Chapter 213: Chapter 212: The Attack
Chapter 212: The Attack
It had been three days since Tonari and Minato wiped out the first town.
For the first two days, they moved from place to place, destroying town after town, reducing them to rubble, leaving one or two survivors to carry the news back to Kumogakure.
After two days, Tonari figured their destruction was sufficient.
They had not held back.
So, on the third day, the two of them disappeared—leaving only small traces behind.
Their goal wasn't to fight Kumogakure head-on.
They needed to divert their attention.
If they could lure out some of Kumo's top fighters, it would ease the pressure on Konoha's frontlines.
---
Inside a small, secluded cave in the Land of Lightning—
Minato and Tonari were researching the Flying Thunder God Technique, refining battle strategies based on it.
At that moment, Minato was excitedly explaining a battle tactic he had come up with.
"Tonari, listen to this! I throw a flash bomb to release intense light, blinding my enemies—making them think it's just a distraction!"
"Then—BAM! I strike before they even realize what's happening!"
"I've even given this technique the perfect name: Spiral Flash Super Round Dance Howl Three Style!"
Minato's eyes gleamed with excitement.
After all, the "Yellow Flash" nickname had originated from this very technique.
Tonari, however, was speechless.
…
It wasn't that the tactic was bad.
It was the name.
He, too, often came up with weird names for his techniques—
But there was a difference.
His were cool.
This?
This was…
"A bit too much, don't you think?" Tonari said dryly.
Cough cough.
"Look, Minato, this is a solid opening move. But don't you think your finishing attack is a little... plain?"
"Right now, you're just using regular kunai to finish off enemies."
Minato nodded thoughtfully.
"You've got a point. I've thought about this too. But here's the thing—"
"The whole point of my Flying Thunder God technique is speed."
"Fast enough that the enemy can't react."
"Using kunai is the quickest way to end a fight. If I stop to weave hand seals, that takes time."
"If I use a weaker jutsu, kunai might actually be more effective."
"And if I take too long, I could end up exposing myself to a counterattack."
Minato's explanation was logical.
Tonari had to admit—Minato had thought this through.
But still—
"Have you ever considered a different approach?"
Minato raised an eyebrow.
"For example—"
"Instead of using regular jutsu, why not develop a jutsu that doesn't require hand seals?"
Minato's eyes widened slightly.
"A jutsu… that doesn't require hand seals?"
"Exactly," Tonari continued.
"If hand seals slow you down, why not remove them completely?"
"If you can master a jutsu that can be instantly cast, it would completely remove the final weakness in your Flying Thunder God battle style."
Minato fell silent for a moment.
Then he sighed.
"A no-hand-seal jutsu… that's even harder than one-handed seals."
"It might take years—I don't even know where to start."
Tonari grinned.
"You don't. But I do."
Minato's eyes lit up.
"Wait—seriously?!"
"Tell me!"
Tonari then began explaining the details of a certain technique—
A technique he knew Minato would one day develop on his own.
"It's a chakra-compression technique. No seals. Just pure control."
As Tonari spoke, Minato's eyes grew brighter and brighter.
If he could perfect this jutsu—
Then his Flying Thunder God battle style would be flawless.
But then Minato paused.
"Wait—if you already have such detailed research on it, why share it with me?"
Tonari smirked.
"Because it takes time to develop a jutsu."
"With two people working on it, we can finish twice as fast."
"And if that second person happens to be a genius, we might finish even faster."
Minato laughed.
"You sly fox. Alright—I'm in."
---
As the two became fully engrossed in their research, their trap was finally sprung.
A shadowy feline figure flickered onto Tonari's shoulder.
His expression shifted slightly.
Minato noticed immediately.
"What is it?"
Tonari smirked.
"The fish took the bait."
"We've rested for a day. It's time to finish the job."
Minato stood up, brushing the dust off his clothes.
"How many?"
"Four. All high-level jōnin or above. What, you scared?"
Minato grinned.
"You know me better than that."
And with that—
Minato grabbed Tonari's arm.
In a blink, the two vanished from the cave.
---
They reappeared on a tree, marked with Minato's Flying Thunder God seal.
Below them, four shadowy figures moved stealthily through the dense forest.
"Four jōnin-class enemies."
"No sign of the Third Raikage's son, A."
"No sign of the Eight-Tails Jinchūriki, Killer Bee."
"This will be easy."
Tonari formed a silent gesture—one finger, then two.
One each.
Minato nodded.
Then—he vanished.
Tonari sighed.
"Damn, Flying Thunder God is just unfair."
Still—
With a bolt of lightning, he leapt down.
---
Below—
One of the Kumo jōnin turned.
His eyes widened.
"Lightning Release Armor?!
"Isn't that our village's technique?!"
The other jōnin narrowed his eyes.
"That's him—
"The Konoha Blue Cat."
"A stole our technique. Be careful—he's dangerous!"
The two instantly attacked.
"Lightning Release: Black Spot Panther!"
A black electric panther charged at Tonari.
"Lightning Release: Thunder Needle Rain!"
From above, thousands of lightning needles rained down.
Tonari narrowed his eyes.
His hand brushed his waist.
In a flash, his Chakra Blade appeared.
With a flick of his wrist—
Slice!
The panther stopped mid-charge—
Then exploded into static.
Above—
Lightning needles rained down.
Tonari's blade spun.
Each needle shattered mid-air.
The two Kumo jōnin frowned.
"His blade is too fast."
They drew their own weapons.
One wielded a long katana.
The other used dual short blades.
Seeing this, Tonari grinned.
"Finally—an actual sword fight."
The short-bladed ninja struck first.
CLANG! CLANG!
Tonari parried both.
The second charged from behind—
Tonari twisted his body—
CLANG!
Blocked.
"A good fight, at last."
And then—
In the span of a fraction of a breath—
The true battle began.
