Chapter 177: Jig is up
Ethan could feel the mana gathering in his body, centered in his lower abdomen. "This should be the mana core formation stage." Thanks to the lectures and his library research, this time, he was prepared and had the knowledge beforehand. It was just that his double class was adding some complexity to the process.
However, the explanation seemed very straightforward. He should be able to start the mana core formation process once both the classes hit level 50. This meant that he needed to up his dungeon grind for the summoner's class.
Ethan adjusted his schedule and continued with his training. Life was going somewhat peacefully.
He was fully accustomed to his Johnny persona. No one suspected anything, and no one bothered to bully him, considering he was a ranker who had actually passed the entrance tests. Courtesy of Sienna, who had spread the word among her friends, who in turn spread it around the campus.
Ethan did not mind. He was making steady progress, and his strength was increasing every single day. He had a place to learn, and he had a place for his minions to grow stronger, all the while maintaining a low profile and no additional trouble.
Life was going smoothly. At least, it was until he came face to face with someone he should not have. "You! You managed to get into the academy?" The fatty's face flushed with anger and shame as soon as he laid his eyes on Ethan.
"Look at you. You, fucking piece of shit! Commoner filth! You got a nice makeover. You are now wearing new academy robes, have a spatial ring, and are walking as if you own this place."
Ethan frowned but did not say anything. It was unfortunate that this encounter had to happen right in the middle of the cafeteria with many eyes watching him. "You are mistaking me for someone else." He quickly said, and walked away, but the fatty did not leave him be.
His underlings ran and blocked Ethan's path. To make matters worse, Sienna popped up in the cafeteria and immediately rushed over to him. "Hey, Damon, shut it. That's my boyfriend you are talking to. Johnny from the Vincent family."
"What family now?" Damon sneered, clearly not buying it.
Sienna's eyes narrowed. "You better watch it. The Vincents have many arch mages in their family. Watch what you are saying."
Right at that moment, another student stood up from some corner in the cafeteria and walked over. "I am Gerald Vincent of the Vincent family you are talking about. What seems to be the problem here?"
Ethan's face twitched. All of his carefully crafted lies were quickly unravelling right in front of him. Okay, who was he kidding? He just randomly said some things and went with it, and now his jig was up. Everything had come full circle to bite him in the ass. Hard.
Ethan turned slightly to get a good look at Gerald Vincent. The guy was tall, broad-shouldered, with platinum-blond hair tied in a loose knot behind his head, his expression the kind of cold composure that came from being born into power and never having to question it.
"Johnny Vincent, you say?" Gerald's eyes met Ethan's, cool and assessing. "Interesting. I don't remember any Johnny in our family tree."
"A different Vincent family." Ethan smiled, completely shameless despite how he was already exposed.
Gerald stared at him for a long second—long enough that the silence stretched uncomfortably across the cafeteria.
"A different Vincent family," he repeated, as if testing the weight of the lie. "Convenient."
Ethan gave a helpless shrug. "You know how it is. There are a lot of Vincents out there."
That earned a small chuckle from somewhere in the crowd, and Gerald's smirk deepened. "Is that so?"
"Now, if there is nothing else…" Ethan did not wait for anyone's response and silently turned around to leave. "Ah… fuck." He cursed his bad luck. He just knew that this was going to make his life a lot difficult.
And trouble came looking for him soon enough. Ethan went to the grand dungeon hall for his daily night dungeon grind when suddenly the fatty, Damon, and two of his lackeys blocked his path. "Sienna was right. You do come here every night."
Ethan raised a brow. "So what?"
Damon grinned in glee. "Nothing. Nothing much at all. Please feel free to do whatever you want."
Ethan narrowed his eyes. Damon's tone was off—too polite, too rehearsed, the grin on his face a little too wide to be harmless. Something was going on.
"Right…" Ethan replied slowly, his gaze flicking over the three of them. "And I'm sure you're just here to wish me luck."
"Oh, absolutely," Damon said with mock sincerity. "You continue with your dungeon run and we will with ours. Oh, you will be pleased to know that your little girlfriend Sienna is also with us. We all decided to do some training together tonight. You know, like the training you both do every night."
Ethan's gaze turned cold.
"Come on. It's not fair. You alone cannot hog such a hot body. We need to taste her too. How is she in bed? A total freak? I guess I will be finding out today." Revealing the ugliest grin, Damon gave him another look before starting to walk over to a Blue portal dungeon.
"Oh if you want to join the orgy, you are always welcome to join me." He whistled as he walked, stopping right in front of the dungeon portal. "What? In or out?"
Ethan silently gazed at him. He had seen bullying in the school before, but what was happening in front of him was on an entirely different level. He was shocked as to how these people could act so boldly within the academy campus. It looked like if you had money, you could really do whatever you want here.
"I said," Damon turned his head slightly, a grin still dancing on his lips, "in or out?"
