
The first guardian raised his hand again, calling upon his divine power. "Wrath of the Lord," he repeated, and another beam of light shot from his palm, cutting through Ren's shadows like they were nothing.
Sakayanagi, seeing Ren in trouble, leaped into action. She summoned her blue flames and formed them into a blazing sword. "Blue Flame Katana!" she shouted, charging at the third guardian. The guardian responded with the Hand of the Emperor, but Sakayanagi was faster this time, dodging the massive hand and slashing at the guardian with her flame-infused sword.
The guardian's armor cracked under the force of the blow, but he didn't fall.
Shigan, regaining his footing, unleashed his own attack. "Ki Overload!" he roared, pouring all of his energy into a single, devastating punch aimed at the second guardian. His fist connected, and for the first time, the guardian staggered.
But it wasn't enough.
The second guardian smirked, his glowing eyes locking onto Shigan. "You are strong," he said, "but not strong enough."
Before Shigan could react, the guardian vanished and reappeared behind him, striking with another Light Speed Destroyer. Shigan cried out in pain as the blows landed, each one sending shockwaves through his body.
Ren, seeing his friends in danger, felt something snap inside him. He couldn't let them lose here. Not after everything they had been through.
With a roar, he summoned the full force of his Soulbound Conqueror perk, calling forth the strongest shadows in his army. "Tank! Raven! Spear!" he shouted, naming his most powerful soldiers. The shadows materialized, towering over the battlefield, their forms twisted and dark.
"Attack!" Ren commanded, and his shadow soldiers charged at the guardians.
For a moment, it seemed like the tide was turning. The guardians were forced to defend themselves against the onslaught of shadows, and Ren, Sakayanagi, and Shigan took the opportunity to regroup.
But the guardians were far from defeated.
The first guardian, the leader of the trio, raised his hand once more. "We will not be defeated so easily," he said, his voice calm and unshaken. "You have proven yourselves worthy adversaries, but the Light Stone is not yours to claim."
As his words echoed through the battlefield, the three guardians began to glow even brighter, their power intensifying.
Ren's eyes widened in shock. "What... what are they doing?"
Sakayanagi, her flames flickering in the wind, shook her head. "I don't know, but it doesn't look good."
Shigan, clutching his side in pain, gritted his teeth. "We need to end this. Now."
But before they could make their next move, the guardians unleashed a devastating burst of light, sending a shockwave through the courtyard. Ren, Sakayanagi, and Shigan were thrown back, struggling to stay on their feet.
The guardians, now glowing with a divine aura, prepared for their final strike.
And just as all hope seemed lost, the sage appeared, stepping forward with a calm smile.
"You're not ready yet," the sage said softly, his voice cutting through the chaos. "Fall back. There is still more for you to learn."
Reluctantly, the trio retreated, knowing that they had no choice. The guardians were too powerful, and they still had much to master.
As they fled the battlefield, the weight of their defeat hung heavily in the air. But with the sage's guidance, they knew that this was only a temporary setback.
Their journey was far from over.
