Chapter 2: The Nature of Magic

The first time I saw my magic, I was mesmerized.

I held out my palm, and delicate pink petals bloomed at my fingertips, swirling gently in the air. They were light, weightless, yet I could feel the raw power thrumming beneath their fragile beauty.

It was strange.

The petals shouldn't have been able to cut, but when I flicked my fingers, one brushed against a training dummy and left a faint scratch. Not deep, but enough to prove a fundamental truth—this was not just a tool.

This was something greater.

Magic is truly fascinating.

And in the world of Black Clover, it's even more unique than one might initially think.

Generally, magic is seen as a force or energy that allows one to shape or change small aspects of reality. But here, it operates on a fundamentally different level.

How did I come to this realization? Well, I started wondering about something strange—why do so many mages in Black Clover have seemingly useless spells?

And why, when multiple people share the same elemental affinity, do their magic styles vary so drastically?

Take Luck, for example. His lightning magic coats his body to enhance his physical combat, yet he doesn't just shoot out raw electricity like a typical elemental mage. Or Magna—he creates a flaming bat to attack instead of just launching fireballs.

At first, I thought it was simply a difference in mana pools. Nobles and royals, with their vast reserves of mana, naturally use more extravagant and powerful magic. While that's partly true, it doesn't fully explain the variation.

The real reason?

Magic in this world is conceptual.

Think about the concept of freezing. If someone wielded the pure concept of freezing, they could freeze anything—fire, time, space itself. However, someone with ice magic can only turn liquids into solids.

Black Clover's magic works in a similar way.

When a child in this world awakens their magic attribute, they unconsciously form a concept of their element.

Much like how Bell Cranel in DanMachi imagined fire when receiving his grimoire and thus gained flame magic, the people here interpret their magic in specific ways upon awakening.

For example, if someone awakens darkness magic, their perception of darkness shapes its abilities. They might see it as heavy, weighing down everything it touches, or as devouring, consuming light and matter alike.

This means that two people with the same element won't necessarily have the same magic.

I clenched my fist, watching as the petals in my palm shifted—some solidifying into razor-sharp shards, others remaining soft and harmless. So it really does depend on perception…

Take Mimosa, for instance. She has plant magic, but because she visualized its concept as healing, her spells developed accordingly.

Then there's Asta. When he first obtained his grimoire, he didn't immediately gain anti-magic. Instead, he wielded the elf's sword, which could nullify magic—a trait mistakenly identified as anti-magic. It was only after forming a contract with his devil that he could truly use anti-magic.

But here's the thing: since Asta already believed his power was anti-magic, that perception shaped its manifestation.

His anti-magic coated his sword, and later, his body. If anti-magic were something he could inherently control from the start, wouldn't he have been able to use it with his bare hands rather than relying on a sword?

Only after training with Yami did he learn to unleash anti-magic slashes. That's further proof that magic in this world is shaped by perception and concept, not just raw elemental power.

Now, Let's Talk About Me.

The original Kirsch Vermillion had cherry blossom magic, which he conceptualized as beauty. That was the guiding principle of his spells.

For me, however, magic holds a different meaning.

I didn't consciously choose my magic's concept—it was something I realized only after my abilities awakened. But that doesn't mean I got a bad deal. If anything, my potential might be far greater than the original.

Most people in this world develop a single concept for their magic. A rare few manage two. An exceptional mage might grasp three.

But when I first awakened my cherry blossom magic, I instinctively understood something deeper. As I watched the petals form in my palm, a thought struck me—the Japanese symbolism of cherry blossoms.

In Japan, the sakura season represents renewal. Cherry blossoms symbolize life and death, beauty and violence.

And that… that became the foundation of my magic.

My cherry blossom magic embodies life and death, beauty and violence—a duality that grants me both destructive and restorative abilities.

This means that, unlike the original Kirsch, I am not confined to a single direction.

I can create healing spells, offensive techniques, defensive barriers, and even enhancement or decay-based abilities. But, of course, unlocking that potential will take effort, experimentation, and hard work.

Still, if I truly master this path…

I will become unstoppable.

Ever since I came to this realization, I've dedicated every moment possible to training.

I haven't started intensive physical training yet, but I make sure to do light exercises every day:

10 push-ups

10 sit-ups

10 squats

10 laps around the training hall behind the mansion

I don't know the exact distance of the training hall, but it takes me about two hours to complete my full routine.

As for my magic training, my progress has been significant.

I can now manifest cherry blossom petals instantly, with just a thought.

My first spell, ironically, turned out to be an illusion—the easiest aspect to develop.

By surrounding a target with petals, I can release a fragrance that induces confusion. Though calling it a full-fledged spell might be an overstatement, it happened accidentally while I was playing with Mimosa.

---

Speaking of Mimosa…

she was born three years ago, and she is the cutest thing ever.

I swear, I will always protect her.

There is no way I'm letting Asta steal her away.

I'll make sure she is always happy.

Recently, Mimosa learned to walk properly, and she always chases after me. And guess what? Her first word wasn't Mama or Papa—it was "Brother."

I've been teaching her how to speak since she was a baby, and I knew it would pay off.

She adores my magic. I often use it to entertain her, creating petal formations and tricks. It was during one of these play sessions that I discovered my illusion abilities.

---

Speaking of abilities , these are the Abilities i Developed So Far:

Petal Blades – I can sharpen my petals and shoot them at high speeds. My current practice focuses on improving my aim.

Petal Communication – I can leave a petal with Mimosa and communicate through it, like a telepathic link.

Petal Tornado – A whirlwind of petals that can be used defensively or offensively. Rather than cutting like a sword, my petals shred their target, reducing it to ribbons.

This gave me an idea.

In Murim stories, the Mount Hua Sect uses a cherry blossom sword technique that shreds enemies apart rather than cutting cleanly.

If I can combine swordsmanship with my magic, I can create a devastating combat style.

Which leads me to my next objective:

1. Learn swordsmanship.

2. Gain enough proficiency to form a sword out of petals.

If my theory is correct, a sword composed of my shredding petals would be utterly lethal.

And that's not all—I'm also experimenting with petal explosions, though it's still in the early stages

I've met Fuegoleon and Mereoleona a few times.

Fuegoleon is still young, so there wasn't much to think about.

But Mereoleona?

There is only one way to describe her

She's wild.

And insanely strong—stronger than even

my parents right now

So, obviously, I did the logical thing.

I asked her to train me.

She agreed.

Training with Mereoleona Vermillion will begin soon.

And I can't wait.
