Chapter 135: Part-time Job at the Park
Pulling out her phone, she looked down and saw that it was Mona calling.
Pressing the answer button, Reesi asked with a smile:
"What's up, Mona? Did you find any clues?"
"Yeah."
Mona, on the other end of the call, yawned and said:
"I found a hidden compartment under the floor of Ancona's kitchen with Lade."
Luo An, who was driving, lifted an eyebrow and asked with a smile:
"The compartment must have been filled with money, right?"
"Exactly, Ancona had hidden 80,000 US Dollars, a handgun, and more than thirty bullets in the compartment."
Mona answered from the other end of the phone:
"Not just that, I also found a neatly packed backpack in Ancona's bedroom closet, complete with clothing and some daily necessities."
Upon hearing this, Reesi turned her gaze towards Luo An and said:
"It seems Ancona had already prepared to leave New York after the explosion happened."
On the surveillance footage, Ancona answered the phone with a smile and waved her hands repeatedly upon seeing the car, it was not difficult to tell she clearly knew the driver.
Luo An nodded and said, "But she didn't expect that the other party would choose to silence her after the fact."
When Ancona fell from the gunshot, her face was filled with disbelief.
Thinking of this, Luo An tilted his head and asked:
"Mona, do any of Ancona's friends or relatives know or understand the identity of that driver?"
"That's exactly why I'm calling."
Mona sighed over the phone:
"Ancona has always been alone, and her relatives never heard about her dating any boyfriends recently.
But Lade and I learned from one of Ancona's female friends that Ancona has actually been moonlighting as a call girl for several years."
"Uh..."
Hearing this, a twitch formed at the corner of Reesi's mouth while Luo An frowned slightly:
"So, that driver is very likely a client that Ancona had serviced."
"Highly probable."
The sound of rapid keyboard typing came over the phone, Mona replied:
"The area where Ancona moonlighted is a park five blocks away from her house.
There are hardly any cameras there, I can't find out who all the clients she serviced were."
Moreover, when Mona and Lade visited the hotels and motels near that park, they found no records of Ancona ever checking in with other men, and the owners and staff of the hotels and motels all said they had never seen Ancona.
Therefore, Mona speculated that Ancona was likely getting paid to conduct business directly in the park.
After all, Ancona's moonlighting hours were at night, and there were no street lights in the park.
In pitch darkness, it was convenient to conduct business in the bushes.
Even if the police encountered them, Ancona could pretend with her clients that they were a couple out looking for thrills.
After hanging up the phone, Luo An and Reesi looked at each other and both saw speechlessness in each other's eyes.
However, Luo An wasn't worried, Ancona's lead might be at a standstill, but he still had the computer that Adam had handed over.
Upon returning to Investigation Unit 5, Luo An immediately passed the computer to technical staff like William.
After all, Mona and Lade were still on their way back.
As time slowly progressed, Luo An and Reesi sat at their workstations, looking over the content written in the emails together.
"Every night before I go to sleep, I no longer count sheep but imagine how to kill you, Councilman Matai.
The most effective method is to bomb you to death, then feed your shredded flesh to stray cats..."
After reading several emails, Reesi's face showed disgust:
"Dammit, this guy is really twisted."
"Exactly."
Luo An, next to her, nodded repeatedly:
"What did the stray cats ever do wrong?"
"..."
After a moment of silence, Reesi turned to William and poured him a coffee, asking:
"How's it going, have you found out who sent the emails?"
"Of course!"
William's fingers furiously tapped on the keyboard, and seconds later, he picked up the coffee and downed it, then smilingly displayed the information on the computer to Luo An and Reesi:
"Lindro Jacob, 34 years old, previously imprisoned for a year in Lex Island's prison for assaulting someone with a deadly weapon."
Gazing at the long-faced, bald white man on the computer screen, Luo An narrowed his eyes and asked:
"What's his current address?"
"Forest Hills, Queens."
Dragging the mouse, information slowly scrolled on the computer screen, William spoke gravely:
"However, the parole officer says Lindro Jacob is a violent guy and won't be taken easily."
Hearing William's words, Luo An raised an eyebrow and tilted his head towards Reesi:
"Contact the SWAT team."
"OK."
—
Forest Hills.
Two fully equipped SWAT teams slowly approached a factory building, the lead officer moved to the metal door with a riot shield, and after ensuring safety, tilted his head towards his teammates.
Seeing this, a teammate quickly pulled out a directional explosive strapped to a long wooden stick from behind and stuck it on the metal door of the factory.
A long yellow wire was connected to the directional explosive. The officer unspooled the wire while swiftly retreating back into the formation and then looked towards Luo An.
At this moment, Luo An was dressed in all black.
Holding a Glock 18, wearing a blast helmet, fitted with a ballistic vest, and his waist stuffed with five stun grenades, five smoke grenades, and a full ten extended magazines.
Except for lacking a rifle, Luo An looked even more SWAT than the SWAT themselves.
Reesi, clad in an FBI-standard bulletproof vest and holding a pistol, stood behind Luo An, her face...
In pain.
Seeing the look in the SWAT team members' eyes, Luo An didn't hesitate and said in a low voice:
"Blast it!"
Receiving the order, the SWAT team members immediately turned on the detonator switch.
Boom—
A deafening explosion rang out, the metal door was instantly blown away, and the lead SWAT officer instantly raised his riot shield and rushed into the factory.
"FBI!"
"GO! GO! GO!"
The factory was only lit by a few flickering lights, goods were piled up in disarray, and the terrain was slightly complicated.
Seeing this, SWAT team members immediately split into groups of three and rapidly began to search the inside of the factory along the small paths between the shelves.
Luo An, Reesi, and a SWAT team member formed one team, slowly walking down a narrow path to the left side of the factory.
Bang bang bang bang—
"We're in a firefight!"
"Cover me! Cover me!"
Just a few steps out, gunfire suddenly erupted from the west side of the factory, and the three immediately rushed towards the source of the noises.
Bullets flew from unknown sources, hitting the shelves and bursting into dazzling sparks.
Several SWAT team members quickly returned fire and yelled out:
"Assault team engaged!"
"Advance along the wall!"
Bang bang bang—
Having run this far, Luo An randomly fired two shots at a nearby location and, ascertaining that the enemy was not positioned there, immediately rolled behind a somewhat tilted shelf.
From this spot, aside from the second floor of the warehouse, many areas were in clear view. Luo An looked around, then loudly ordered:
"Team 11! Watch the stairs!
Team 3, Team 5! Flank them!"
"Roger that!"
The three squads immediately moved to their respective positions upon hearing Luo An's command.
Meanwhile, a white man hiding behind another shelf quickly raised his gun and pulled the trigger towards the direction of the noises.
Bang bang bang—
Bullets burst forth from the barrel, either hitting the shelves in front of Luo An or on the sides.
Reesi, seeing this, tensed up with a look of anxiety:
"Luo An!"
"I'm fine!"
Luo An's expression was unchanged.
His recent orders weren't just random chatter; those positions were on the enemy's side and retreat path.
Seeing SWAT team members closing in, unless the enemy was foolish, they would surely choose to temporarily leave the area to avoid the approaching SWAT.
