Chapter 46: Is the Dean trying on bully my little brother?
Rey opened the rankings, looking straight for the name that was above all else. But the moment he saw the name, he felt like he was in a nightmare.
"This is impossible..." he mumbled in disbelief. That name didn't belong to him. Instead, it belonged to someone that never should've been here.
The appearance of the name at the top rank felt like it was mocking him. That person wasn't even in the top five. How could he get first place? Unless he killed others from the top five, it should've been impossible for him to make such a large jump.
His gaze moved down, trying to see if the others in the top five were dead. He found his name at the second rank. The names of other rankers had moved down by one rank, but their names hadn't disappeared.
It made him even more confused. How did Elias take the top rank if the other high rankers were still alive? Even if he killed everyone in his domain within the last few seconds, it still wasn't enough to cover the gap.
There was only one other possibility that could help one take the top rank that appeared in his mind.
"No, that's absurd! There's no way he could do something like that!" he shook his head in disbelief. "It must be some bug! That's right. That must be why I don't see a score in front of his name!"
He tried to make sense of the situation, as Elias' name was the only one in the entire list which didn't have a score assigned. The section about their scores was completely blank for him.
....
"You Ashborns can never stop troubling me, can you?"
A portal opened in the sky. Before anyone could even step out of the portal, Elias felt a heavy pressure descend on his body. He tried to resist the force, but it was so overwhelming that he was forced down to his knees.
The Shadow Guards also went down on one knee, but their situation felt different. It was clear that they weren't forced down. They went down on a knee willingly, as if to welcome the one that was arriving.
The only person left standing was Seraphina who was looking at the portal in the sky. From the portal, a person stepped out, stepping on the air.
Elias clenched his teeth, as he looked up. The force had kept him pinned in place. It felt less like an accident, and more as if someone was intentionally trying to show him his place.
Looking at the sky, he saw the person who had stepped out of the portal. It was a woman, who he didn't recognise either.
Still, looking at the way that the Shadow Guards behaved in front of her, it was clear that she held a higher position than the Professors.
The woman came down, as if a fairy descending from heaven. She landed in front of Elias, her beautiful amber eyes observing the boy that she had only seen through the mirrors before.
She didn't even spare a second glance at Lilian's body, as if she already realized what had happened. Instead, she looked more focused on the Sniper Rifle in Elias's hands.
"That looks very interesting," she said, her voice seemingly carrying a strange charm. She waved her hand, trying to make the gun fly straight to her hands with her aura.
"Hmm?" She revealed quite a surprise as the gun simply refused to move, as if her aura couldn't even connect with it, unlike with Elias.
"How fascinating." She reached out her hand, grabbing the Sniper Rifle. "What an interesting weapon."
She tried to take the weapon from Elias' hands, but Elias resisted, not releasing the gun even as his body was being suppressed.
"It is mine!" Elias exclaimed, but the woman didn't seem to care. She forcefully snatched the Sniper Rifle from his hands, almost breaking his wrist in the process.
"Do I look like a thief?" she asked Elias, while observing the weapon.
She couldn't see through it at all. It felt like a very strange weapon, one that was at least a high-level treasure. What surprised her even more was that she couldn't control it.
She was curious how Elias had even gotten his hands on it. Did his father give it to him? No, that was unlikely. The way his father behaved, there was no way he would give the youngest something like this.
"I am just taking it so you don't hurt anyone else," she said, not even caring about the validity of the excuse. "I don't want you to go around hurting other Professors."
She was really curious about this weapon, especially the way it was made. She could feel a strange sense of familiarity with it, or at least with some material used to make it. It reminded her of the lightning that had killed her pet beast.
"It was part of the test! She told us that we had to kill her if we wanted the highest rank," Elias exclaimed, trying to stand.
He used every bit of strength he had, rising a few inches from the ground, but just as he was about to stand up, the woman simply waved her hand, making the pressure even stronger.
Elias came crashing down again, his knees hitting hard on the stone beneath him.
"I know about the test. I won't take your top rank from you. But you still can't be allowed to have a weapon like this. It's too dangerous. If you want it back, tell me where you got it from, and I might consider returning it," Freya stated, her voice still as carefree as ever.
"Dean, but taking someone's personal property is..." the Shadow Guard that had helped Elias tried to speak. However, he quickly closed his mouth when he saw the woman glare at him.
"I will send another Professor to take over your class and reward you according to your rank." Freya turned around, opening another portal as if she was already about to leave. However, she didn't forget Lilian's body.
Lilian's body started floating in the air, controlled by Freya's abilities. As she walked towards the portal, the body floated behind and followed.
"Is the Dean trying to bully my little brother?" Freya was about to step inside the portal to leave when she heard a man's voice that made her stop.
