Chapter 993 - 992: Missed Appointment
Chapter 993: Chapter 992: Missed Appointment
Shu Pan, following the address sent by Gu Shaoting, called for a car and quickly arrived at the destination.
Because Gu Shaoting hadn’t specified which room or the hall, Shu Pan thought that since he was driving, he should arrive soon too, so she decided to wait outside the restaurant for him.
However, after waiting for nearly 20 minutes and still not seeing Gu Shaoting, Shu Pan started to get nervous. Could something unexpected have happened?
It was at most a 10-minute drive from his company to here, and it had been almost 30 minutes since he called.
As Shu Pan thought about it, she became even more frightened and immediately called Gu Shaoting.
An incessant “beep beep” sound came from the other end, but no one answered.
Soon, the call was automatically ended.
Shu Pan furrowed her brows and then called the company. The secretary’s sweet voice answered promptly.
“Excuse me, could I speak to Mr. Gu? Is he at the company?” Shu Pan’s tone was somewhat anxious.
“May I know who is calling?” Xia Xiaoqiao answered the phone with some surprise. It was an external line; very few people used this number.
“I’m a friend of his. May I ask if he is at the company?” Shu Pan repeated her question.
“Well, Mr. Gu is in a meeting right now. If there’s nothing urgent, I’ll hang up first,” Xia Xiaoqiao said in a tone that sounded polite but was actually quite impatient.
The moment she heard a woman’s voice, she guessed it must be one of those women trying to latch onto Mr. Gu.
If it were someone familiar, why wouldn’t they just call Mr. Gu’s personal phone directly?
Xia Xiaoqiao always showed a cold face to such women.
“Alright, no problem, thank you.” Shu Pan, knowing he was at the company and that no accident had occurred, finally felt relieved.
If he was busy, then she would not wait any longer. Shu Pan decided to head straight back to the company; there should still be food in the canteen.
At this moment, Shu Pan felt both tired and hungry, as if the sky above her were spinning.
Suddenly, a black Mercedes-Benz skidded to a stop in front of Shu Pan, and the driver’s side window rolled down slowly.
“Shu Pan, are you waiting for a ride? It’s hard to get a car here, get in. Where do you want to go?” Lu Lei had just come out from a meal with a client and immediately recognized the familiar figure.
Indeed, it was Shu Pan.
“Director Lu… Director Lu, hello, I’d like to go back to the company,” Shu Pan said, no longer caring about formalities, as it was indeed difficult to hail a cab here. This famous restaurant was upscale, and its patrons were mostly wealthy individuals who arrived by car, which explained why she hadn’t seen any cabs for so long.
The fact that she was feeling both stuffy and hungry made her very uncomfortable.
“Get in, you look pale. Haven’t you eaten yet?” Lu Lei said as he steered the wheel.
Shu Pan stared out the window at the scenery rushing by before murmuring softly, “I’ll just eat something at the company canteen.”
Lu Lei paused for a moment, realizing it was her private matter and not wanting to pry into why she was there but hadn’t eaten.
“The canteen’s food is probably gone by now, or even if it’s there, it would be cold. Let me take you somewhere nearby to eat something before going back to the company,” Lu Lei kindly suggested.
“Okay, thank you, Director Lu,” said Shu Pan, her voice tinged with a trace of dejection. She didn’t know why, but at that moment, she felt an overwhelming urge to cry.
Was she becoming overly emotional simply because her husband had stood her up?
The car soon stopped at a quaint little shop that offered congee, noodles, wontons, and more. Shu Pan ordered a bowl of minced pork congee, urgently needing something to warm her stomach.
