Part 1: Ethan's Silent Battles

Ethan sat alone in his dimly lit apartment, his fingers hovering over the keyboard. The blinking cursor on the screen mocked him, a constant reminder of his failures. His latest manuscript sat unfinished, just like the others.

Sophia's name still lingered in his inbox—the email that had changed everything.

"Mr. Carter, we recently came across your work through a recommendation. We'd love to discuss a possible book deal."

The publisher's interest should have thrilled him, but all he could think about was who had recommended him. Sophia Moreau.

After years of silence, she had reappeared, her influence still powerful enough to open doors for him.

But at what cost?

Clara's words haunted him: "I need to know if I still matter to you."

He had lost her once—was he about to lose her again?

---

Part 2: Clara's Own Crossroads

Meanwhile, Clara sat in her office, staring at the contract for her Paris opportunity. The papers felt heavier than they should have, as if they carried the weight of her future.

Six months. Maybe a year.

The dream job she had worked for was finally in reach.

But was it worth losing Ethan?

Their last argument replayed in her mind. His hesitation, his inability to say yes to her leaving—it had broken something between them.

A knock on the door startled her.

It was Daniel, her boss.

"Clara," he said with a smile, "we need your answer by tomorrow. Paris is waiting for you."

She forced a smile, but inside, she was drowning.

Would Ethan ask her to stay?

Would she even listen if he did?

Part 3: An Unfinished Conversation

That evening, Ethan stood outside Clara's apartment, debating whether to knock.

After a long breath, he finally did.

She opened the door, her expression unreadable.

"Ethan," she said softly.

"I—" He hesitated. What was he even going to say?

Clara crossed her arms. "Did you come to say goodbye?"

His stomach twisted. "No… I came because I don't want to lose you."

Clara's eyes softened for a moment, but then she shook her head. "Ethan, I've been waiting for you to fight for me. To tell me you want me to stay. But you never did."

"I didn't want to hold you back," he admitted. "But I also didn't want you to leave."

"Then what do you want?" she asked, her voice breaking.

Ethan clenched his jaw. "I want us to work. I want—" He exhaled sharply. "I don't know how to fix this, Clara. I just know I don't want to lose you."

Tears welled in her eyes, but she stayed silent.

After a long pause, she finally whispered, "I leave in a week."

Ethan's heart sank.

A week.

Was this the end?

Part 4: A Call from the Past

That night, as Ethan sat in his apartment, his phone rang.

An unknown number.

His hands trembled as he picked up.

"Hello?"

A familiar voice filled the line.

"Ethan," Sophia said softly.

His breath caught. It was really her.

"I wasn't sure if you'd answer," she admitted.

He swallowed hard. "I almost didn't."

There was a pause before she said, "I saw your work. It's… breathtaking."

Ethan's emotions tangled—anger, nostalgia, longing. "Why did you recommend me?"

She hesitated. "Because I believe in you. Because I know how much this means to you."

"You don't get to act like you still know me, Sophia," he said coldly. "You disappeared. You left me with nothing."

Her voice faltered. "I know. And I regret it more than you'll ever know."

"Then why now?" he asked, his voice sharp.

"Because I still care," she admitted.

Ethan closed his eyes. Too little, too late.

Or was it?

Part 5: Clara's Decision

The night before her flight, Clara sat on her bed, staring at her packed suitcase.

She had expected Ethan to come one last time.

But the knock on her door never came.

Tears streamed down her face as she whispered, "I waited for you, Ethan."

But he never came.

With a heavy heart, she grabbed her bags.

It was time to go.

---

Part 6: Ethan's Breaking Point

The morning after Clara's departure, Ethan sat at his desk, staring at his empty phone screen.

No messages. No calls.

She was gone.

His chest tightened, regret suffocating him.

Then, without thinking, he grabbed his laptop and started writing.

Page after page. Everything.

His love for Clara. His heartbreak over Sophia. His failures. His regrets.

For hours, he wrote until his hands ached.

This wasn't just a novel.

It was his truth.

Final Scene: A Choice to Make

That evening, Ethan received an email from the publisher.

"We love your work. Let's discuss the next steps."

It was the break he had been waiting for.

But at what cost?

As he sat in his silent apartment, he realized something.

No matter how many books he wrote, no matter how much success he achieved…

He had lost the one person who truly saw him.

And this time, he wasn't sure if he could ever get her back.
