Chapter 106: ch- 106 tyranny
Luna used to dream of becoming a powerful mage and sorceress — that no has become the old goal for her. And now, her ambition has shifted. She still wants to master sorcery, but just as much, she wants to become a beast tamer. That's her new obsession. It's why she travels all over the Origin Planet, constantly looking for beasts around her level to battle and train with. Every fight is a chance to grow — and every defeated opponent becomes a new addition to her growing collection of tamed creatures.
Sounds smart, right? Like a solid plan? Sure, in theory. But in reality, it's chaos. Half the time, Luna gets in way over her head.
Just last month, she ran into a manticore. Thought it was around her level — she was ranked S at the time. Without checking, she summoned her usual companion: a small, yellow mouse that shoots lightning. The mouse zapped the manticore while it was asleep. Bad move.
The beast woke up enraged, and Luna realized too late: this manticore was peak Master rank. Way beyond her. So she did what any sane person would do — she ran for her life, sobbing, screaming for Solaria.
Solaria, her guardian beast and partner, had been trailing her from the skies. The moment Luna called out, Solaria swooped down and unleashed a roar so powerful it scared the manticore off. Only then did Luna stop running.
The thing is, this wasn't a one-time fluke. Stuff like this happens all the time. But Luna just shrugs it off. Keep pushing forward. She's reckless, stubborn — but she knows what she wants.
And as for danger, she let in on Solaris to handle with words like if you can't do even that then you are just a lousy bird no phoenix at all. frustrating Solaris for her word alone.
....
Out of my realm of thinking!!
I sighed, watching Luna's reaction before walking toward her and Solaria. The phoenix had regained some of her size—majestic as ever. Yes, that Solaria. The Fire Phoenix I once fought myself. And yes, I eventually entrusted her to Luna. She became both her companion and her guardian. Someone I could trust to protect that little troublemaker when I wasn't around.
As I reached them, I gently patted Solaria."You weren't too troubled by her today, were you, Solaria?" I asked, calm and half-teasing.
Solaria leaned into the pat, her voice warm and tinged with happiness as she responded.
"Not at all, Kallu. Her luck was good today. I didn't have to do much."
She sounded content—clearly satisfied just being near Luna… and perhaps, enjoying the attention too.
"Hey, Solaria! Whose companion are you, huh?" Luna asked, marching up with her cheeks puffed out in full offense. "Mine or the big bear over there?"
I raised an eyebrow at the nickname, but said nothing. Solaria tilted her head, clearly amused.
"And what's this about 'good luck today'? I'm always lucky, okay? Humph!" Luna crossed her arms and looked away with dramatic flair.
Solaria chuckled softly, the feathers around her neck shimmering with gentle heat.
"You're my little master, Luna. Of course. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy being patted by the big bear too."
Luna's pout deepened. "Tch… traitor bird."
"Hey! I'm a Phoenix, okay?" Solaria snapped, her wings flaring slightly as embers danced off her feathers. "Not just some bird!"
Luna blinked, then grinned like she'd just poked the exact button she was aiming for.
"Oh? Did I hit a nerve, birdie?" she teased, leaning in smugly.
Solaria narrowed her eyes, lowering her head until she was eye to eye with Luna. "Careful, little flame. Keep that up and I might 'accidentally' drop you in a volcano next time we fly."
Luna gasped. "You wouldn't!"
Solaria smirked. "Try me."
I watched the exchange with an amused sigh. These two really were a perfect match—chaotic energy and fiery attitude wrapped into one explosive bond.
"Alright, you two. Save the fire for the battlefield," I said, patting Solaria's wing again and nudging Luna with a look. "And you, don't provoke your guardian… unless you want her turning you into roast marshmallow."
Luna just stuck out her tongue. "Tch. You two are ganging up on me again."
"Heh… what's the matter, little princess? Don't like it when the tables turn?" I teased, reaching down to pinch Luna's nose.
She swatted my hand away with a glare, cheeks puffed like a squirrel hoarding attitude.
"Hey! No pinching!"
I chuckled, watching her cute little rebellion with amusement. "Well, like it or not, this is what happens when you gang up on me with your 'royal council'—your mom, Tessa, even Emma. Don't think I forgot."
Luna narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "You're getting revenge?"
I gave a wicked grin. "Exactly. This is justice. Cosmic justice." I raised my hands like a villain in some Saturday cartoon. "Bwahahaha!"
Luna took a step back. "Okay, you're the one who needs a volcano now."
Solaria, still perched beside us, let out a soft, melodic laugh. "Told you he was the real troublemaker."
The three of us looked at each other, caught in that perfect moment of amusement, before bursting into laughter.
"Hahaha… a-alright, enough already," I said, still chuckling, holding my side.
Luna was giggling uncontrollably, her cheeks flushed. "You started it!"
Solaria nodded with a warm glint in her eyes, clearly enjoying our antics just as much.
After we calmed down, the three of us stepped out of the inner part of the Endless Forest. Luna, still full of energy, ran ahead and climbed up onto Solaria's back.
She turned to shout back at me with a smug grin. "Last one home has to clean the house for a whole month!"
Before I could protest, she slapped Solaria's side and said, "Hurry, Solaria! We have to beat him!"
Solaria rolled her eyes—affectionately—and replied, "As you wish, my little mistress."
With a single flap of her massive wings, the air around us exploded into motion. Trees swayed. Leaves scattered. And then, in a blaze of flame-tipped feathers, Solaria launched skyward, tearing through the skies toward home—Luna's laughter echoing behind her.
"Heh," I began to smile as Luna and Solaria vanished into the distance. "You think you can beat me, little Luna? Think again."
With that, I disappeared from the forest edge—and reappeared moments later in front of our villa on the Universal Plain. I opened the door and called out, "I'm home, Mom! It's me!"
"Oh, so it's you, huh, son?" my mom replied from the couch, sitting with my dad. Right beside them was Fafnir, eyes glued to the TV, watching… some vampire anime?
Well—saying they were watching it is a bit of a stretch. It was mostly Fafnir. He'd been hooked on this show ever since he found out one of the characters had the same name and similar powers as him—just weaker, of course. Typical.
This lazy pup was always watching something, never doing anything remotely productive. I walked up to where he was lounging, picked him up by the scruff like a misbehaving pet, and said, "At this rate, Solaria and Luna are going to leave you in the dust, little guy."
He howled in protest, but his voice came to me telepathically as always:"Heh! They can dream of surpassing me. I'm already at peak World Building rank," he said proudly.
Then, with a dramatic shrug, he broke free of my grasp and leaped back onto the couch—stretching out lazily like nothing had happened.
"Don't bother me," he added, eyes back on the screen.
My father laughed. "He always talks big when Luna and Solaria aren't around. But the moment they are, all he does is stay silent. Silent and quiet as a mouse." hah!!
Mom chuckled. "That's just Fafnir being Fafnir. Oh, and by the way — where's that little brat? Didn't you go to see her first when you got back?"
"I did, Mom. She'll be here any moment."
"Oh, and Lunara?" she added.
"Wasn't she with you?"
"She just left a bit ago to go play. I let her be."
Just then, a loud whoosh echoed outside — the wind stirred by powerful wings. We heard Luna's laughter ringing out.
"Ha! We got here first, Solaria! Now Big Bear has to clean the house for a whole month!"
Solaria, just as amused, chirped in agreement. "Yes, yes, he will," she said — though her tone didn't sound too confident. Luna, of course, didn't notice. She giggled more and dashed toward the villa door.
"I'm so intelligent," she bragged, swinging the door open. "I'm here, Mom! Dada!" she called out cheerfully, hopping inside like a rabbit.
"Mom! Let me tell you something interesting about Big Bea—" She stopped mid-sentence the moment she saw me already sitting on the couch.
Confusion washed over her face. She tilted her head, blinking. "Big Bear? How are you here? Weren't you supposed to still be outside Verdant Haven?"
I smiled. "Oh, that? Don't worry about how I got here. Worry about how you're going to clean the entire house for the next month."
Her eyes widened as my laughter echoed through the room.
"I… I…" Luna opened her mouth, trying to come up with a comeback — but for once, she had nothing. No clever excuse. No wild argument. Nothing.
But this was Luna we were talking about. Giving up wasn't in her vocabulary.
After a second of deep, dramatic thinking, she puffed up her cheeks and pointed her tiny hand at me like she'd just found the ultimate counterattack. "You cheated, Big Bear! You're a cheater! There's no way you could've gotten here before me! That's against the rules!"
And just like that, we started bickering. Again.
It went on for a while — back and forth, like usual — until she finally, reluctantly, accepted her defeat. But satisfaction? Nowhere in sight.
With a little stomp and a big "Hmph!", she spun on her heel and stormed off toward her room, muttering something about unfair advantages and house-cleaning tyranny.
I just chuckled, shaking my head. She may be stubborn, but she's still my Luna.
