Chapter 4: Sold
I can't tell how much time has passed since Dion said those words. The silence becomes stiffening and the more I try to compose myself, the more I struggle to grasp the reality.
He can't do that. He can't give me to that disgusting Alpha. I am his favorite––no one can have me. No one, but him.
So why did he say that?
The deafening ringing in my ears finally subsides and I can hear the conversation between Dion and his wife again.
"...give her to him? Don't make me laugh," Katarine smirks and her doubt makes me somewhat relieved. She knows it too, he will not do it.
"I am not trying to joke here, Kat," Dion's sharp voice cuts through the air and I feel my heart drop once again. He is being serious. "The agreement has been made. Layleen is leaving with him, first thing tomorrow."
I can't see Luna, but I can tell without looking that she is gloating. Their conversation continues, but I can no longer hear anything. My heartbeat is drumming in my ears and the bitter bile is rushing up my throat, threatening to spill from my mouth.
I try to stay quiet, but at the same time, I desperately want to leave. So just like that, I wait for them to finish, and the moment I hear the door knob turn from the other side, I gasp and dash down using the hidden path Dion has made for me.
I was sold, traded like a piece of meat. I have become too comfortable next to Alpha Dion, I thought my life was worth something. Apparently, it was worth selling me to that abominable Alpha Robert and becoming a miserable addition to his harem.
I can't think straight. I run for what seems like an eternity, stumbling and banging my shoulders on the walls of the narrow passage that leads directly to my room. I choke on my own breath, hot tears burn my eyes like acid.
At last, I hit my head on the hidden door to my room and turn the doorknob, dashing inside as if someone is chasing me. As I find myself in my personal little sanctuary, I finally manage to breathe out, though my lungs are still burning with every little gasp.
My thoughts are tangled, my head is spinning so much, I can feel the walls rotate around me. I need to calm down.
I lie down on my bed, my eyes shut tightly, but even the inside of my head seems to be spinning, the darkness under my eyelids soaking me, sucking my mind into its sickening whirlwind.
I take a series of deep breaths and desperately cling to that little distraction this action brings me, but the moment I feel like I have finally begun to feel better, the front door of my room slams so loudly and suddenly, that every muscle in my weak body flinches, flinging me to the floor.
I don't fall––someone grabs me by my limbs and turns me over. My face hits my pillow and before I can come to my senses, a familiar female voice hisses into my left ear, "Did you really think that little trick of yours could conceal your disgusting stench, you little whore?"
Katarine's sharp claws sink into my silver hair, gripping it by the roots. The burning pain of her strong pull forces a scream out of me, but it gets muffled as she pushes my face into the pillow, my voice drowning in its plush softness.
She knew I was there; she knew I was listening. And yet, she let me stay until the end. Because once Dion said that he had sold me to Alpha Robert, Katarine wanted me to hear him say that it was not a mistake.
"You stupid bitch," she sizzles over me again, each word practically dripping with venom. "Eavesdropping while your Alpha and Luna are having a private conversation, huh? Do you know what I can do to you for that?"
Her voice softens a little as she knows that in truth, she can do nothing but threaten me. Dion will never let her publicly accuse or punish me, but if he never finds out...
That is when I finally become aware that there is someone else in my room aside from her. I know it's him, the suffocating stench of his pheromones mixed with lust seep straight into my lungs as soon as the fog in my head clears and lets me think.
Mateo, Katarine's beta, is holding my arms behind my back while his strong thighs are wrapped around my knees, holding me in a deadly trap.
I swallow hard because I know what it means.
"Fuking whore," Katarine speaks again, her grip on my hair tightens, forcing tears from under my closed eyelids. I want to scream from pain but I know that it will only make it worse. "Just because Dion allows you to do whatever you want because you spread your legs for him doesn't mean this will work with others... Well, I guess that might not be so true."
She smirks and I know exactly why. Alpha Robert. He asked for me in return for his help because he wanted yet another whore to fuck. And that is who Katarine thinks I am. Just a whore whose legs never close.
Suddenly, Katarine's scent grows even stronger––the evil excitement surging in her body forces her wolf to step out even more, crushing me with its threatening presence.
"Even though you're leaving tomorrow, I can't really let you go without one last warning, Layleen."
She finally removes her hand from my hair, and a brief sigh of relief escapes my lips as the painful tugging stops. Then, she chuckles and starts walking towards the door. "Mateo," she says as she turns the doorknob, "show this bitch where her place is. That place," I know she's looking at me as she finishes, "is on a man's cock."
With that, Katarine leaves, the door thuds behind her back in an ominous sound.
"You heard your Luna," Mateo chuckles menacingly, his free hand unzipping his pants. "Now let me teach you one last lesson."
