Konoha's Tatsuya

Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Patrol Duty

During this chaotic night, Minato Namikaze's information was extremely limited.

It wasn't until the Fourth Great Shinobi War, when he was resurrected via the Impure World Reincarnation, that Minato finally confirmed Obito's identity during their clash.

As for Obito's motives behind orchestrating the Nine-Tails' attack, Minato, caught in the middle of it all, was completely in the dark. He probably couldn't even dream that his once-kind student, the one who always proclaimed his dream of becoming Hokage, had been twisted into the mastermind behind Konoha's attempted destruction, and that his first act would be to strike at the very woman who had cared for him like a mother.

Obito had four goals in unleashing the Nine-Tails' rampage.

First, it was an act of revenge, a raw venting of his rage.

The Obito of the past had been a good kid in Konoha, known for helping the elderly and valuing his comrades. Though not exceptionally skilled, he had been filled with passion for the world. However, his will had been utterly warped after witnessing Rin's death.

Obito now desired to create a dream world free of conflict, a world where Rin still lived. To him, the current reality was meaningless.

As the saying goes, the deeper the love, the deeper the hate. The more Obito had once loved the village where he was born, the more he now loathed it, and the more he loathed Minato Namikaze, the teacher who was "never there when he needed him," and his former friend who had "broken his promise."

Obito wanted to destroy everything.

Second, he aimed to capture the Nine-Tails and weaken Konoha's power.

The Nine-Tails was undoubtedly the strongest of the nine Tailed Beasts. Even after the Third Great Shinobi War, Konoha remained the strongest of the Five Great Hidden Villages.

By taking advantage of Kushina's weakened seal during her childbirth, Obito could not only seize the Nine-Tails, depriving Konoha of its remaining Jinchuriki, but also use his Sharingan to control the beast and wreak havoc on the village.

No matter the final outcome of this chaos, Konoha would, at the very least, lose its Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, a strategic weapon of immense power. This would be a severe blow to Konoha's strength and deterrent capabilities.

Third, it was a confirmation of his resolve, a step onto the irreversible path of complete darkness.

Much like Sasuke later, standing on a high vantage point, lost in memories and sorrow, steeling his determination. When Obito looked upon Konoha, the hatred in his heart only deepened, and he used the "slaughter" as a way to force himself not to turn back.

If Obito could cruelly target his most respected teacher and Kushina, who had treated him like her own son, then he could completely abandon everything else in pursuit of his goals.

He would stop at nothing to achieve his aims!

Finally, he wanted to exacerbate the conflict between Konoha and the Uchiha clan, hoping to reap the benefits.

In this, Obito was likely influenced by Madara Uchiha's will.

Madara's departure from Konoha had been partly due to the betrayal of his own clan, and he had always harbored resentment towards both the village and the Uchiha. No matter how nobly he presented his self-proclaimed values, personal feelings and grudges were undeniably mixed in.

By controlling the Nine-Tails to attack the village, Obito could clearly show Konoha's leadership the Sharingan reflected in the Nine-Tails' eyes, further fueling the long-standing tensions between the village and the Uchiha clan.

With the Uchiha clan being Konoha's most powerful noble family, any conflict between them and the village, regardless of the outcome, would inevitably weaken Konoha's strength. The Uchiha Massacre that occurred later was, in fact, a direct consequence of the Nine-Tails' attack.

Looking at the ultimate results of the Nine-Tails' rampage, Obito essentially achieved three and a half of his goals. The only one he failed to accomplish was capturing the Nine-Tails.

In that situation, after Minato defeated Obito, he was left with a rampaging Nine-Tails and Kushina on the verge of death.

Defeating a fully powered Nine-Tails without resorting to sealing techniques meant subduing it completely, an incredibly difficult task.

The Third Hokage and the numerous Konoha ninja had no effective way to deal with it, and even Minato would have struggled. Even if they had succeeded, Konoha would likely have been left in ruins by the Nine-Tails' rampage.

It was for these reasons that Minato chose, in the shortest possible time, to sacrifice himself and seal the Nine-Tails. He both secured the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki for the village and prevented further devastation and casualties.

At the same time, he planted the seeds of hope for the future of the ninja world.

Therefore, Tatsuya held the highest respect for this man, once considered by Jiraiya to be the Child of Prophecy, who was willing to sacrifice himself to protect his village.

If his strength allowed it, Tatsuya would have actively intervened, doing everything in his power to help the village resolve this crisis.

However, as a relative newbie in the ninja world, Tatsuya didn't want to, didn't dare to, and lacked the ability to interfere.

Facing a full-powered Nine-Tails, not yet split into Yin and Yang halves, and Obito, who could come and go freely with his Kamui space-time ninjutsu, Tatsuya's meager skills were utterly insufficient.

Rather than rushing to his death now, it was better to preserve his strength and prepare for the future.

Swish!

However, even though Tatsuya wanted to play it safe, things didn't always go according to plan.

A whooshing sound broke the air, and an ANBU member appeared at the Akimichi clan's compound.

Dozens of Akimichi clan ninja had already gathered in front of Chota Akimichi's residence.

"Lord Chota, the village is under attack! The Third Hokage requests that you immediately summon all clan members of Chunin rank and above to assemble at the Hokage Tower, ready to support the front lines!" The ANBU operative announced loudly to Chota, who stood at the forefront of the group.

Without pausing, the ANBU operative immediately vanished, leaping towards the nearby Yamanaka and Nara clan compounds.

Seeing this, Chota dared not delay. He swiftly gathered the Akimichi ninja and rushed towards the Hokage Tower.

Among the nearly one hundred Akimichi ninja, Tatsuya, recently promoted to Chunin, was present.

Boom!

Boom!

"The Nine-Tails is heading this way! Stop it!"

"Quick! Stop it!"

...

In front of the Hokage Tower, countless Konoha ninja were converging.

In the distance, the Nine-Tails' massive form wreaked havoc upon the village. Powerful gusts of wind, generated by its movements, blew from afar, stinging the faces of those gathered.

Under the bright moonlight, Tatsuya could clearly see countless Konoha ninja rushing towards the Nine-Tails, only to be easily swatted aside by its nine lashing tails.

The oppressive weight of the Nine-Tails' malevolent and immense chakra pressed down from afar, inspiring awe and fear.

Compared to the Nine-Tails, Tatsuya's summoned beast, Seiryu the Azure Snake, was clearly several levels weaker.

After a brief assembly at the Hokage Tower, the large number of Konoha ninja dispersed once more.

The vast majority of Konoha's Jonin were dispatched to the front lines to engage the Nine-Tails, preventing it from causing further damage to the village.

As a newly promoted Chunin, and to prevent further incidents or infiltrations, Tatsuya was assigned to patrol the village's perimeter, maintaining a state of alert.
