Chapter 60: Episode 60: Lost in the Land of Terra
Ren's pulse raced as he glanced at his entranced friends and then back at the monstrous serpent. His mind whirled, searching for a way out. Closing his eyes, he summoned a dense, swirling energy, drawing shadows from deep within. A thick, shadowy smoke poured from his hands, cloaking the area in darkness. The smoky shroud grew and twisted, enveloping them and blocking Imkha's vision entirely.
"Umbra, retreat!" Ren called out, and within seconds, Umbra slipped back into the shadows, his form melting into the black mist. With one swift motion, Ren scooped up Sakayanagi and Shigan, who were still dazed, and darted through the veil of smoke.
Imkha hissed, lunging blindly into the darkness, but the trio had already vanished, slipping through the cover of Ren's shadow-smoke, escaping into the dense forest. Ren pushed forward, keeping his focus as his shadowy mist began to disperse. Soon, they were well away from the serpent's reach, hidden beneath the towering trees. He gently set down his friends, who were beginning to regain clarity.
"Ren…" Sakayanagi murmured, shaking her head as the illusion faded. Shigan rubbed his temples, a faint look of guilt flashing across his face.
"That was close," Ren said, exhaling deeply. "We can't take this kingdom lightly. The Nature Kingdom is far more dangerous than I expected."
Sakayanagi and Shigan nodded in agreement, glancing back toward where Imkha lurked, hidden now behind thick trees. The encounter had left them exhausted, their energy drained and their senses dulled. They needed time to recover, and quickly.
Ren took a deep breath and focused, extending his connection to the shadows around him. He sent over a hundred low-tier shadow creatures into the forest, ordering them to spread out and search for any signs of civilization or safe haven. As his shadow creatures dispersed, Ren guided his friends away from the dangerous areas, moving carefully through the woodland.
After hours of walking, a small shadow returned to him with news of a discovery. A village had been found deeper within the forest! Channeling his energy, Ren teleported the trio there, emerging in the quiet outskirts of the village.
As they moved through the trees, they stumbled upon a peculiar sight—a large, well-constructed treehouse nestled among the branches. Carefully climbing up, they found it was equipped with a myriad of tools, maps, and an assortment of supplies. Just as they stepped inside, a figure emerged from the shadows—a man with greenish tattoos that swirled like leaves across his arms and an aura that seemed deeply connected to the earth.
The stranger regarded them calmly, his eyes the color of moss, yet with a piercing intelligence that spoke of ancient wisdom. "New travelers in the Nature Kingdom, I see. You're lucky to have made it this far," he said, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "My name is Kaelen. I am an Ecodian."
Ren exchanged a glance with his friends. "Ecodian?"
Kaelen nodded, folding his arms. "Yes. My family line possesses the ability to read any ancient script, a gift passed down from the earliest guardians of nature. We are bound to the land itself, and though rare, we have an instinctive connection to the forest and its secrets. I am also a Terrainian, able to manipulate natural terrains to a limited extent."
Ren raised an eyebrow, surprised yet hopeful. "We've been looking for help, someone who understands this kingdom."
Kaelen's eyes sparkled with interest. "Well, then, you've come to the right place. The Nature Kingdom is not forgiving, but with rest and the right guidance, you may just survive your journey here."
