Love In The Line Of Fire

Chapter 12: Chapter 11

ANYA POINT OF VIEW

The last thing I remember is that I got drunk last night. I hope I didn't do anything foolish. I went out, and this isn't the mansion I saw last night. But this one is beautiful too, and it looks like it cost millions.

"Good morning, Ma'am Anya." I was surprised when one of the maids here suddenly bowed to me.

"Where am I?"

"You're in the second home of the Carters. This is the property of your fiancé, Oliver." I smiled wryly when she said that.

"What does he look like?" I couldn't help but ask, and she gave me a meaningful look.

"You can decide that for yourself once you see him."

I went downstairs to the dining area to eat. I was the only one there, aside from the other maids. After I finished eating, I decided to take a walk around. The surroundings were beautiful, not quite like Estrella Village, but it had its own charm. I even caught up with one of the gardeners watering the plants.

"Good morning, Ma'am Anya," he greeted me, so I greeted him too with a smile. It reminded me of the plants back home.

Once I saw Oliver's face, I'll leave here to go to my grandfather's house and water the plants and flower.

"Ma'am Anya, Sir Oliver is arriving and he wants you to welcome him." It was the same woman who greeted me earlier when I woke up. I followed her to the front door of the house.

This Oliver is really something, wanting a grand welcome. But I guess it's better this way, so I can finally see what he looks like. The other staff members are here too, lined up like they're waiting for royalty. It's as if Oliver is a Kiing or Prince. I can tell they're all trying to butter him up as soon as he arrives.

Even from a distance, I could hear the sound of his approaching vehicle. I stood up straight to get a good look at the face of the old man I'm supposed to marry.

I swallowed hard, and everything seemed to slow down as he walked towards me. Everyone bowed to him, and I was left standing there like a statue.

He's not old, unlike what I had imagined. He's none other than Christian, but he looks completely different now. If you don't take a closer look, you wouldn't think he's the same guy I met at Estrilla Village.

My heart was racing as he stopped in front of me. I saw his ash-gray eyes, which made me feel even more flustered. And when he smiled at me, my legs almost gave out. I also remembered why he looked familiar to me. He's the guy I kissed at the club, I bit my lower lip as I recalled that embarrassing moment. I hope he doesn't remember me, though. It would be embarrassing if he did.

"Don't bite your lips, or I'll bite them too." He whispered this to me, making my knees feel even weaker. I almost lost my balance, but luckily, he caught me by the waist. "Be careful," he said, letting me go, and I adjusted my stance.

After that, he went upstairs, and I just watched him as he walked away. He really looks so different from when he was in Estrella Village. He was handsome back then, but he dressed simply and had longer hair. Now, he has a new haircut that adds to his appeal. But looking at him now, he seems like a distant dream, hard to reach, even though he's my fiancé. Plus, he has this dark aura that I just can't figure out.

I decided to help with the household chores instead, so I wouldn't get bored.

"Ma'am Anya, we'll take care of this. Sir might get mad." I intervened because I wanted to wash the dishes since I was the one who ate.

"It's okay, and besides, I'm the one who ate it."

"But Ma'am, Sir might scold us if he sees you washing dishes."

"Don't worry, I'll take care of it. You won't get in trouble." I said, even though I'm not sure if I can really talk to Oliver. It's okay to help out, and he won't see me anyway. And who does he think he is?!

"You're so kind, Ma'am Anya."

"Don't call me Ma'am, just Anya. I'm not used to being called that. What's your name, by the way?"

"I'm Glaiza, po."

"How long have you been working here?"

"Yes, po, I've been working here for three years now, and they've been supporting my education."

"They're supporting your education?" She nodded slowly, and it seems Grandfather was right that the Carters are indeed kind-hearted.

"Sir is just a bit cold, but he's kind, and he's the one who—"

"Glaiza!" Oliver's arrival cut her off, and his glare at the girl was unsettling. His tone alone conveyed a warning, causing Glaiza to bow her head.

"If it's about the dishes, I was the one who—"

"Not interested!" He stopped me, which annoyed me.

This guy's attitude is really something! But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since he was already like that back in Estrella Village. I wanted to follow him and confront him, but when I saw how busy he was, I decided not to.

He was wearing formal attire, like he was about to attend a party. I wonder where he's headed? I wanted to ask, but I kept my mouth shut.

He noticed I was behind him and turned to look at me. His gaze is different now - it's so cold that it's giving me chills. It's as if I've committed some huge mistakes. After that cold stare, he didn't even bother to look at me again.

He just left without saying where he was going or even saying goodbye to me. I don't know what's wrong with me, but his gaze hurt me, like he didn't care about me at all. But I don't care about him either, so why am I feeling this way? Who am I, anyway? We're just fiancés by arrangements of our parents, and we're not even close. So why am I feeling this way?
