Chapter 29: Everything Everywhere All At Once
"Come on get those supplies, Captain wants a supply line into the maze, so hurry up unless you want to get burned alive!" One of the Mercenaries shouted to a group of three men as they walked down the rows of tents looting any supplies they could get their hands on. While they had their own, Mya had said it didn't make sense to use them when there was an entire camp ripe for the looting.
As the men looted the tents Joffrey remained hidden behind an overturned cart with a crossbow in his hand. The crossbow in his arms shook as he tried to push himself to stand; the sellswords had separated enough that Joffrey could take one of them out, but if he made a mistake then he'd get caught by the others and die. Joffrey steeled himself 'I won't be a coward for the rest of my life!' He thought to himself as he placed his crossbow on top of the overturned cart to steady his aim. While Joffrey wasn't much of a warrior he did enjoy using his crossbow back in King's landing —he would often use it against any pets that his siblings would get.
'Will anyone other than mother miss me?' Joffrey wondered to himself. The realisation that people hated him was tough on the young boy; to realise that he had no value other than being King. The fact it took on what he considered his enemies to show him the truth nagged him even more.
Joffrey lined up the shot at what he thought to be the leader of the small group of men. Closing one eye he aimed, drew in a breath, and fired.
*Thunk*
The bolt slammed straight through the man's eye socket and he fell to the ground with a large clanging sound from his armour. Joffrey immediately took off running between two tents before any of the other men came out, he'd need to reload another bolt and find another position. He planned on killing all of them apart from the last one which he'd only wound, then he could get some information about the location of his companions.

"I believe I can answer that question Daemon."
Jon turned around to see an old man with long white hair and one red eye, the other was just an empty socket with black pulsing veins surrounding it. His skin was dry and wrinkled and his hair thin and waxy, he wore clothing similar to what he had seen when he had visited Castle Black though they were tattered and the colour had faded slightly. "Who are you, and how do you know me," Jon asked with a suspicious gaze. He started to formulate theories in his mind about his current situation 'This must be a mirage or illusion of some kind, but it seems too real, did I ingest some type of poison or tincture from the man's bloodstream?'
He was standing in the line of sight of Brienne and Daenerys and yet they hadn't acknowledged him at all, but this man that Jon had never met before could see him. "I can imagine now you're thinking of different logical explanations for your current situation, to save you time I can tell you that there are none," The stranger said to him.
"Who are you!" Jon said a little more forcefully as he prepared for physical confrontation.
"You may call me Blood Raven, as for how I know you Daemon, I've watched you from the moment you were born, though I must admit even with my glimpses into the future I didn't expect you to be here," Blood Raven explained.
Jon furrowed his brow "Blood Raven? The bastard son of Aegon IV?"
"The very same, though I admit it has been quite a while since I've been referred to as that man's son," He said as he started to approach Jon. The young man stepped backwards as he did still wary of his intentions.
"You have nothing to worry about from me Daemon, I am here to offer you my help if you will take it," Blood Raven said.
"You expect me to believe you are who you say you are? Bloodraven disappeared over fifty years ago and if you were he you would be over a hundred years old," Jon stated as he narrowed his eyes at the man.
"A hundred and thirty but I stopped counting a while ago," Blood Raven commented.
"In truth Daemon I expected-"
"Stop calling me Daemon, that name has no meaning to me!" Jon interrupted.
"Names are powerful things Daemon, they can inflict happiness, anger, fear, lust. Do not so easily disregard the name your mother gave you," Blood Raven advised.
"Regardless, I am Jon Snow, I choose to take the name given to me by the man who sacrificed nearly everything to protect and raise me," Jon said firmly.
"Now enough games, tell me what is going on here, or is this all an elaborate illusion conjured by my mind," He continued.
"I assure you it is not an illusion, what you are seeing is very real," Blood Raven stated as he gestured to Brienne and Daenerys.
"Right now your mind has been flung out of your body due to the awakening of your blood," Blood Raven explained.
Jon found his annoyance growing at the man who claimed to be Blood Raven "Speak sense man, while I understand your worse they have no meaning," Jon replied.
"You are a Greenseer Jon, there is power in the blood, this is true of the Stark family in particular," Blood Raven explained more clearly.
Jon snickered "Greenseers are myths told by fathers to their children, if they did exist they are long gone from this world just as most magic has."
"For all your journeys over the last few years and everything you've seen I still find it amusing you remain sceptical of the higher mysteries," Blood Raven replied with a small smile on his face.
"You wield an axe that has given you a giant strength and the ability to conjure ice, you hunt a crow that supposedly gives you greater intelligence and after you hunt for an artefact that can restore the dead, and yet you tell me that Greenseers cannot possibly exist?" He continued.
"I ask you to hold your scepticism at bay and take a walk with me, let me see if I cannot convince you of the truth," Blood Raven requested.
"Very well..." Jon said cautiously. While he didn't believe Blood Raven, he wouldn't allow himself to be stubborn. Stubbornness is the death of progress —something he'd learnt at the citadel.
...
Jon and Blood Raven walked through the Water Gardens in silence. Jon looked around in awe as everything looked as he had remembered; his heart ached slightly as he saw Rhaella sitting by one of the pools with Val and Ygritte. He missed them a lot more than he could admit to himself, as doing so would only make the pain greater.
"Why can't I hear them speak?" Jon asked as he saw their lips moving but no sound coming out of their mouths.
"Your manner of becoming a Greenseer is unusual, to say the least, you need time before you can fully acclimate," Blood Raven explained.
"What do you mean it is unusual?" Jon asked.
Blood Raven looked at him as they walked "You were never supposed to become a Greenseer, the Stark Bloodline births a lot of wargs and greenseers due to your connection with the first men, you were only ever meant to be a warg," he stated.
Jon frowned "If that's the case then how am I a Greenseer?" He asked.
"I suspect it involves your axe 'Winter Weaver'. The connection you have with the Heart of Winter saturated your blood with magic, a few more years and you would've awakened your gifts naturally. The man's flesh that you feasted on was no ordinary man, he himself had awakened his third eye," Blood Raven explained.
"And Power is in Blood," Jon continued on for him getting a nod from Blood Raven.
"That doesn't explain why I'm here," Jon said.
For a moment Blood Raven didn't answer as he looked at the women soaking their feet in the pool. "I've watched you your entire life, you've always been a traveller, never wanting to settle for long in a single place, for your home is the people you are with and that is where your mind brought you when confronted with your dire situation," He explained.
Jon nodded slowly as Blood Raven's words rang true "In truth Jon I am glad that fate has given us this chance to speak," Blood Raven said as his tone grew serious.
"You must stop this foolish quest of yours, you must accept that Tyene Sand was killed by Robert Baratheon beyond the wall, you must accept she died and cannot come back," Blood Raven said bluntly.
Jon grits his teeth as he scowls at Blood Raven "I refuse, as long as there is a chance I will continue to search for a way, and if there is none then I shall join her wherever she has gone," Jon replies with absolute conviction.
"You are a foolish boy to believe that people can come back without a price to pay, there is always a price, better you understand it now than when the toll is exacted upon you!" Blood Raven snapped.
"You have no idea the danger you are currently in, your futile quest has led you to places a man should not tread," Blood Raven warned.
"A labyrinth is hardly dangerous, the only danger will be if I can't get out," Jon replied dismissively.
"Old Powers have begun to wake, you think it a coincidence that the Cult of Boash has resurfaced, heed my warning Jon Snow you are in danger, and if you continue this foolish quest you will die, if not now then when you enter the grey waste," Blood Raven warned.
Jon however was not listening at all, as soon as Blood Raven had mentioned Tyene the rational part of his mind turned off and was overpowered by his emotional side. His deep love for Tyene would lead him to any place in the world no matter the danger. "The Grey Waste is like any other place, while it may be more dangerous it is most likely exaggerated, why else would there be settlements and cities?" Jon asked logically.
"The Grey Waste is a foul place, the people who live there are not men such as you or I, they are soulless husks and should you ever see one do not linger," Blood Raven stated with a sour expression.
Before Jon could reply Blood Raven interrupted him "It gets worse, the further you travel into the Grey Waste the hotter it gets, it gets so hot that the sand turns to glass beneath your feet, once you get passed that you'll find yourself in a realm that defies understanding, a place of pure evil, a place that doesn't belong in our world," Blood Raven warned. The seriousness in his voice did send a chill up Jon's spine but he —with some difficulty— dismissed his words.
"Why do you care..." Jon finally asked. While he knew they were distantly related, they were not close enough to warrant such interference.
"There are wars to come, Jon Snow, wars that will need you," Blood Raven said as he grabbed Jon's arm. Jon felt like he was about to be sick as they were flung through the sky at speeds that he could not comprehend; he looked and saw they were travelling North, he saw sand turn to grass, grass turn to water, water turn to rock and then snow. In mere seconds he passed Winterfell and then over the wall; they kept going north, beyond the lands of always winter and straight to the heart of winter itself.
Jon was thrown to his knees as he peered directly into the heart of winter. "I-I-I... is this real?" Jon said as he looked up at Blood Raven.
"They've been beneath us this entire time and for thousands of years we knew nothing... the Long Night you knew was nothing but a scouting party, but they've waited and been patient and soon they will come," Blood Raven said as he looked on to the horror that lay before them.
"How can I do anything to... stop this," Jon said as tears started to fill his eyes. Tears of fear at what he saw, tears of sadness for his friends and tears of frustration and not knowing what to do.
"The wall was built with their magic, it can be undone, but it will give us time," Blood Raven stated.
"Take me back..." Jon said as he stood up; he refused to look at the horror in front of him any more.
"Even after seeing the true enemy, you will stay your course?" Blood Raven asked.
"Always..." Jon replied.
"Then I shall leave you with this warning, the Mazemakers dug too deep and too greedily, what they found scared them so much they built the Labyrinth to contain it, if you stay on your course you will find what you seek but you will find terror beyond imagining." Blood Raven grabbed Jon and they are in flight once again. Moments later Jon found himself back inside the maze, he looked down and could see his body sprawled across the floor; despite the darkness, he could see perfectly, though he dismissed it —he'd seen a lot of unexplainable things today, seeing in the dark would not phase him.
"When you return your mind will not be the same Jon Snow, your senses will be different, the mind of a Greenseer often exists in two places, and believe me when I tell you that you will be a powerful one," Blood Raven said before disappearing.
Jon stood there for a moment before approaching his body and touching it. He felt his vision darken and the familiar pains and aches of his real body return. Groaning he stood up against the wall and took a breath; his body was shaking, and what he had seen at the edge of the world had truly shaken him. It had taken everything he thought he knew and dashed it to the ground; It took all his will not to break down once again.
"Keep going..." He whispered to himself with a shaky voice. Jon walked onwards, one step after the other making turns and following long corridors until he finally realised something. He hadn't used the wall for support, nor had he walked into anything as he walked down the pitch-black corridors. He still couldn't see but he knew where he wanted to go and so it was as if his body was guiding him there.
'This is madness,' he thought to himself as he kept walking. His thoughts went back to the cultists that infested this maze. 'Is this how they all moved so well?' He wondered.
Jon was if anything adaptable, he would take advantage of this newfound ability and he would go and get the crown. Then once he's found it he will get his companions and they can leave this god's forsaken place. The warning from Blood Raven still rang through his mind, it scared him if he was being honest. He would love nothing more than to leave this place, but he needed this crown —if what Blood Raven said about the Grey Waste was true.
After Jon had bought Tyene back then he could think about what lay North and how he could get as far away from it as possible.
(AN: So Jon has become a Greenseer, I made some changes to ability to make it a bit more powerful. The cultists aren't Greenseers btw they have just awakened their third eye giving them minor clairvoyance. In Canon a lot of references are made to darkness and how darkness can awaken your third eye so I felt this was appropriate. Hope you enjoyed the chapter.
