Chapter 4: A First for Everything
"Subject #10060 appears to be an initial success and accepting the mana circuits without any drawbacks so far," I said as I jotted down in my notes as I circled a young-looking human body with dark blond hair that initially appeared to be between the ages of 14 and 16.
They floated aimlessly in the green fluid as the tubes fed them the proper nutrients needed to continue to function and hopefully exist for as long as needed. They were a bit more developed as well, having what amounted to essentially a second nervous system implanted in their body as I couldn't just create a soul nor grab one out of their air both because I didn't have the knowledge and that I didn't know what effects that could bring.
Nonetheless, I was surprised by the fact the body grew what amounted to a full secondary nervous system. What effects that could bring whether positive or negative was waiting to be seen as I would try to implement this on a living creature perhaps a humanoid chimera once I got around to fully making one. It wasn't like I hadn't begun the process, in fact, I had stitched up a three-headed Doberman on a large bulldog's body combined with cow legs.
Much more horrifying to look at than anything else but they were such a good guard dog to the occasional home invaders who thought I was an easy target. Well, it gave me plenty of materials to work with in the long run as I put the corpses on ice. Honestly, though I wasn't listening to everything I had stitched together for my first chimera, including the venom sac/fangs as well the general mechanisms/organs of a black mamba.
All thanks to the black market that was not as hard to find as most people would assume but I digress. My little Doug made an excellent guard animal including against the more unruly chimera that rampaged a little. I did modify them a bit each time I made an improvement upon the existing designs which so far wasn't much, I mean I really wanted to get my hands on the corpse of a stray devil. Slice up their body a bit, try to extract whatever chess piece mutated them in the first place if I could.
Although that would be more soul-based if I had to make a guess, something that changed the being who it was reincarnated into a devil. Both on the physical level with the added wings and the magical/soul level with demonic power added and their desires become more prevalent than before. That and the fact they wouldn't go to hell or any other afterlife for that matter, considering they were well devils now.
Although I think they were still reincarnated seeing as the only way you could stop such a thing is either through the transference of the soul or the destruction of it. Something to make not of later once I got a bit more experience in that department, but anyway I began to empty the tank of my newest completed subject and detached the tubes one by one.
I gently placed their body on a stretcher and rolled them over, checking everywhere for outside rot as I made my way to the operating room. Once I was all good in that department, I grabbed my scalpel and gently sliced them open to reveal their insides. Right now I would check the inside to see if I had finally solved that heart-rotting problem. So I gently sliced up the organs placing them in separate containers as I did so until I got to the heart.
I got it out and examined every bit of it as I put on my goggles specialized to look for any unseen rot or magical rot in some cases. A nifty little mystic code I made during my downtime that I thought would be a useful tool. Something based on the various types of microscopes I encountered throughout my lives.
Seeing no sign of visible rot, I put it away and began to reattach the organs one by one, repairing the bones I broke in the process. I needed the meatbag in one piece after all if I wanted to examine the mana circuits. I did try to examine them afterwards before but well I liked my lab and my face in one piece, with it being a long process to remake afterward.
Especially when dealing with the excess mana that had essentially turned into poison and would've killed me if I hadn't gotten rid of it. Oh well, I learned how to nip that problem in the bud before my next homunculus. A spell circle that I had inscribed on the surgical table to fully reattach the organs/body together.
Once it was all done and the mana circuits were up and running again I sliced open the outer skin of the homunculus where it all was. Giving me plenty of time to thoroughly examine the circuits and see if anything was malfunctioning. So far nothing of the sort, and once I had completed my inspection I stitched them back up letting the ambient mana in the air work its magic once more.
Rolling them back over to the tube, I had the biggest grin on my face as I finally succeeded, I had created a perfect human battery. Something that would be able to fuel my future experiments and would hopefully be transferable to other beings in the future. At least the humanoid beings as perhaps it would be necessary to experiment on other animals in the future, well chimeras at least.
Well, this guy was my last test subject before my shipment of ingredients which will not be the last as you know what time it is. Mass production time and it also meant I had to actually go out into the world once more and find a magician's market. Well, I had a few spells I wanted to test on myself to give me an extra boost like...reinforcement one of the most difficult spells I learned during my time in my previous world.
A nice little spell that made it far tougher to kill me than it normally would alongside a tracking spell I found whilst in this world. Yes I mean found as I struggled a magician who noticed my experiments and sought to try and blackmail me. His corpse is currently held in what was essentially a subbasement.
Oh well, today was just a first for everything.
