Chapter 14: Chapter 13
ANYA POINT OF VIEW
I frowned when Austine didn't drop me off at Oliver's house. Instead, we went to a different house, and it was clear that the owner was wealthy. This house was even bigger, and there were security guards at the gate. Austine showed his ID before we could enter.
I felt uneasy; was this the Carter's mansion? Austine opened the door for me when we arrived at the parking area. Some maids greeted us and escorted me to where I was supposed to go. I looked up at the massive chandelier that caught my attention. It seemed like this was where the party was, the one where I woke up wearing a gown.
"I'll leave you now, Ma'am Anya," Austine said goodbye, making me feel anxious since I didn't know anyone else.
The house was vast, and I was still near the entrance. I turned around when I heard the sound of footsteps.
A woman was approaching me. Her face showed a hint of arrogance, with her eyebrow raised at me. Her clothes were elegant, and her walk was like a model's, especially since she is already tall, and her high heels added more to her height.
"So, you're Anya?" she looked at me as if judging me.
"Hi Anya," I turned to look at another woman approaching. She wore a simple yet elegant dress. I guessed she was in her early 40s, and she looked like she could be related to the other woman. Maybe they were sisters or mother and daughter.
"I'm Samantha, Oliver's mother," she said, and I was almost left speechless.
It wasn't obvious that she had a child, especially since she and Oliver don't look alike. But as far as I know, Oliver is an adopted son. That's probably why they don't resemble each other.
"Like, duh! Mom, that guy is not your son," the other woman said, rolling her eyes.
"Sapphire, he's your brother! Sorry, Anya. This is Sapphire, my daughter."
Sapphire didn't even bother to look at me, just glared and walked away.
"Nice to meet you," I replied, feeling embarrassed, to Oliver's mom.
"Don't mind Sapphire, that's just how she is. Especially since she's such a spoiled brat," she said.
"It's okay," I replied.
"You'll stay here for now, Oliver isn't around, he's abroad," she said.
What? He's abroad?
"It was sudden, he had to attend to some business. Our company had some problems abroad, so he had to leave the country," she explained.
I was taken aback.
"Jezzel, please prepare food for Anya and show her to her room afterwards," she instructed one of the maids.
"I'll leave you now, Anya," she said goodbye to me.
I just nodded at Oliver's mom. One of the maids approached me and showed me where the dining area was. I didn't have any appetite while eating. The house felt lifeless, and I didn't know anyone to talk to.
After finishing my meal, I headed to my room. But while I was still in the hallway, I ran into Sapphire. This mansion is huge, but we still managed to bump into each other. She stopped in front of me, clearly showing that she didn't like me being here.
"What could Daddy be thinking, and why did he choose you to be Oliver's fiancée? Look at you, you're just like trash!" I clenched my fist at what she said. I restrained myself from reacting, especially since I'm new here.
"Besides, Oliver is just a spare in this family anyway," she added, before bumping into me as she walked away. I ignore what she said and continued walking and entered my room.
My room is huge, and the bed is massive. From here, I can see the swimming pool and fountain outside. My room also has a balcony, so I decided to hang out there for a bit.
The surroundings were chilly, especially since midnight was approaching. I sat down on the sofa here and gazed up at the sky. The view was beautiful, and the full moon was visible. I felt like I was in a movie, like a vampire, werewolf, or fantasy world.
"What the heck, bro!" My attention shifted to the balcony next door. It was from the room closest to mine. A guy came out, and it seemed like he was on a phone call. He noticed someone was looking at him, so he turned his gaze towards me.
"I'll hang up, bro," he said before ending the call.
"So, you must be Anya, right?" he asked me.
I didn't respond to him.
"I know that I'm handsome and that any girl can be speechless because of my handsomeness." I couldn't help but smile at what he was saying.
"You're crazy," I replied, feeling embarrassed.
I was about to leave when he spoke up again. "Hey! Talk to me, it's boring here." His tone was obvious, trying to get my attention.
I turned to face him, "You can handle it, you're grown up, right?" I replied, laughing.
"You're just like your future husband," he said, frowning.
I ignored him and went inside. I lay down on the bed and reached for my phone on the side table to check the time. It was almost 1 am, and that's when I noticed I had new messages that I hadn't read earlier.
"Have you eaten?"
"There was an emergency earlier, hope you understand."
"Why didn't you reply? It's me, Oliver."
"Are you okay? You can call me if Sapphire starts a fight with you; I'll teach her a lesson."
"Damn, why aren't you responding?"
I frowned when I saw his messages. They were from earlier, around 8 pm. I hadn't bothered to check my phone earlier, and I didn't expect him to text me.
"I'm okay, goodnight," I replied to him.
I was about to sleep when my phone rang again.
"Why are you still awake?"
"Because I'm not asleep yet," I replied.
"Tsk, go to sleep already. Goodnight, Anya."
I didn't bother to reply to him again, especially since I was already feeling sleepy.
