Chapter 998: Chapter 997: Tremendous Good Fortune
Song Ying’s face turned white as paper upon hearing this.
Such an evident rejection, only an idiot wouldn’t understand.
Moreover, she hadn’t said anything excessive, yet Wen Chi had already shut her down completely.
She watched as Wen Chi’s long eyebrows were slightly furrowed, his handsome face betraying no emotion.
Her heart ached.
“Then some other time. You’re busy, so I’ll get going,” Song Ying managed to squeeze out these words before fleeing in a panic.
Just then, Li Jian happened to come out of the elevator and ran into Song Ying.
Li Jian walked over to Wen Chi’s side.
He raised his eyebrows at Wen Chi repeatedly, as if implying something.
Wen Chi ignored him completely and continued into the lounge on his own.
Following behind him, Li Jian looked him up and down and chuckled, “Wow, you lucky guy, which department is that female doctor from? How come I don’t recall seeing her? She’s curvy and ravishing, obviously interested in you. It’s just not fair. You’re already married, so why are you still attracting bees and butterflies?”
The more Li Jian spoke, the more sour his tone became, though it was all in jest.
Wen Chi snorted coldly and glanced at him, “Are you that idle now?”
“Not busy, haha.” Li Jian grinned, “Man, I’m really envious. I should learn from you sometime. Look at me, still single. Fair, isn’t it?”
Feeling the sharp gaze thrown his way, the rest of his words were stubbornly swallowed back.
Li Jian knew that although this man appeared aloof, he cherished his wife deeply, something Li Jian had witnessed firsthand during her last hospital stay.
Those who know the times are wise; it was better for him to keep his mouth shut. He didn’t want to get toyed with for no reason again.
…
Back in her department, Song Ying sat at her desk, feeling as if thousands of ants were biting at her heart. She was very uncomfortable. What kind of person was his wife?
She didn’t believe that woman could be better than herself. She was confident she was a thousand times better than her.
Her troubled expression caught the attention of Dr. Zhang from the same department, “Dr. Song, what’s wrong?”
Dr. Zhang asked with concern.
“Oh, it’s nothing. Just pondering some issues. By the way, Dr. Zhang, I saw Dr. Wen from the obstetrics and gynecology department in a rush earlier when I returned. It seems you are quite familiar with him…”
Song Ying’s words stopped midway, and Dr. Zhang quickly followed up, “He probably rushed back home again. His darling wife is rarely at home, so of course, he’s eager to return.”
“You know his wife too?” Song Ying said casually.
“Of course, there probably aren’t many people in the country who don’t know her,” Dr. Zhang commented.
Song Ying was taken aback, “Why do you say that?”
“Dr. Wen’s wife is none other than the top actress Gu Huanhuan. Who wouldn’t know her? Only those who don’t watch TV. She has won many awards for her acting,” Dr. Zhang said, his tone full of pride.
Song Ying was stunned, and then she frowned, “An actress? How could Dr. Wen like that type?”
Her tone was full of disdain.
“You’ve got it wrong, Dr. Song. First of all, Dr. Wen’s wife is different. She doesn’t act like a diva at all, and there’s hardly any scandal about her. Even if there is, it’s just the reporters making things up. She and Dr. Wen are very much in love,” Dr. Zhang said enviously.
Song Ying certainly knew their relationship was good; she had seen it when his wife was hospitalized last time. Indeed very delicate, calling for Dr. Wen to feed her even just to drink water.
Watching them, she thought Wen Chi looked exhausted. Had he married a wife or an ancestor to serve in such a way?
Now that she knew her identity, she looked down on her even more. Was she not just a woman who got by solely on her looks?
