Chapter 182: The Car Was Smashed 10 Minutes After Getting It
"It's totally falling apart."
Perhaps scared, Louisa's hands were slightly trembling; her voice was no longer as proud as before. She carefully explained to Luo An:
"Triss got off work yesterday, brought two bottles of wine to my house.
As we drank, she started crying, talking about how she's under too much pressure, life is too crazy, she wants to die but is afraid to die, and all sorts of chaotic things.
Triss's words were disordered, jumping from one thought to another, but not delving deep, so I didn't understand much, and could only keep comforting her..."
Hearing Louisa's words, Luo An narrowed his eyes slightly, keenly catching a few key points.
At this moment, Mona walked over, giving Luo An an "OK" gesture.
"Thank you, Louisa, your words are very helpful to us."
Nodding subtly, Luo An led Louisa aside to sit down and continued asking:
"Do you know anything about Triss's personal life? Does she go to nightclubs? Does she use cocaine? Does she have a boyfriend?"
Luo An asked a slew of questions, to which Louisa shook her head repeatedly after hearing them:
"I don't know if Triss has a boyfriend, she has never mentioned these things to me.
But I know that she never does the things you just mentioned, she's always busy with work, like a robot..."
After asking for a while longer, Luo An finally handed Louisa over to Mona, asking her to write down everything Louisa had just said, while he himself stepped aside to call Reesi.
The call connected quickly.
"This is Reesi."
Luo An directly asked:
"What's the situation at Triss's company?"
"Nothing much, Triss's colleagues were shocked to hear she was kidnapped."
Reesi, standing under the cosmetics company building, took the coffee bought by Laid and nodded in thanks, then said:
"According to Triss's colleagues, her financial status is quite good, no debts.
She's a bit strict at work, but friendly and nice in daily life, I haven't heard of her offending anyone."
"What about the owner of the cosmetics company? What does he say?"
Looking down at the cosmetics in the apartment, Luo An was a bit suspicious of Triss's boss.
"It's not 'he', it's 'she.'"
Reesi corrected the error in Luo An's words, then said that the owner of the cosmetics company is a Caucasian woman in her late fifties, almost sixty.
"O...K."
Luo An's expression stiffened; he realized he had guessed wrong.
But this was also good news, at least eliminating a wrong idea.
Thinking for a few seconds, Luo An continued:
"What about Triss's romantic life? Did you ask about that?"
"Of course I asked, how could I, Reesi, forget about that?"
Hearing this, Reesi looked up and laughed heartily, then said:
"The owner of the cosmetics company told me and Laid that Triss broke up with her boyfriend a month ago.
But it seems Triss wasn't too heartbroken."
There really was a boyfriend!
Luo An raised his eyebrows:
"So, is her boyfriend heartbroken about the breakup?"
"I don't know."
If the owner of the cosmetics company doesn't know, of course Reesi wouldn't know either.
"Sorry."
Luo An slapped his forehead, realizing he had overlooked this point, then asked:
"What's Triss's boyfriend's name?"
Reesi did ask about this:
"His name is Loel Post, he's an architect."
"Excellent!"
Luo An's eyes lit up, immediately asking Reesi and Laid to go talk to this ex-boyfriend.
Hanging up the phone, Luo An saw that the forensic agents were almost done with their inspection, and was about to turn and walk towards Mona, when his phone suddenly rang in his pocket.
Pressing the answer button, the voice of William came through:
"We found the car."
——
"The murderer dumped that car in an abandoned factory in the Brooklyn District."
The black SUV speeded along the road, with Mona sitting in the passenger seat, tapping on the keyboard as she explained:
"The owner is an 18-year-old white boy named Quanter Wollster, with no criminal record.
According to the investigation by William and others, Quanter was at school at the time of the crime, and did not have the opportunity to commit it."
"Quanter did not report the loss either."
Luo An nodded and continued:
"That means the car was stolen by the murderer recently."
"Yeah."
Mona was slightly astonished, then looked at Luo An with admiration.
She could never keep up with his quick responses.
Turning the steering wheel, Luo An asked further:
"How did William and the others find this car?"
"Well, following your instructions, William and his team closely examined all the surveillance footage in the area near the crime scene, and finally identified a vehicle matching the description given by the informant."
Hearing Luo An's question, a look of envy and jealousy flashed across Mona's face, and she said:
"Then, William and his team discovered that the car was the latest model Benz equipped with a global positioning system, so they quickly located it in Brooklyn."
"The latest model of Benz?"
With a twitch in the corner of his mouth, Luo An turned and asked:
"And that 18-year-old Quanter Wollster didn't notice his car was missing?"
"Actually, he didn't notice."
Tapping on the keyboard, Mona pulled up Quanter Wollster's information, showed it to Luo An, and laughed:
"The car had been in Quanter's possession for less than 10 minutes before he accidentally damaged it and sent it to the garage for repair."
"Such driving skills... Cool."
The SUV quickly navigated through the traffic and soon reached the abandoned factory in Brooklyn District.
Garbage was visible all around.
In 2005, the federal economy was still doing okay, and there weren't many homeless people.
If it were three years later, in 2008, with the financial crisis, this area would instantly be filled with homeless people.
Stepping out of the SUV, Luo An surveyed the terrain and structure of the abandoned factory, frowning:
"It's really a good place for murder and dumping bodies."
"What?"
Hearing this, Mona was slightly shocked, but she paid it no mind and quickly walked towards the nearby Benz.
The car was carelessly placed amid various scraps of garbage.
Unsurprisingly, there was no one in the driver's seat of the Benz.
Seeing the trunk tightly closed, Mona immediately opened the driver's door, got inside, and started searching for the car keys.
Luo An walked to the side of the trunk, looked down, smelled it, and then turned around to leave the area, casually picking up an iron rod and beginning to search through the nearby piles of garbage.
With some effort, Mona who had successfully found the car keys, crawled out from under the car and, seeing Luo An's actions, furrowed her brows:
"Luo An, what are you doing?"
"Of course, I'm looking for Triss Perez."
Luo An continued his actions, explaining:
"As I said earlier, this is a good place to dump bodies."
As for whether Triss could still be alive, and perhaps lying in the trunk...
Considering the rapid movements of the murderer when kidnapping Triss and driving the car to this abandoned factory, Luo An believed that it was highly unlikely that the perpetrator would spare Triss's life.
"But..."
Hearing Luo An's explanation, Mona's face looked very distressed.
It made sense, but it was too blunt.
However, since they had already found the car keys, there was no reason to give up. Mona immediately went to the back, pressed the button, and opened the trunk.
It was empty.
"Son of a bitch!"
Mona cursed the murderer fiercely.
Turning her head to look for Luo An, Mona found him standing behind a nearby pile of garbage, holding the iron rod he had picked up, standing there dumbfounded.
Seeing this, Mona's heart skipped a beat, and her face suddenly turned pale.
She couldn't imagine what had caused the usually calm and composed Luo An, who never panicked in any situation, to show such an expression.
